this could be all a big smokescreen. ESPN is horrible for accurate reporting. I could be wrong...but i'll wait for further, more RELIABLE, confirmation.

If the report turns out to be true...it's not the end of the world....Spags and Schwartz are still available....

It all comes down to money. Cowher leaked that he IS interested, so now the ball is on the Jets court.

Beningo on the FAN is now flipping out, since his side guy just handed him the story on ESPN.com. I don't think we go for Spag...Not anohter coordinator who has never been a head coach. I'd take Mooch or Billick before another unproven offensive or defensive coordinator.

Yep he sure has. Since as time goes on it appears the ESPN story is a bulls eye so you have to wonder how Woody will defend himself about not getting Cowher because he had toi move Tanny out

I follow you champ...and you have to post what you hear..that makes sense.

My point would only be is that it doesnt make any sense. Cowher wants to bring in his own gm? Thats kind of twisted. A gm demanding he bring in his own coach would make sense..a coach bringing in his own gm? Unheard of in the 20th and 21st century.

Its a strange demand. Cowher demanding a BB type of existance where he gets the final nod on player personal? That I could see..because if thats the case...who cares who GM really is..as long as he can structure salarys etc.

    MT can do that...at least.

Only took 60 posts for someone to make some sense. Woody should dissolve his entire organization so Cowher can come here and maybe screw up after a year and leave us in total turmoil?

This is a great opportunity for Cowher--if he turns it down, to hell with him.

    It's Official

It's official Bill Cowher not Interviewing with the Jets because he want's to bring his own Personnel Person and the Jets are going to keep Mike T.

Personally I agree with this decision only because Mike T has shown us that he can bring in skilled players....the chin should have the right to bring in his own coordinators but not a GM

but his big time first round picks have not developed -- #4 D.Brick is so so and #6 Gholston is a bust -- those two picks should raise red flags

Here is the official story from ESPN.com

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, who rejected a chance to become head coach of the Browns last weekend, is not going to interview for the head coaching position of the New York Jets, according to multiple sources.

Cowher, according to a source, has been contacted by the Jets. Although he is interested in the Jets job, he told the team he would not be a candidate because he would like to bring in his own personnel director. Jets owner Woody Johnson plans to keep Mike Tannenbaum as his general manager after firing Eric Mangini as head coach Monday.

With Tannenbaum as the general manager, Cowher is willing to pass on the Jets opportunity, stay in broadcasting for another year and wait to return to coaching in 2010.

Cowher has told friends the Jets job interested him for several reasons. First, Cowher would love to coach in the New York market. Second, two of his daughters are either going to school or working in the New York-New Jersey area.

Cowher does plan to coach in 2010. In 2009, though, he was only willing to return if every situation was right for him. He wanted to have a two-year break from coaching to be with family and recharge.

Last weekend, Cowher met with Browns owner Randy Lerner, who asked him what it would take financially for him to be the Browns head coach. Having a close relationship with the Rooney family in Pittsburgh and still wanting more time with the family, Cowher didn't give Lerner a price, and said no.

Cowher recently extended his contract with CBS for another season.

John Clayton covers the NFL for ESPN.com.

I hear you. I understand that. I wouldnt give into that either. Sorry. No coach can tell me who my gm should be.

MT has been good..not great. The growing pains were obvious. I doubt it was his total intention to have 3 out of 4 of his linebackers be converted lineman..and then DRAFT A 4TH IN GHOLSTON. That was to pacify a man that fell in love with a 3-4 defense and wouldnt budge.

Im totally ok with this right now. Lets see how it plays out.
