ESPN Insider article Cowher options: The only way Bill Cowher coaches in 2009 is if the Jets fire general manager Mike Tannenbaum and that is unlikely. Jets owner Woody Johnson is close to Tannenbaum and trusts him in running the football operation. Cowher interviewed over the weekend in New York with Browns owner Randy Lerner. Lerner asked Cowher what he would accept as salary to be the Browns head coach. Cowher decided he wasn't going to take a job that was so close to Pittsburgh and the Rooney family. The Jets job interests Cowher, but it looks as though he won't be coaching again until 2010. Jets on lookout: Although they have yet to make contact, Spagnuolo and Schwartz might be considered the early top candidates for the Jets job. Spaguolo's success with the Giants gives him credibility with Jets fans. Schwartz broke into the NFL working with Tannenbaum. Even tough Josh McDaniels of the Patriots is considered one of the hottest young coaching candidates in the NFL, there is no way he will end up with the Jets. Unlike Eric Mangini, who disappointed Bill Belichick by leaving the Patriots to go with the rival Jets, McDaniels is too close to Belichick to even consider interviewing for the job. The Jets are probably reluctant to go for a young coach from Belichick's stable after firing Mangini after three seasons. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=clayton_john
Well, Schwartz is also a former Bellichik peon, but unlike Mangini he has had way more experience as a coordinator. I'm still hoping on Cowher though.
Haha...I like that now...no way McDaniel's comes to the Jets because he's REALLY BB's boy. Just forget that shit we said before we hated Mangini. God I love the media.
Alright, call me a noob, but... Why will Cowher decline our offer unless Tanny is fired? Confused.. Does Cowher want to be a GM?
Spags would be fine...Move back to a 4-3. Sign Albert Haynesworth next to Jenkins, kick Gholston back to DE...Lets go. Haha.
I like McDaniels as a coordinator, but not as a HC. Same for Weis. He's come up with some really sharp offenses for the Pats to be honest. He's like Schotty has the potential to be. McDaniels took alot of trash after he replaced Weis. I really like Schwartz as a candidate. And I think he could work with the 3-4. It doesn't seem out of his realm at all, he's considered one of the more intelligent DC's out there. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/23/sports/football/23titans.html See, thats what I want. He's only 42 right now, he's smart as shit, he's good at what he does, and he's aggressive. He'll look good on the front of papers, get asses in the seats, and coach well too. It's win-win.
Since when was "shit" the standard for intelligence? But yeah, Spags, Schwartz, Cowher...they all sound pretty good right about now. I think I'd be content with any of those names.
Schwartz only worked one year under Belichick. I wouldn't get too worked up over it. More importantly, Schwartz has been working under Jeff Fisher for 10 seasons. I think this is notable and is a good thing.
I do believe these two are the top candidates even though I would prefer a proven HC. When a team knows who they want and they are available they jump like Cleveland is doing. A team waiting around for there next HC to lose in the playoffs will set up visits for 5-7 days down the road with dark horse candidates to keep poeple guessing.
LOL @ the idea that working under Bill Belichick is a bad thing. Come on guys... True on the Fisher, Cakes. Fisher is definitely more of a people person.
Despite solid drafts Tannenbaum is an accountant and he's not really a football guy bro. He needs a player personnel guy to be more successful.
