Is that why Parcells tried to sign Pace? Our why Belicheck seeks out Rhodes after every Pats game? We need a good 3-4 DE/dt. Parcells got 2 in this last draft. Our line needs help.

I agree. Jenkins has proven himself to be a great 3-4 NT. The problem is that there is no depth and they need better 3-4 DEs. Ellis is old and Coleman is average.

Belichik seeks out Rhodes after every game because he knows that if Rhodes was on the Pats with all the other talent around him he'd be a dominant safety in the middle.

To play Belichik's 3-4 the Jets need to be as big as they are now at LB but those guys also need to be able to cover receivers - like Adalius Thomas and Mike Vrabel can. They also need better defensive linemen. Jenkins is a good player in the middle but he can't handle the load there by himself and nobody else on the team can play effectively at the nose to spell him. DeVito and Coleman at RDE are also very much over-matched. Ellis is kind of average at this point but he'd be a lot better if there was a decent RDE on the other side of the line.

People keep dumping on Ellis, but it was Coleman who had the really lousy year.

Im not dumping on Ellis at all. He came through in a few games for us. But he is getting really old, really fast. You can see that he is getting slower. He is not really a 3-4 DE either. They need to get a young player behind him. And I agree on Coleman.

I remember Merrill Hoge during the 2006 draft talking about Kellen Clemens like he was the next Peyton Manning so that goes to show what he knows.

The red flag for me on Gholston was when he was in street clothes a couple games. This guy is making WAY to much to be in street clothes. Im sorry but he is a BUST. I usually agree you need to wait but when he did play he looked like a high school player when it came to LB or DE skills. Yes he is built like a house and has all the athletic ability but so does just about every other player in the NFL. Horrible pick by the Jets especially with the needs in other areas ie CB, SS, WR

Anyone know what Merrill Hoge was saying during midseason after we beat the Titans and Pats?

If he was so bold, he would have said something back then. It is easy to beat a dead horse.

It's hard for LBs to rush the passer when they are told to drop 10-15 yards in pass coverage.

I live in Ohio and saw it coming like a slow train wreck, but we couldn't move out of the way.

This was the worst pick in the last decade.

Merill Hodge gets schooled on a regular basis by Jaworski.

Ditto...I'm in Columbus....and knew that Gholston was a pick the Jet's would regret. I got so much hate on this board last year before the draft. Everyone and their brother wanted Gholston. Watching his uninspiring play & laid back attitude at OSU and the Jets converting him to a 3-4 OLB was like watching a "grease fire out of control".

Ghoston...great physical speciman........lousy, no instincts, I wouldn't even call him a football player.

The Jets took days off my life the moment they drafted Gholston. I was thoroughly disgusted.

I wanted Gholston because I felt Thomas was expendable and him/Pace would be a nice tandem...

Boy oh boy. Can we get Mayo instead?

    Ouch.

Cakes....You and Me both.......we were the few on the draft board that hated Gholston being considered. I look forward to the draft all year and the Gholston pick ruined my weekend.

It seems that the biggest problem player there has been Kamerion Wimbley. He had a good sack total as a rookie, but has been very underwhelming the past two seasons. He does not play the run well. Wimbley is a better version of Gholston and that's scary because Wimbley is not a good player.

Shaun Rogers played well for them this season and he may get some All-Pro votes. The first team DT spots very well may go to Haynesworth and K. Williams. Jenkins, Ratliff, P. Williams, and Rogers are some of the guys in the running for the 2nd team spots.

Jackson and Davis are good inside linebackers. The Cleveland secondary has talent, but they have been too inconsistent.

Remember that year when the Vikes messed up and didn't get their pick in on time and then three teams passed them (somebody can look it up to see if it was 2 or 3 or 4 teams) and made picks really quick?
When the Jets were on the clock, I was seriously hoping (and I had texted so to a friend) that the Jets would have their own Vikings moment and fumble the draft card or something. Letting a couple picks go by and seeing some other team get saddled with Gholston would have been great fun.
