I think they give you all the good things Spags could, but none of the (potential) negatives that come along with the hiring. And again, if Rob (my bad) can field a decent team in Oakland, think what he could do with this personnel in NY.
As someone who watched every Jets snap this year ? I beg to differ with you analysis of ?a damn good 3-4?. If by personnel you are referring to Jenkins ? okay; it?s otherwise hard to agree that the personnel is there when you don?t have a linebacker worth a shit in the 3-4 (spare me Harris fans ? we were worse with him). I don?t think going to a 4 ? 3 would be any harder than fixing this bullshit disaster manretard created.
What exactly does Spags bring to the table besides being a defensive coordinator under a SB team? Sound familiar? Rewind back to 2006. We were praising Mangini for being the EXACT same thing. Players loved him, great Xs and Os guy, all around a great prospect. Come on!
Mangini was never a coordinator for a SB team. That was the first year of the GPC, when they got kicked out of the playoffs by Denver. His defense wasn't even good.
Harris is a 3-4 LB by trade, going back to his college days. Jenkins wore down as the season went on. Get him a backup NT (Grady Jackson, as I said in an older thread) and you don't have this problem. Besides, if you go 4-3 you have NO LBs. Half the current core is converted DEs, that only works in a 3-4.
Just checked. His defense was actually ranked 26th in the league in yards compared to 9th the year before and 6th the year after. In hindsight, great signing Tanny!
Signing Grady Jackson would do shit for us. He's old. He's never played in a 3-4. He has no real incentive to want to learn a new position, especially if it's only as a backup. I'd rather draft someone and keep Pouha. Like all Jets not in your face good, Pouha takes alot of crap for no reason. The dude is a friggin...backup...and not even a bad one.
I personally like an attracting defense. Spagnuolo surely a consideration! I think Jenkins would do even better in a 4-3 defense.
sean ellis can play 4-3.. kris jenkins can play 4-3.. david harris can play 4-3 eric barton can play 4-3... trusnik can play 4-3.. gholston can play 4-3 coleman would have to move to dt , he can play 4-3.. theres no defensive overhaul.. stop it man.
Who are the LBs? Do you want Trusnik as anything more than a backup? And Barton is your MLB, fine. Who plays outside? Pace, Thomas, Coleman; they are converted DEs that lack the lateral agility to play SAM or WILL in a 4-3 system.
Yeah but you need to get two New OLB's... Because neither one of them are fits for a 4-3... Harris doesn't fit the 4-3 either...
Guys, we're not going to be a playoff contender nevermind a Super Bowl contender if we overhaul our defense and adopt the 4-3. It would take at least another 2 years to get the players.
Point is - I don?t think any of the LB?s are working in the 3 ? 4. I read allot of bullshit about not putting pressure on the QB ? it?s pretty hard to do in a 3 ? 4 when all of your LB?s are too inept to come off their blocks.
This wasn't the case until the scheme was figured out. The Jets lead the league in sacks at one point. That didn't happen by accident. And Pace is your quintissential 3-4 OLB; you are wasting your money with him if you go 4-3.
I disagree that this was the only game where the pressure got home. It was the best game for defensive pressure, but not the worst.
Are you serious? Pace gets completely waisted if we move to the 4-3. Gholston as far as im concerned can't do shit in any situation or at least hasn't proven it yet. Trusnik? What? Coleman is way too small to be a dt...cmon. It'd be a huge defensive overhaul.
barton was OLB in 4-3.. and and pace can play olb in the 4-3.. he can cover and blitz not big a difference.. The main things that separates these players from system to system is size.. Fine well have a bigger OLB in pace no big deal.. He was playing olb in the 4-3 sometimes in zonas 3-4 4-3 hybrid last year .. Look at some 4-3 teams dt's they all dont weight 350 lbs.. he can play DT in a 4-3 if his mind is right and he works on it... Trust me.. If a coach like spag comes here pace will be doing a whole lot of blitzing anyway.. I just dont see it from your point of view..
