This just confirms what Schefter is saying How Schotty Jr. can be so high up on the list when Billick is not even scheduled for an interview still beats me http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/01/national-football-post-tavern-talk-93/ http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/
If the Jets want Spags, when can they offer him the job? After the conference game and before the off weekend? Thanks.
Spags wouldn't be bad at all, but do we see him take the Tomlin route and keep a 3-4 defense or does he go back to the 4-3?? This team isn't complete for either yet so it'll be interesting to see what happens if he is hired.
I'm coming around on Ryan. After all the last time we had a Ryan on our staff we won a SB. My preference: 1. Ryan 2. Brian Schottenheimer 3. Spagnuolo
i'd stop watching the team if he gets hired... i'd go to a friends house to watch all the other games on sunday. Especially if Sutton is still around. If he is, I'm not telling people I'm a Jet fan.
My vote is for Spags Ryan had the Raven D which has always been great the Giants have no Strahan, Osi, Torbor, Mitchell & Wilson THAT IS HALF HIS D his to starting DE'S who were studs & 2 starting LB'S and the Giants have not missed a beat THAT IS COACHING. How good would Ryan & the Raven D look without Lewis, Suggs, Scott & Reed ?
I think you could say the same about alot of coaches who had great talent. We had 7 pro bowl players yet still couldn't keep from collapsing.
I'm going to be mad if Schotty is hired. This is the same guy who everyone was cricizing for not running with Jones enough, underutilizing Leon, not playing to Favre's strengths, and he had some very dumb play calls, like the double reverse in the snow against Denver. I'm also not a big Spagnola fan, as I don't like hiring a 4-3 DC to be a 3-4 head coach, and there's no way the Jets can switch back right now with the personnel they currently have.
You can't make decisions worrying about what the fans think, that's why we got Favre and fired Mangini. I like brian Schottenheimer, I think he's done a good job and I think he has what it takes to be a good HC and I'd have no problem w/ him being elevated.
I still don't know how I feel about Ryan and Schottenheimer. I think I might switch your 1 & 2, but otherwise, I'm pretty sure I agree with you. Spags is third on the list. I'm still really curious to see whether the problem with the offensive playcalling was Mangini or Schottenheimer.
Wow, I guess you haven't been watching our offense the last few years. Head scratching at best. Maybe he'll find an OC that can be introduced to our most explosive player, Mr Washington, someone BS didn't know that well.
I'm 99% sure you meant to write "can't" in there, and I agree 100% with that. I don't know why the public has allowed the media to make them believe that a professional sports franchise has an obligation to make its fanbase happy with a coaching decision. The ownership should hire the best possible front office. That front office should hire the best coaching staff. That coaching staff should make the most of the players they oversee. It's not a complicated formula.
I agree totally but sadly when we are talking about the Jets, that logic flies out the window. I find it hilarious that the same NY papers who couldn't wait to run Mangini out of town today wrote articles about what a joke the Jets were that he got a job so quickly.
This Fanbase is already pissed off and although you can't hire nor fire to placate them, Woody finds himself in a position of having to keep in mind exactly where this franchise is and how to keep it viable. Meaning he has market considerations to keep in mind. He has to hire someone that not only would be good for his team, but also good for the market as well. He can't screw this up especially with the Giants threatening to keep this franchise in the shadows for years to come. He also has those uber-expensive PSL's to sell in a cash-tight economy so no, Woody cannot afford to ignore his fanbase and stand on principle alone. Principle doesn't sell PSL's nor does it sell merchandise. This is the biggest market in the country and its presently dominated by: Yankees, Giants, Mets, and rated probably just ahead of the Cablevision Collection of franchises, the Jets. If Woody is half the businessman I hope he is, he'll hire a "name" assistant or ex-HC not named Schottenhiemer. Fans may not make the football decisions, but empty seats and non-selling merchandise speaks very loudly..
