It's because they have to break the story.... they need to be 1st. Throw in the fact that it's a brand and many stupid people only associate sports news with ESPN they know people will still watch and listen to their product even when they are wrong.

Clayton's report made no sense from the get go. You dpn't get up and walk away from Cowher simply because he wants his own personnel guy. That's something you at least take time to think about and negotiate. This will all be cleared up by Sunday when Cowher speaks, if not sooner.
