The more important question is: why 5 LT's and no RT's? That's just asinine. They don't put 5 Tailbacks and no Fullbacks on the pro-bowl roster, why do they do this really stupid thing with the tackles?
good post...just became a member, but i was at the draft when we drafted dbrick, and i was pretty happy about the pic as i think every jet fan was at that point. its good to see he's finally progressing
Some more stats. Brick had 2 false starts and 1 holding penalty. Faneca had 3 false starts and 0 holding penalties Moore had 2 false starts and 2 holding penalties Mangold had 1 false start and 2 holding penalties Woody had 4 false starts and 1 holding penalty
First you can't just rely on Stats , they do not account for pressures, tipped passes, Qb holding to long, WR who cannot get open etc. The knock on B'rick is his run blocking ability so no surprise he is middle of the pack for pass protection. Woody was abysmal pass blocking all year and we all knew it but was a stud all year in run blocking As far a Moore goes your RG should be the lowest, interior lineman don't face the same pass rushers as the Tackles, Teams want to pressure form the back side (left for most RH QB's), and most DL when rush and do spin moves naturally spin to their right into Mangold rather than LG 's opponet who spins toward the LT who already has his hands full. Without a doubt Faneca did not have his best season but he is still without a doubt our 2nd best on the OL. Mangold is a stud.
i knew faneca was overrated. the jets' O-line as a whole is much worse at pass-blocking than they are at run-blocking but faneca might have the biggest disparity there
i swore he was a 3rd rounder? then who am i thinking of??... EDIT: I am thinking of Adrain Jones, and he was a 4th rounder.. my bad
Faneca isnt overrated I would say, he did alot of work helping Brick on that left side, yea hes gonna give up some sacks, but i Faneca was brought in to help these guys protect the QB better and for run blocking which Faneca excells in, another season with these guys well another HEALTHY one and these guys can only get better
Brick, Mangold and Moore can get better. Faneca and Woody will probably get worse. I'd like to see us start preparing their replacements for the future. If we wait until it's a dire need, we'll have another season like 2005.
Moore was a defensive lineman in college making the transition even better. Good job Moore. Faneca can improve as well.
Of the LT's that started all 16 games, D'Brick is 5th in sacks allowed. To be fair this should be broken down by sacks allowed per pass play. I don't have that data, but here's the per/game breakdown. No matter how you slice it Ryan Clady dominated as a pass blocker based on stats this season. No one is even close.
Just curious, how is the stat of "tackles allowed" quantified? Is it based on the guy that he's lined up against at the start of the play or is it based on who he actually ends up blocking on the play (for example something like a stunt where two guys on D end up switching places during the play)? And is a half sack given when a defender gets through a double team so both blockers are accountable, or is it when a guy on O lets through one of two defenders who share a sack on the QB? Or both? Another question - do they happen to keep this stat for RBs (picking up blitzes)?
That tells me that Woody and Faneca should have had a couple more holding penalties. Guessing they weren't fond of Burt Ferve.
