Will the FO make a push for Spagnuolo now that he's eliminated from the Playoffs? Maybe bring him in for a second interview now that he has more time to prepare? As much as I'm against Spagnulo, I believe Woody is going to press for him. Mainly, because he's available now, and Woody might be able to get him for a better price since being eliminated from the Playoffs. Ryan; well, the further they go, the more the price rises. Also, as I previously mentioned he's available now and he'll be able to pitch to since he's already in NY. Watching the Giant game today made me a little weary. The Giants weren't able to generate pressure on McNabb all day. This of course is with players like Fred Robbins, Mathias Kiwanuka, and Justin Tuck. How would the Jets Defense fair against the more superior O-Lines of the AFC? Especially considering the AFC East, with the heaviest O-Line in the league (The Bills), and one of the better O-Line's in the NFL (Pats). Yes, he's intriguing because the Patsies are in our division and he did a good job of man handling the Patriots O-Line last year. Keywords being "Last Year". Back when the Giants had playmakers like Osi Umenuira and Michael Strahan. This is just the D-Line, not including Pierce and Kamika Mitchell from last year. So, how would Spagnuolo fair with guys like an aging Sean Ellis, a Sub-Par Coleman, and an injury prone Jenkins? Maybe time will tell. Maybe it won't.
Spagnuolo won't be coaching them so the question really makes no sense. They are looking at him as HC, not DC.
You think he's not going to have a say in the Defense? He may not be the man making the In Game decisions, but I guarantee if he comes here we switch to a 4-3, and he helps the DC devise gameplans.
I think he won't be coaching them, yes. If he tries he won't last more than a year and there is less than a 0 chance we will change to a 4-3. If they thought for a second he would try that he would be immediately eliminated from consideration.
I really, really hope we dont go after Spags. I would completly lose it if we went back to the 4-3. I just cant see it happening tho...
I think we're getting away from the real situation here guys. Woody Johnson loves money. Spagnuolo = Cheaper Contract / Easier Pitch Rex Ryan = More Expensive Contract
Now that Ryan has been interviewed, we'll know for sure who it's going to be in the next few weeks. Hell, if they're set on Spags we can expect an offer being made this week. If one hasn't been made by Friday, we'll know they're going to push for Ryan.
Quick question. Can the Jets pitch a contract to Ryan now? Or do they need to wait until the Ravens are elimated from the Playoffs or lose the Superbowl. More so, can Ryan accept a position with the Jets now, even though the Ravens are Mid-Playoffs, and would there have to be some stipulation where Ryan doesn't start 'till February (Obviously)
I was really hoping the Ravens would lose, but I understand we are interviewing Ryan tomorrow anyway.
Rex Ryan presided over a defense with a 5-11 record last year. Let's not make him out to be Buddy Ryan and the '85 Bears.
It was still a top-rated defense. You're forgetting that they had a terrible offense last season. It's not just the defense.
Fair enough. But they gave up the the only win the Fish had all year. Plus, why didn't the Ravens hire him as HC instead of Harbaugh last year. What do they know about Rex that you and I don't?
That is my concern also, if ryan is so great why isn't he a hc already? He had what 3 (could be 2) interviews last year for hc positions and didn't get it. I'm not sold on him or spags, but if it is spags I don't think switching to the 4-3 will hurt as much as people think. It's not like we had a steller defense using the 3-4. Our lbs can't cover shit and jenkins wore down by week 12. So 4-3 or 3-4 the new hc has work to do.
