Parcell's first pick in the 97 draft was a good one. Although I really wanted Orlando Pace. It's been nice career for Farrior with his second Pro Bowl this year. Why again did we get rid of Farrior ? Too small for the 3-4 ? Who's was making the moves of this one?
He had actually just had his first great year with us but Bradway chose to let him go and give Sam Cowart and his recently torn knee a shot. Maybe it was his Achilles. Either way, he wasn't to good.
I'm curious, just how big to 3-4 LBs need to be? James Harrison was DPOY of year and hes not that big.
Farrior was a 3-4 draftee and 01 was Herm's first year. They let Farrior walk because he was supposedly out of place and they brought Sam Cowart in to play OLB (ironically enough, out of place as well as SC was an ILB all his JR and pro career). If not for a torn achilles (bad injury) Cowart would have been a perrenial pro-bowler but he was slowed terribly by the injury coupled with position/scheme change. Cowart would have been an ideal MLB but Marvin Jones was locked in there due to contract. Herm goes on with his obsession for experience and we had the dinosaur LB corps Cowart, Jones, Lewis. In 04 Cowart showed flashes of his old self with the move back to MLB but got hurt in week 4 and the J Vilma craze began. Cowart is the exact example of career-ruined-by-injury. But to answer your point Farrior walked due to scheme change and (at that point) underachievment. I think he's more a product of a good scheme in Pitt than exactly his own play.
Farrior left the Jets as a freee agent, we did not get rid of him. He was very Medicore after comming back from from he Knee injury in his second season. His last two as a Jet he had 45 and 58 tackles. Farrior is a good cog in the steelers unit. He is not nearly as valuable as Harrison or Woodly to Pittsburgh, but he gets the job done.
We might need Cakes on this one, but I think that we chose Keyshawn over Orlando Pace. I recall thinking I wanted Pace too. As for Farriors development, it is amazing what good coachng and scheme can do. He in no way looked like an all-pro while here. I recall his career pretty much and he hardly even saw field for his first 2 years except special teams. Good for him but we would never have gotten the production out of him because we never had a coach or scheme good enough to make him look good.
We had the number one pick and we traded down when Pace was picked number 1 I think. Farrior had a good year in his last as a Jet but it was a contract year and they let him walk. Similar to Bryan Thomas only we resigned him for too much money and he's not that good. Who knows whether the same thing would've happened if we kept Farrior.
yes, although Pace would've been nice....... In defense of the JETS for once: Farrior's 1st good year was his contract year. The JETS gave him a fair offer and he balked, choosing to try free agency. He wasn't signed for awhile, and actually ended up signing with the Steelers for LESS than the JETS offered :shit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_NFL_Draft PAce went #1. Jets Take Farrior at 8. I remember reading this now that you bring it up.
Thanks for the link--I recalled that we had the opportunity to get Pace but messed up on the details. Be good.
James Farrior was a WARRIOR this team lacks players with the killer instinct style of play. This team lacks leaders and players from the Farrior mold. Aloowing him to sign elsewhere was a big mistake as was JAbe,JVilma,JMiller,DWard the list goes on and on. Many fans want the nice boys or the kind you want your daughter to marry.Unfortunately those guys arent succesful or win in the NFL. This entire situation pisses me the hell off when I see a former JET performing at the level these players have gone onto perform at....
