lowery was better in September then December, why is everyone making such a big deal about this. I honestly think he played better as at the beginning of year he did what e did in college, played facing the QB and then as acclimated they had him play with back to QB like they want and he slipped. Everyone wants to make it out the regressed is such a knock. Tiger Woods won more majors between the ages of 27 -29 then 30-32 did he regress - technically yes is he still awesome yes. My point is that I don't think Lowery was taught properly during the year. Everyone says teams exploited him, should he have not been schooled during week how to avoid this.
Lowery also got picked on a lot more at the end of the year because most teams took advantage of his lack of speed. And overall, our defense basically fell apart after week 13
Almost every player got worse the longer they were with Mangini. Lowery got worse and Mangini spend 5 years as DB coach at NE and is supposedly a genius at this. Vilma got worse. When Drob was the NT we often played a one gapping 3-4 which decreased the need for bulk on the line, but increased the need for such among the LBs. When we got Jenkins we went to the two gapping 3-4 NE uses. Jerod Mayo isn't much bigger then Vilma and he had a great year. Not only could Vilma have succeeded here he was actually needed here for pass coverage. Pace got worse as the year went on. BF got worse. KC has not developed at all, the young WRs are not developing, Dbrick is developing very slowly. Rhodes is declining. Except for Revis and perhaps Mangold its hard to think of a player who didn't decline under Mangini's withering touch. Remember when people thought Joey Porter and Pennington were washed up? Good coaching matters.
Would you say that better coaching would have helped Harris this season? Plus the fact that he didn't look healthy all season long. But technically, he regressed.
i think you touched on something, I have a funny feeling it might come out now that mangini was gone. I think Harris played hurt all year. I don't think they ever specified what his injury was. He had groin injury that reported he had surgery. All I can think of is he had a sports hernia, which sometimes guys try and play through, it caught up to him tried to rest it for two weeks, it did not get any better then had surgery. So looking back on it and I hope, perhaps he was injured from day one. I think Mangini may have created a problem with disclosing injuries and never reporting them. Because it would never get out to fans and media that guys were hurt, I believe perhaps players tried to play through injury for fear of looking like candy asses. Looking back at it Jenkins should have probably sat for denver and perhaps even San Fran and he might have been dominant again for the last 3 games. One more question- had anyone read or has it been reported that Harris suffered a major ankle injury during the Miami Game?
David Harris Topics Page - USATODAY.com LB David Harris left the game in the second quarter with an injured ankle, and was on crutches after the game . . . --- One of the radio guys talked about it during the game, I forgot who, maybe Lyons.
I am glad I am not the only one who sees that Harris this entire season didn't even look like half the player he showed glimpses of becoming his rookie year. And remember we traded up to get him. Rhodes was basically ineffective all year. I agree the only prominent player that has improved over the last three years is Mangold. You cannot count Leon because the RB is so differnet than any other in the NFL, it is pure instinct and ability and the only position along with KR that rookies often flourish right off the bat. I still think the basic knock on tannenbaum is constant trading up in the draft , I much prefer the Parcells way of trading dwon for more picks. None of the picks he traded up for are going to turn out to be hug difference makers. Even Revis wasn't worth the trade up, he is greatly overrated by many on these boards. And as solid as he is , One decent corner means squat when you have no pass rush, no LB's that can cover and poor safety play. Keller another trade up dropped way to many passes this year and dissappeared down the stretch , the jury is still out , but I do not think he will met the expectations of once again trading up
Lowery is going to be a very good corner. There was no friggin pash rush for most of the year, and he's running around in the secondary for 6, 7, 8 seconds trying to cover these guys. Don't give up on Lowery...he's a natural playmaker who will get lots of picks (especially with Revis on the other side) once the Jets put some heat on the passer.
I agree. Lowery got picked all year 'cause of Revis. I think he'll prove to be another great 4th round acquisition as soon as we fix the pass rush.
