Alot of LeSean fans will be happy. IMO, the best all-round running back in the draft, should be an outstanding NFL player. LeSEAN IS LeGONE Posted by Mike Florio on January 8, 2009, 11:02 p.m. EST Despite having two years of eligibility remaining, Pitt tailback LeSean McCoy will be leaving school and entering the NFL draft. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, citing unnamed sources, reports that McCoy made the decision after consulting with former Pitt players, including Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald. McCoy skipped a Thursday team meeting, which fueled speculation that he will be leaving. In December, McCoy said that he would be staying in school.
I'm with you on that -- he has the most potential out of all of the backs. He looks like he can be a dominant pro back. Lets pray he falls to us.
we dont even need a running back..we have a rb who finished top 5 in the league and 1st in afc...and you guys want a running back with our first pick?
your buggin. no way we should take a RB in the 1st round. and mccoy shouldve stayed his senior season. he probably would have been able to be a top 5 pick next year.
Eh. He's going to make alot more money this year. Rookie cap is coming. He's very worth it. Dude can play RB. He runs like a young LT, or a bigger Leon Washington. Or like a better Thomas Jones.
Thats the thing. We have no money to throw around anymore. Leon is a free agent. And we need to keep him. Who are we going to drop, trade, restructure to give a player like McCoy the money he will command if he's selected 17th overall. Offensive skill positions always command more 1st day money than defensive spots. Prime example, Jamarcus Russell, Matt Ryan, Kellen Winslow...
hmmmmm.....this brings a predicament to my Jet draft fantasies for 09......a pass rusher at 17, or Shady......
thats not what im saying. im saying he WILL cost money, but where do u suppose they get the money from?
RBs over the age of 30 tend to go to crap all of the sudden. Look at Curtis Martin on this team. Or Fred Taylor on the Jags, last year he makes the pro bowl for the first time, this year he's average at best.
I agree, if this is going to be the best draft because of fears of a rookie cap, then next year will be the weakest. Watch Colt McCoy go #1.
Them. And they get it from us. You can say that about any business. Talent is talent. If they can afford it, then whats holding us back?
LeSean is the best feature back available. remember the last time the jets had a RB from pitt???? not to mention revis.......can't help but get good vibes from the idea of draftin Shady btw, next year there's gonna be no cap....
I'll put this simply. the 17th pick gets more money than the 18th, but less than the 16th. Doesnt matter who it is, whether we are drafting Peyton Manning or Anthony Schlegal. So whoever we draft at 17 will cost money. Tanny will be wheeling and dealing, cutting dead weight, and finding ways. Clearly we have to be able to afford to sign our first round pick, so Tanny will find a way to make it happen.
We have a RB over thirty who just had a great season. Remember what happened last time? Martin lead the league in rushing and then Zach Thomas killed him in week 2. Jones is nearing the end of his career. Leon, despite his great potential, hasn't yet proved that he can take the full load as a feature back, and no one behind Leon has the talent to carry the ball 20+ times a game. Drafting Shady this year will be an excellent addition to a great running game and the smart move. Jones gets more reps off and more rest while the defense has yet another threat on the ground to game-plan for and Callahan gets another weapon to freak out defenses. We might not need a RB right now but drafting purely by need is a terrible way to run a team. If Shady is there at 17 I'd pull the trigger in a heart-beat.
