Let me first give a nod to the poster of Hypothetical Question #1: JFHJR71... However, I was thinking about this question a few weeks ago, and '71 reminded me with his post. Much as a rat tries to figure out a way of out of a cage with no doors, I was wondering what scenario might release me from following this hapless franchise. I suppose if they moved the team to say, Los Angeles, that would do it. But what if they kept the name and the colors? I might be inclined to root for them still...the pull of the green being that strong. BUT SUPPOSE, THEY STAYED RIGHT HERE, BUT DID AWAY WITH THE COLORS AND THE NAME? If Woody Johnson changed the name of the team from Jets and did away with the Green, would I still be a fan? Would you? For the sake of moving this in a more concrete direction...suppose he decided to go back to being the Titans sporting blue and gold...would you follow or bail?
I don't care for the colors, the team name, or the name "New York." Changin' all that would be fine with me. They don't want to go "New Jersey Jets" then make it "New York/New Jersey Jets". Why the heck not? Sure, there are licensing and marketing issues. To heck with it. Make the change. It can't hurt. I work with two people who hate the Jets and Giants because the two teams don't recognize where they play in their names. Sure, I get it. The Jets and Giants represent the New York metro region, but many NJ residents don't look at it that way. No surprise then that there are so many people in NJ who root for other NFL teams. Upon further thought- let the Jets stay as the "New York Jets"; let New York deal with the embarrassment year after year I wish the USFL didn't fold. I actually liked the New Jersey Generals just as much, if not more, than I liked the Jets.
I still would. One year the Jets, the next year a new team with many of the same players. I would stick with it. This thread is dumb because that will never happen, but yeah I would stick with them.
I absolutely would. I wouldn't like it, but I'd understand it. I root for the team. If my team feels the need to change its name to get me a Super Bowl, I'll deal with it. It could be fun, though I would hate it and feel sick.
New York Jets, green and white forever! Or until I kick the pail...so I guess until next week or something. While we're talking absurdities in here, can a football team be convicted of murder?
I don't know dude. The titans uniform is pretty cool too. I highly doubt they would ever go back to the Titans name though. With Tennesse having the name now and all.
i dont know about all that but i really want woody to change the uniforms... something a little more fierce. kinda like the cardinals, jets across the chest and a pointed stripe down the side or something idk
It would be interesting, but would never happen due to licensing more than anything else. It's good enough for the SEC West, though (two teams named the Tigers). The CFL had a situation like that for many years. There was a Roughriders team and a Rough Riders teams. Maybe the Jets can change their name to the Tit Ans.
The New Jersey Vaginas..... the colors can be pink and red.... it would suit this franchise perfectly.
I like the Uniforms the way they are now, a heck of a lot more than the uniform they used to wear during the 80's, and most of the 90's. I'd rather them stay the way they are, but like I said, I do like the Titans uniforms. They look pretty intimidating.
i highly doubt that the team would change their name and colors while still being in the same city, its brand recognition and 40 years of it cant be turned over in a couple months. however i could at some point see the team leaving, in that case hell no i would never root for them again, i would root against them at every single pass. i would probably wish bodily harm on the owner. and the city they relocated to. does brooklyn dodgers ring true with anyone? my mom hates the dodgers so much for leaving brooklyn. she will never forgive them and i will never forgive the jets or mets if they up and leave.
"i will never forgive the jets or mets if they up and leave." Actually, you should thank them for leaving and putting an end to your suffering. Did you know the Dodgers were named after the Brooklyn residents who had to dodge trolleys while crossing the street? I think they were initially called the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. How about renaming the Jets the New York Jet Dodgers after their fans? When people ask me which is my favorite football team, I usually try to dodge the question.
i dont avoid the question at all. i have no problem letting someone know where my allegiance is. the fact we havent won in 40 years lets them understand that i am not a front runner. and when they are patriots fans they are usually too stupid to realize at which point i get to point out all sorts of things they dont know about their own team which is so much more fun than avoiding the question. andre tippett? john hannah? john stephenson? :blank stare: thats why your opinion doesnt matter. you dont know anything about your team.
We could have the uniforms outlined to the shape of labias and the helmet would be a giant clit. So everytime our defense takes the field the other team looks like it's about to be swallowed by a giant vag.
Yeah, John Stephens. He had a nice rookie season in 1988 and it went all downhill after that. A few years later, the Patriots would draft Leonard Russell out of ASU. Do you remember the 1991 game when the Pates beat the Jets 6-3 in Giants Stadium and Russell went over 100 yards? Then there was the 6-0 Jets win in Foxboro two years later when Russell fell a few yards shy of 150 rushing yards. That was odd.
Actually, I'd almost approve of the idea; for whatever reason, changing colors and/or team names has helped teams win titles in the past and sort of dismiss history. The Broncos when they won their 2 titles are the best example, but there are plenty across all sports.
i actually liked john stephens. whatever happened to leonard russell? i used to watch the patsies when the jets werent on and felt bad for them so i would root for them sometimes. that stadium was such a joke to go to, everytime they played the jets or giants it would be full because it was easier to get tickets to games up there than home games. stupid bleachers! stupid 2 lane highway. nowadays there are patsy tools all over the place up here. i actually feel kinda bad for them now too. to me being a fan of a team isnt about bragging rights. i dont want the team to win so i can rub someones face in it. i guess thats why it doesnt bother me that much when others try to rub my face in it.
