Thanks for the replies GD. I'm coming around to that conclusion. I have been keeping an eye out for some deals lately anyway so maybe it is time. I talked to one of our IT folks here at the school and they offered to take a look at it for me, and said they could recover my data on my hard drive for me. I think I'm gonna take them up on the offer.

Every time I open espn.com in firefox I get this message:

Bad Request (Request Header Too Long)

The only thing that gets rid of it is if I clear the cookies every time. Anybody eve had this problem and knows how to fix it.

Instead of starting a new thread, this seemed like a good place to ask a computer question (warning: this question is extremely trivial).

I just bought a new monitor so I now I have two monitors hooked up to my computer. One is wide screen and the other is the old square kind. So it's hard to get a background set without it looking weird. Ideally, I'd like one continuous background but that seems impossible. Can I have different backgrounds on each screen? If so, how? If not, what's a good solution?

    Thanks in advance.

If not already updated, update firefox to its newest version. If that doesn't work uninstall and reinstall it. Now if that doesn't, I will guide you though a way to repair it through the registry. let me know how it goes!

I don't really understand your question. Are you using both monitors at the same time? Like one monitor is for the left side of your desktop while one is for the right? Or are you using them interchangeably and want a consistent background?

Hey, Thanks for the advice but none of that worked. I was wondering if you could help me with the repair through the registry. Thanks.

Ok, question...I have a trojan on my computer. I found the file, but when I try to delete it is says that access is denied. What can I do to get this file gone? I have McAfee paid suscribition, but I this virus is really killing me.

Do you have a clean image of your HD? If not, bring up your OS in safe mode and then run McAfee. If not, I would download hijackthis and see what else you may have picked up along the way. Go to www.filehippo.com and check out their assortment of apps. You'll find Hijackthis there.

I would consider a different client after your McAfee subscription runs out. I use NIS (Norton Internet Security) and Norton has made it resource friendly and Vista ready. It got the kickass award from MaximumPC as well..

Once you get cleaned up, always do a periodic image of your HD. Perhaps once every two weeks if you have the storage to pull it off.

Ok so, I ran McAfee through safe mode and the trojan came up in there, the location of the file is C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlJDUOii.dll. I'm pretty bad with this whole virus thing so I really have no idea what to do next.

Good Job! Now that you've found the scoundrel, its time to send it to the boneyard. I would first attempt to delete it thru McAfee in safe mode. If it comes up "access denied", I would try to delete it directly. If that doesn't work either, download "highjack this" and that dll file should come up. You'll be able to delete it from there. While there, also download CCcleaner. Its a free app that will keep your HD straight. It also has a pretty thorough uninstaller loaded in the app.

Once done, go to your control panel. If you're running Vista, go to "programs" and to your uninstaller. Go thru the list and see what programs you don't remember loading and delete them one by one.

You never know what got stuck on the bottom of your cybershoes..

Very sound advice from Cman... it's spot on. Your virus protection should be able to delete any corrupeted file in safemode.

The only thing is that it's hijackthis not highjackthis if you couldn't find it

So I downloaded HiJackthis and I think the file i want to delete wasnt one of the files scanned so there is no option to delete it. It gave me this long log list of stuff and I'm not really sure what I'm looking at here.
