You might have to look at the players because his offense in Oakland was very good.

I always liked Chucky...you want emotion, he's got it by the truckload. However, he's never really done much outside of his Super Bowl run, and I think Ryan deserves as much of a shot as Gruden.

Bring him in, and see how he does, but don't make him the front runner.

is it a coincidence that the Raiders actually got better the first year without him? granted, the Bucs did too, but they also never came close again to playing at that level.

Is it a given that they'll promote Morris from within? I wonder if they would look at Spagnuolo or Ryan?

I suppose Spagnuolo is a possibility for TB. But the thing is Gruden is not the only one fired. GM Bruce Allen also got the heave-ho.

The new general manager could simply elevate Raheem Morris from defensive coordinator to head coach.

Or maybe the Buccaneers would hire Mike Shanahan and give him total control.

As for the first part of your post, it's not a big deal. Hell, it wouldn't have been a deal at all if the thread starter put a Jets spin on it in the title. As it stands, it's a small deal.

Um, what? That's one more Superbowl run than we've had in the past 4 decades. Plus, he build the Raiders team that he ended up beating as well.

I ain't saying he's Chuck Knoll, but give him more credit than that...

Belicheck has never had problems with players like Gruden has. Keyshawn, McCardell. He has a healthy Galloway sitting on the bench this year because he doesnt like him. He benched Garcia earlier for no reason. Gruden is not what this franchise needs.

I'd rater have Ryan at this point. Staying with a 34 coach is an easier transition. I'm not sold on Gruden to boot.

that still doesn't change the fact that he hasn't done much since that Super Bowl run. hence, why that qualification was made.

If I had to bet, I'd say that Gruden would take a year off to see how Charlie Weis does next year. If Charlie takes the pipe after 2009, Gruden would shoot to the top of the Notre Dame interview list.

The Bucs were not the only team who had problems with Johnson.

Good point on Garcia, I guess. I don't know the whole story with that and I don't know if anybody outside the team knows the whole story.

    McCardell- who gives a shit?

If Galloway was really healthy, then it makes no sense that he didn't play.

damn dude, what are you the ganggreen police. who cares what forum it's in. He's asking if JETS FANS would be interested in acquiring Gruden as a coach for our vacant coaching position. chill the fuck out.

As for the question, I am huge fan of Ryan, however, we would be remiss if we didn't even consider Gruden. He's a proven winner and a hell of a head coach. Like most things, I believe everybody and everything has a shelf life, and Gruden's time has come in Tampa. His fiery attitude and passion would definitely be a welcomed change.

At HC? Hell no. OC? Different thing entirely, though our receivers aren't fast enough to run the comebacks, deep ins, and go's that Gruden loves so much. We do have Keller, though, which would make the ole' Sluggo-Seam route combination deadly. I <3 West Coast offenses.
