The Cardinals first home playoff game since December 28, 1947. On that date, the Chicago Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Eagles at Comiskey Park by a score of 28-21 for the NFL Championship.

The following year featured a rematch. This time the Eagles would win. It was played in a blizzard in Shibe Park. Steve Van Buren scored a touchdown in the 4th quarter and the Eagles won 7-0.

I am so far behind on this thread, but it will be an offseason project for me. Anyway, here is the post I put in for the 1948 NFL Championship Game.

Until 'zona wins a big game in my lifetime, I always go against them in the bigger games and have thus far been very successful.

I think the Cards will move on.

I don?t see how the Falcons small DBs could hold Boldin/Fitz in check. The only chance I see for the Falcons ist to get pressure on Warner and force him to turn the ball over, but Atlana doesn?t have a Passrush other than Abe, and if he doesn?t have a great day, I think Warner will rip them apart. And we all know, how often Abe had a great day, when it counted most.

The Cards D will also have a hard time stopping the Falcons-O, but I don?t think the Falcons will be able to keep up with the Points Warner/Boldin/Fitz/Breaston will put up. And even thou, Ryan isn?t a typical Rookie-QB, young QBs tend to have trouble against the 34.

The Cardinals defense has underachieved this year. Losing Calvin Pace didn't help and the play of LCB Roderick Hood has really dropped off. Hood was good in 2007, but he has had major problems in 2008.
They desperately need a quality pass rusher.
They will have to revamp the defense in the offseason. Karlos Dansby will likely leave. He's not worth the money the Cardinals would have to dole out to keep him. He's good but not great.

But, for now, it's about beating the Falcons in a shootout, 38-34 or something. Should they win today, then it is about seeing if they could make things interesting next week.

To the surprise of no one, Abe is questionable.

The Cardinals 2nd down pass play was not intended for J.J. Arrington. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was the intended receiver. You'd like to think the announcers could note that a starting cornerback was in the game for the Cardinals offense.

17 weeks ago, I noted that Rodgers-Cromartie was the intended receiver on a go route. Like the play today, Warner was pressured and threw a poor pass.

    I found the old post.
    This was from Week 1-

EJ is looking good. If Atlanta can't stop the run they are toast.

Rooting for the Falcons here, Michael Turner was the NFL MVP for my money.
