I dont want Brandon Moore to go anywhere. Why get rid of a good Offensive Guard?

Brad Smith I could see the Jets parting with.

    Bryan Thomas I agree

Get rid of Baker if it makes sense cap wise. Otherwise he should remain our starting TE. He has good hands and is a much better blocker then Keller. Not that I dont like Keller over him but I like Keller in the slot or just mainly as a receiving threat. Baker is a solid player.

Wallace Wright is a good special team player. Get rid of Brad Smith like you said. Not Wallace Wright. Even though Smith is a good gadget player and special team player as well.

    I agree about Kenyan Coleman

Why get rid of Pace if we stay in the 3-4? He proved in Arizona that he couldnt play 4-3 end. Pace is a good player and we should and I believe will hold onto him. He's not great in coverage but he can get better and he is a good pass rusher. Mangini stopped letting him loose after the New England game. the blitzing pretty much stopped. If they didnt coach conservative Pace would have had double digit sack numbers.

    Depends on the coach no?

I think if we hire Spags, then we just may see Kerry Collins or even David Carr behind center.

Brad Smith --- special teams superstar. special teams is necessary to win games. his wr skills are improving slowly he can contribute to the team positively
Brandon Moore ---replaceable, but did the job not a major concern.
Bryan Thomas -- yeah he can take a hike.
Chris Baker --- better blocker than keller, but replaceable
Wallace Wright --- great special teams player anything else they may get out of him is gravy
Kenyan Coleman --- decent player. again replaceable but not a major need.
Calvin Pace he stays i dont know how he made any list.
The Whole Secondary except for Revis, and Rhodes- dont know why elam was on the list of people who stay he is as replaceable as anyone else. maybe a nice backup but the secondary needs a makeover.

AFAIK? What is that? I'm assuming you haven't been paying attention to the rumors but the rumor is that the Pats are going to franchise Cassel

Yeah, it was Bill Walsh who said it, but he didn't follow his own advice.

He did not draft a QB every year.

Quarterbacks drafted by San Francisco during Bill Walsh's tenure as head coach-

    1979- Joe Montana, 3rd round
    1980- Dan Hartwig, 9th round
    1981- Joe Adams, 12th round
    1982- Bryan Clark, 9th round
    1983- none
    1984- none
    1985- Scott Barry, 6th round
    1986- none
    1987- John Paye, 10th round
    1988- none

Walsh was the SF GM from 1999-2001 and then was a consultant for three years after that.

QBs drafted by SF in those years-
    1999- none
2000- Giovanni Carmazzi, 3rd round and Tim Rattay, 7th round
    2001- none
    2002- Brandon Doman, 5th round
    2003- Ken Dorsey, 7th round
    2004- Cody Pickett, 7th round

Walsh may have said it is good to draft a QB every year, but he did not actually always draft a QB every year.

I think it is interesting to look at one of his proteges- Mike Holmgren. He actually drafted some good QBs who were used as backups and then were traded.

    Green Bay
    1992- Ty Detmer, 9th round
    1993- Mark Brunell, 5th round
    1994- none
    1995- Jay Barker, 5th round
    1996- Kyle Wachholtz, 7th round
    1997- Ronnie McAda, 7th round
    1998- Matt Hasselbeck, 6th round

    Seattle
    1999- Brock Huard, 3rd round
    2000- none
    2001- Josh Booty, 6th round
    2002- Jeff Kelly, 7th round
    2003- Seneca Wallace, 4th round
    2004- none
    2005- David Greene, 3rd round
    2006- none
    2007- none
    2008- none

AFAIK stands for "as far as I know", for someone who acts like such a forum warrior I am surprised you dont know.

The only rumours I have seen have all said that it would be prohibitively expensive for the Pats to franchise Cassel, he is a decent enough QB but he is nowhere near the level of player that he would cost them in cap room to franchise.

If Sanchez enters the draft this year (Which I highly dought) and if he doesn't have a crazy combine that propels him to a top 5 pick try to go after him. Even if it involves trading up. Otherwise draft a QB with high potential in the latter rounds like Rhett Bomar or Tim Tebow (if he enters and only if he falls). The you can enter camp with a Sanchez/Bomar/Tebow-Ratliff-Clemens-Ainge(who I think will get cut soon).

If they did franchise him by far the smartest move he could make would be to sit where he is and pick up the $14m, if Brady is still injured he plays and gets a chance to make a name for himself as something other than a one season wonder, if Brady is back then he spends a year as a back-up and gets a huge paydeal to do so, nice work if you can get it.

I think if Brady is healthy they will look to trade Cassel right there and get something for him, but I get the feeling Brady isn't going to be healthy for the 2009 season.

I'd rather just keep Clemens and Ratliff, but it would make sense assuming there are decent prospects out there. I don't really follow college enough to have an educated opinion on the matter.

The Jets should have been grooming a quarterback 3 years ago, thats what I don't understand.

But, I guess that would make sense, silly me

I agree but the thing is they can try to trade Cassell but once he is signed to that sheet if he doesnt get an awesome offer from someone else he is free to just sit back and count the $$$$$, they can't force a trade on him.

I say develop what we have because Ratliff and Ainge ain't that bad from what I have seen but also give Clemens . And get a good QB coach like how the Giants did it after his Eli's first year and like how San Fran did it when Alex Smith had a good year when they had Norv Turner as the QB coach. Look at what Norv has done with Rivers too. So getting the right QB coach should help.
