I think there should be a designated fielder rule in baseball. Put this in place right now, Selig, you silly bastard.
Jones could be the Mets DF.

Daniel Cabrera signed with the Washington team, so he'll pitch against the Mets multiple times in 2009 providing he does not get injured.

The most ridiculous part of this whole scenario to me is the fact that LA is actually looking to get anything for him. Let's see, I've got the worst player in baseball on my roster and he's due 15m next season and someone wants to take him off my hands. Better demand a couple blue chip prospects.

It's completely unacceptable if Castillo isn't going the other way; that way we get Hudson probably, which would be worth sticking Jones in the back of our line-up (he was never comfortable in LA anyway) or playing him part time. But if not, I'd be pissed.

I don't see any way it's acceptable, because Jones is completely finished and a worse hitter then Castillo at this point. Only instead of a turd at 2b now you're sticking one out in RF. I just don't understand why the Dodgers wouldn't be falling all over themselves if there was even a possiblity of getting Jones off their team.

Either way we have a turd, but with Hudson, we'd have one less. I suppose it depends on what else they do before the season starts in either scenario.

A day after seeing this and I'm still trying to figure out what the hell the Mets are doing even considering this garbage. I saw him play in Triple A and he was awful down here. What's worse is he doesn't give a shit, he got fat and stopped hitting and basically told the writers in LA he doesn't give a shit. Just google TJ Simers and Andruw Jones and let the comdey begin..... in one of the articles Simers actually challenged Jones to a diet contest.

I took the liberty to do a quick google search and this came up

This was one of the exchanges between Andruw and LA Write TJ Simers

Since offering to go on a diet with Andruw Jones and getting nowhere with him, I’ve lost 14 pounds, so I checked in with the Tubbo on Saturday night to see how he was doing on his own.

    “Have you lost anything?”

    I don’t care,” he said.

I shook my head in disbelief, and he said, “I don’t care what you think.”

“Do you care what anyone thinks?”

    “I don’t care,” Jones said.

Saturday night the fans in Dodger Stadium booed Jones’ name when the starting lineup was announced. “Don’t you care that the fans in Dodger Stadium have turned on you?”

“No,” he said. “That’s their problem.”

I suggested that it’s not human for someone not to be bothered by booing fans in their own stadium, and he stuck out his tongue and made some noise.

“How do I write that down?” I said.

All together now: “I don’t care,” he said.

Without the fans, I said, there’s no reason for you to be here in Los Angeles playing baseball and no way you’re getting paid $36 million over the next two years.

“I don’t care,” he said. “You play for the team, you don’t play for the fans. The fans never played the game. They don’t know.”

Both a Tubbo and clueless, which really isn’t a very good combination for the player with the highest annual salary in Dodgers history.

If Omar goes and and somehow gets this clown on the team I may boycott the season or follow a team that really wants to win and not pretend they want to.

If we can move Castillo for Andruw, I make that deal.

Despite how horrible he has become, Andruw is signed for just one more year and Castillo is signed for 3. If I'm Omar, I make the deal and just tell Andruw to go home and sit on his ass. We pay his contract this year, and are rid of Castillo and Andruw forever.

Then we go out and sign Hudson to a 4/36 deal and in doing so, we bring in a Gold Glove/Good Chemistry/All-around good player.

If Omar can move Castillo for a 1-year headache, he's a genius.

Except the dollar value of the contracts is almost the same. If you're willing to eat 15m for Jones this season why not just release Castillo and eat the 18m he's due over the next 3?

Because teams these days are too proud. Also, Jones could rejuvenate a little bit maybe in a new city, if not, release him as you would Castillo.

We've made an offer to Lowe for 36 over 3 years, by the way.

no way they release him with 3 out of 4 years left. he gets 1 more year to prove last year was just injuries and a down year.

    or maybe he just sucks

I'd release him, but that's obviously not going to happen.

O-Dog would be great in the 2 spot and up the middle with Reyes. Also, it allows us to drop Murphy down which improves the bottom of the order.

I'm not an Orlando Hudson fan either, not sure why everyone is in love with him. He was a low-mid .700 OPS guy his first 3 years in Toronto and has been a low-mid .700 OPS guy for Arizona the last 3 years on the road.

I don't like Orlando Hudson that much, either. He'd be a perfect Mets player, though, because he takes September off every year.

On MLB Network, some guy said the Phillies may make a move for Derek Lowe and Tom Verducci said Lowe would like to go back to Boston.
