i am 100% in favor of the jets upgrading their uniforms. i want to see something fresh and aggressive, the jets classical look seems weak to me. i want to see something along the lines of the new cardinals uniforms, with a different logo, numbering font, jets across the chest or something.

I just don't agree with the bolded. No tangible action changes luck. That's why it's called LUCK - it's not something one should hope to control or predict with any accuracy - More importantly, it's statistically random.

Also, winning and losing has NOTHING to do with amorphously generic, intangible, and practically indefinable terms like "identity", "legacy", and/or "atmosphere". Winning football games is the product of hard work, talent, motivation, intelligence, resiliency, perseverance, and good coaching.

Its hard to argue with the results Slim. Denver, New England, Seattle, St. Louis, The Giants, Philly, Tampa Bay. They've all had great success since updating their uniforms. While I'm not saying that their success is a direct result of a uniform changeout, every team I've mention has been to a SB since the Jets moved to Jersey.

This team really needs to change Slim. I'm saying keep the colors but change out the design. This present uniform isn't so much a nod to Namath's Jets as it is to decades of frustration.

Parcells idea was to link the team to its glory years. Now its only a painful reminder.

I'm all for a change in uniform, except for two things. I'd have to buy a new jersey, and this site name wouldn't make sense any more. What's "Gang Green" without the green? Now changing the name of the site would be a big deal in itself.

i would love to have new unis as ive brought up the topic before a couple years back
    http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=6529

Not that the jerseys look bad cause they dont i just know that psychologically it can provide some sort of a boost.Look good, play good it can be as simple as that, besides the jerseys are old and they boost revenue which isnt bad for business.
Color wise the colors should never change Kelly green and white but our secondary color should be used sort of like the way Baltimore uses black except we should keep the white helmets.

I'm not arguing with the results. I'm arguing with the notion that there is any logical connection, whatsoever, between changing a team's uniform and improving that team's performance on the field. Put in a statistically relevant manner: Correlation does NOT imply causation. If there were 100 more teams who changed their uniforms and saw immediate improvement in their play, you'd still have to come up with a logical, tangible REASON why changing a team's uniform CAUSES an improvement in a teams' play - you need this logical connection to PROVE CAUSATION (or EVEN impy it) and make your idea meaningful. By the way, statisticians have a name for the phenomenon you reffered to regarding the handful of teams who all changed their uniforms and who all experienced improved play shortly after doing so: A COINCIDENCE.

This is silly. Every NFL team changes its uniform from time to time. You're picking a handful of examples and saying, "see? It works every time!"

Even looking at your list...the Rams changed their color scheme and the design of the horns multiple times in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The result? Sometimes they were good, sometimes they were bad. Right now they are one of the worst teams in football. Maybe they should go back to the Bob Waterfield/Norm Van Brocklin unis?

The Giants (like the Jets) switched back to their 1960s uniforms, slightly modified. They won Super Bowl XXV with "GIANTS" on the side of their helmets, the same ones they were wearing when the Pisarcik fumble happened. Somehow, all that bad karma didn't keep Norwood's kick from going wide right.

New England's uniforms, old and new, are hideous. Their fortunes changed because they got a good owner and a great coach (and then another one). That's what the Jets need.

Get these photoshop mother f*ckers to start designing some new uniform ideas and post them on here. Maybe use the Oregon unis as a basis.

*NOTE* I like our uniforms, I hate the Titans ones though.

  10. They can always keep the traditional "old school" look as a third alternate jersey. I'd like to see an updated look...by no means getting rid of the base colors...but something alittle more organized that might suggest a new mentality.

I've always liked the 80's style logo w/ the hunter green(before they went to the hideous Kelly)...perhaps modernize that concept and add in some faded silver..specifically to the helmets. Just an idea.

Leave the uni's alone. The Jets have one of the most classy uniforms in the league. Keep the tradition of other great franchises.....Yankees, Dodgers, Braves, Steelers, Giants, 49er's, Chargers...etc.

Fact is, those franchises DID change. They did not stay stagnant. If every NFL team changes its unis from time to time, when exactly would be a good time for the Jets to change theirs?

A better question would be, why KEEP the old unis? Legacy? Some imagined link to Namath's Jets? I asked this question earlier in this thread. Where the link to the '69 Jets besides the name recognition? This team doesn't practice on Long Island anymore nor does it play in New York State anymore. The Giants had a link to their glory years. The Giants actually HAVE glory years. We don't have either..

Its time to move on and let the past go. Keep the colors but change and modernize the design of unis. That would keep some link to the New York Jets of Flushing,NY but would also reflect the new reality of the here and now.

And exactly what do the New York Jets have in common with ANY of the franchises you mentioned? We have 1969 and that's it. These other franchises have decades of success to hang their hats on. What do WE have?

One SB is enough to keep a franchise mired in the past? Damn, even the Cardinals updated their unis and kept the name. Al Davis is the last remaining AFL owner and the Sliver and Black of the Raiders are looking just a bit faded too.

Point is, we can stay rooted to 1969 and hang on to our 5mins in the sun OR, we can move on to a new future and hopefully, a new destiny without totally discarding the past. We do have to remodel the house though. Its like having lots of wood paneling in a basement with shag carpet.. :)

Careful there Johnny, don't go someplace about which you don't know shit.

Back to the uniforms. Somebody explain to me how changing unis is going to revamp this team. We need real leadership, not clothes designers.

And those Jets are long gone.. Time to think about THESE Jets instead. Nobody is disrespecting that 1969 team but time has moved on and this franchise needs to do the same. These aren't the Namath Jets that played in Flushing,NY anymore. These are the Woody Johnson owned, New Jersey playing New York Jets. The two franchises are linked in name only.
