The fact that Denver was even in the hunt for a division title speaks volumes. I know that the AFC West isn't that tough of a division, but the Broncos lost about 50 running backs this year, and Shanahan's offense revolves around running the ball. Most teams would've completely fallen off the map with that many injuries at one position.
If we get Ryan, I think this would be a good representation of his battle with other coaches: TOM Cruise( Fat bald dude with beard)= Rex Ryan Flaming Dragon= Any other coach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVEtF3ppbac WARNING CONTAINS MUCH INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, but it is incredible funny.
sadly yes. Because the Giants got a bye, we are able to interview Spags on Saturday, but he can not be offered a job until the Giants are eliminated. Ryan's team (Baltimore Ravens) did not earn a bye, so the Jets will not be able to interview him (or offer him a job) until his team is either eliminated from contention or they win a super bowl. Personally im hoping the Ravens lose quickly, hopefully by the end of the divisional game they will be out of it. At least we can interview spags to see how much we like him. but Ryan is the better fit for our team.
it seems that many people are basing their choices on what defense we are currently running. if we were still running a 4-3, would more people have chosen Spags? it seems like many people, myself included, don't want to sit around and wait for another rebuilding year as all our veteran players get one year older (Faneca, Pace, Jenkins, TJones etc). if Spags came in and ran a 3-4 until he got the right personnel, would anyone change their mind? i picked Spags as my choice, but i really have no idea which one will make a better head coach. Although, i don't really know if Woody Johnson knows either
I think our player personel to run a 4-3 is actually pretty good. Jenkins has been a dominant 4-3 DT in Carolina. I think Harris would make a fantastic MLB. Gholston is much better suited to play DE in a 4-3 front. Pace would be a very good SLB IMO. Baltimore plays almost as much 4-3 as they do 3-4. Ryan mixes things up a lot and will also play some 46 at times, a defense that brings a ton of pressure against the QB and run game but leaves the secondary vulnerable to quick strikes.
Rex Ryan not only matches our 3-4 but has way more experience 1987-1993 was a DC in college 1994-95 lbs and Dl for Arizona cardinals 1996-99 DC at cincy and then oklahoma 99-2004 ravens defensive assistant 2005-08' ravens DC/assistant HC
Harris is not fast enough to play MLB in a 4-3, and Pace isn't fast enough to play OLB in a 4-3. Our LB's are not suited for a 4-3 at all IMO. Changing back would set us back a couple of years at minimum.
spagnuolo has some experience and had a chance to continue to learn under the chargers, eagles, and now giants but he really did not have a major role in personnel until 2007 when he was named Giants DC
I respectfully, disagree. Whichever coach comes in, will play whichever defense he wants. If it's Ryan, he will see we don't have the proper linebackers for a 4-3, so I seriously doubt we would see it all that often.
new update, through 170 votes the ratio is still hovering around 2:1 in favor of Ryan. It seems that the board has come down from it's Spags fever of last week, only to be replaced with Ryan fever this week.
The only reason I'd take Rex is b/c of the 3-4 as we have spent the past few years getting rid of good 4-3 players to change to a 3-4 but Spagnbuola has been the better DC and for whatever reason Giant DCs seem to make good HCs. What is the fascination w/ Rex Ryan?
and how many SBs has his team won as a DC? I'll take the experience of transforming a choking Giants D into a big time D that carried their team to a SB over a guy who hasn't really done much as a DC.
