Haha that he could. Woody announces next Jets coach:.. Oprah Winfrey at 48981 to 1 odds!! All while betting under a false name. Hey Oprah's a motivator right? Seriously though I know we've been there for this, but it is just striking to hear that the Jets have had 9 coaches in the last 20 years, that to me is the sign of a disfunctional franchise - no stability and no continuity. 9 in 20 years just sounds incredible.
Idk how anyone would not want Rex Ryan as the next HC, He's a polar oppisite to mangini, we all saw how good this team can be when they are motivated, Rex Ryans players love playing for him that is exactly the kind of coach we need and as an added bonus he might be able to bring some of the FA Ravens over with him in the offseason, someone like T suggs would be nice. Idk Maybe I'm not seeing the downside to the guy, I've heard the arguments, but I want Rex Ryan .ats_suck:
Exactly. No one is saying that Ryan will build us a Ravens-like defense overnight, but this guy KNOWS how to build a great defense. I'd rather take the chance of potentially having a shutdown defense sometime in the future. Wouldn't that be something?
How long will it take to build it, though? He will be saddled with the players already on our roster. He will have to turn those lemons into lemonade. Good Luck. Not saying he would/wouldn't be a good HC, i just don't think he has the horses to build a defense the caliber of Baltimores. If those are the expectations, i think we will all be disappointed.
Exactly. I agree that Ryan can look at a guy like Rhodes and see how he can implement him in a way that he can maximize his talent. He's not ever going to be Ed Reed, but I do know he was a lot closer to that type of player the last 2 years than he was this year. Whatever the reason, the guy has major talent, that if used correctly should be a Pro-Bowl player, barring injury, year in, year out...
Ryan is a very proven DC, and I'd like to see what he could do with the parts we have in place now. At least we know Rhodes won't be playing 25 yards downfield.
With the Jets train of thought the front office will sign Callahan who will be the second coming of Rich Kotite and trade a few mid round picks for Grossman....Rex Ryan is my favorite candiate by far but it seems too good to be true.
It is kind of a scary thought. It seems when ever a nfl team brings in a "specialist" as HC defensive or offensive that side of the ball suffers. BB was supposed to bring an offense to baltimore marvin lewis was supposed to bring a defense to cinnci. Favre was supposed to bring NYJ a SB. These are a few examples I am sure i am missing a couple. At the end of the day we will all have to wait and see what the hell is going to happen.
Umm, something's amiss. The 1992 Eagles were coached by Rich Kotite. The two best Eagles teams of the late 80s and early 90s was either the 1990 team coached by Ryan or the 1992 team coached by Kotite. The 1990 team lost a wild card game at home. The 1992 team won a wild card game at New Orleans and then got pulverized in Dallas.
I get a feeling that Rex Ryan is a modern day Bill Arnsparger. Arnsparger was the architect of the vaunted Miami defense of the early 1970s. He took over as Giants head coach in 1974. He shit the bed for three seasons (7 wins, 28 losses). Some guys are simply coordinators and that's it. I have seen Rex Ryan interviewed several times. He comes across as a mad scientist as far as coaching defense is concerned. He does not appear to be the type of guy who would do well when leading an entire 53-man roster and a full coaching staff. That's just how I see it. I could be mistaken. Just because the Ravens have a good defense, it does not necessarily mean the Jets would ever have a fine defense under Ryan. As an offensive coordinator, Brian Billick was hailed as a genius in Minnesota. Then as a head coach, he presided over a nondescript offense in Baltimore.
My only caveat is that it is Newsome who knows how to build great defenses. Now that's a fucking GM. He's made that team's defense since 2000.
Do we have an interview scheduled with this guy? Seems the Rams will interview him on Sunday. I heard we were waiting for them to be out of the playoffs. Obviously we will fuck this up too. Anything to make it so that we have no choice but Schittenheimer. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sp...6C5FD13C27CF7D9086257537006FA037?OpenDocument "New England’s Josh McDaniels is scheduled to interview with the Rams on Friday, and Baltimore’s Rex Ryan will interview with the team on Sunday, league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Wednesday."
