This IMO is how we need to build this franchise: 1- Let it be known that Tannenbaum will be in charge of all "non-football" matters(ie. Cap, contracts, etc.) 2- Hire a real "football mind" as our GM, ala Parcells in Miami, and let him build this team 3- Realize that you need to build through the draft- Put together a top notch scouting dept. 4- Give Ratliff a shot- Seems to have all the traits you look for in a QB(comfort in pocket, strong arm, size, etc.) 5- bring in a veteran QB as insurence 6- Realize that defense wins championships, and dedicate yourself to building a dominent D. 7- If we do bring in a first time coach, make sure he has a staff with lot's of experience, so that the HC can learn "on the job", with battle tested coaches. Not first time coordinaters who are just as clueless as a 1st time head coach. Pretty simple, no?
Look at Sporano's staff in Miami. He has Henning as OC. The guy is like 80! He is a guy with experience, who can help mold a young head coach. I think that was one of Mangini's downfalls. He had Shotty, who was a virgin, and Sutton, who is a moron. I know Westhoff was a guiding light for him, but i think instead of trying to build a team of allstar players, we should put a staff together of allstar coaches.
I don't think "rebuilding" is an option either. Woody's got a real problem with the PSLs and the new stadium opening up in a couple of years. He needs to field a competitive team with what we have right now (plus whatever we can get during the offseason). Some of you guys can bitch and moan all you want about him looking only at the bottom line, but this man put a huge investment into this team. If he doesn't get a return, then I think it'll just hurt the team in the future.
Nice idea if you are starting a team from scratch. Unfortunately, none of that will happen with the Jets. Everybody keeps forgetting that everything that has been done in the last year and will be done in the next year is to sell PSLs. Period.
Yes, your right. We are a WIN NOW team. Not because of anything else, except the selling of PSL's. That alone, makes me believe we are not getting a 1st time HC.
Unless we keep pissing them off. I would think Jets headquarters is in a complete state of panic this morning. They believed they could get Cowher it would seem. Now that they can't what are they going to do? They won't bring in a first timer, I agree. Otherwise, why would they have fired Mangini now? He sucked but not as bad as some others might. At least you knew what you had with him. Right now I see Shanahan and Shottenheimer as the only viable choices left.
Not claiming him as the second coming. I'm just saying that he has enough of the tools to give him a legit shot. I still want a veteran on the roster, but we need to see if we have our futer QB on the roster.
I see that Favre says it will take him "several" weeks before deciding if he wants to play again....wake up Brett, we aint gonna wait on you. If Woody is adament about wanting Brett back....maybe Mooch is a top canidate. Personally, i like Mooch, always thought he deserved another shot, somewhere.........maybe here is not a good thing. I will say this, and i havent seen it on the board all year long, (altho i coulda missed something). All things considered getting Favre......new playbook, new scheme, new coaches, new everything......I thought our pass protection sucked all year long....can anyone remember Favre dropping back and having any kind of time to survey downfield? Nope.....always hurried, and whacked thereafter. Only Mangini and Shotty know why the hell we didnt run the damn ball soooo much more. Bottom line is.......our coaching sucked bigtime.....i dont even wanna talk of how bad the D was.....a friggin disgrace. Special teams was ok. I wanted Cowher............now i dont know. I believe Ratliff may be the guy, we dont know yet, i dont wanna draft another QB tho, sign a Vet if theres no Favre............and get me a pass rusher......PLEASE
