Sparano was Parcells' O-line Coach and TEs coach and Running Game Coordinator in Dallas, a known commodity who probably didn't even need an interview. Bad example. He's a Parcells guy hired by Parcells.
It is a bit of irony that the only two truly successful HC's we've ever had had success and won Championships with other teams prior to coaching the Jets (Weeb Ewbank and Bill Parcells)
Maybe to make the leap from position to HC he is willing to take far less salary then say Spags or Rex Ryan
Probably because the Steelers had their 3-4 established for like 2 decades when he got hired. What foresight would that require? It's common sense. Why would the Steelers even allow for it to happen? What dominant D did Mangini take over and overhaul? Herm...well Herm's Herm.
and herm had alot of success here. The last time the Jets missed the playoffs 2 straight years? the 2 years before Herm. The next time? 3 years after Herm.
Parcells didn't bring in Martin? Or Mawae? How about Testaverde? Maybe not but if he did I think players like that may have made a wee bit of difference over who Kotite left behind.
The Cardinal's offensive line was woeful against us. We were sacking and hurrying Warner all day, forcing turnovers. Moreover, the Cardinal's "rushing attack" is a joke. Is it the players or the blocking schemes?
Herm Edwards did a good job of getting the team to the playoffs. But thats it. Brien didnt help with the missed kicks but his game managing was poor during the end of the Steelers game in the playoffs in 2004. His end game managing as a whole wasnt great either. As for why Russ Grimm? I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he was supposed to be next in line for the Steelers head coaching posistion. But then Tomlin blew the FO away and got the job. The Steelers are a well run and well coached organization. So I guess it couldnt hurt to give him an interview and see what he is all about.
Here's my $0.02 on the interest in him: 1. I think the front office was for a fleeting moment very intrigued with the idea of getting Bill Cowher. Grimm was a Cowher guy (sounds like the let's hire Mangini cause he knows Belichick). Grimm was also a semi-finalist and the frontrunner for the Steelers job if it weren't for Mike Tomlin blowing the Rooney family away. 2. If the Jets have serious interest in either Rex Ryan or Spags, it is possible that neither will be available for the next couple of weeks as their teams could progress further towards the championship. Very few people (if any) give Arizona a chance in Hell of beating Carolina; therefore, Grimm becomes available by Monday. I don't hate him as a candidate. But he's not my 1st choice. I'm wondering if Woody and Tanny are considering settling for him out of this concern. If our next HC is going to come from a team still playing, it is awfully tough to wait until Monday, Feb 2 to be able to interview let alone hire a new coach. Then that coach has to assemble a staff and everyone needs to get their shit together quick because the Combine isn't long after and before you know it, free agency arrives.
He was the Packers QB coach after Steve Mariucci left then went on to become the Eagles HC. But you are correct he was never their OC.
This thread was hijacked by Parcells talk. Sorry about that GJF. There was a new thread created for that topic.
no problem, I didn´t expect this thread to stay on topic long, and once I saw junc post, I knew it was over. So what do we have thus far, Grimm is cheap, he was liked but not hired by the Bears and the Steelers, his name will make some very funny headlines if we suck and we got Kurt´s gut feeling. Did I miss anything? Beside of Kurt, isn´t there anyone out there, that is sold on him? He seems like one of the frontrunners for the Job.
