With the caveat that much of this has been posted before -- and I know alot of you dont like Mike -- here is what he has to say: 1. Coaches have not been fired. 2. Woody fired the coach "for Brett." Woody loves cache of having Brett here. Can see getting rid of Brett but clearly Woody wants him. 3. If Brett stays -- they hire Cowher; Marty; Fassell. Mariucci or even Westhoff. If Brett goes -- search open much wider (Urban Meyer; Spagnola (sp); others). 4. Sees both sides of argument. Believes Mangini winds up somewhere as coordinator and will get another shot. Two winning seasons not enough because of money spent.
if we hired Fassel, i'd have to go on a homicidal rampage. When you write a letter of intent to the Raiders, and it's turned down....that speaks volumes. Next.
Your owner and gm, are dopes. It starts with them. Did they watch Farve the last five weeks? The guy is finished. The owner wants your money, go pay for your psl's.
If Woody really wants this, he is looking to hire a puppet, not a coach. That rules out a lot of the people who could resurrect the team. If there is any truth to what Woody is trying to do here we are looking at 3 or 4 wins next year at best and once again we will be at the cellar of the East.
Farve was a one shot deal/gamble, that is it. He isn't the future of the team, he shouldn't come back and we shouldn't take him, especially if he pulls any of his retired to unretired drama. It is time to give someone else the ball.
I've been thinking for the past couple weeks if Mangini was fired, I wouldn't mind seeing the Jets get Mariccui. I was kind of hoping for him after Herm. Plus Favre & Mooch are proponents of one another.
if Favre is pulling Woody's strings...which seems to be the big rumor right now....then candidates like Mooch, M.Sherman, and Holmgren will most likely get consideration.
I agree...I'm not a big fan of M.Sherman either. But if the rumor about Favre being the driving force for sending Mangini down the river is valid....you have to believe a) he's coming back and b)he'll certainly have input in the coaching selection. I'm hoping this is just a rumor....Favre only has about a year or two left....maybe not even that....i don't think he should have any influence over the coaching future of this team.
Mooch is actually an interesting candidate, he's a guy who at least knows how to utilize talent. His tenure with the Lions was admittedly brutal, but I'm not sure that Vince Lombardi could coax more than 6 wins out of the team he had.
whenever he did reviews of jets games on the NFLN, he talks about how vital it is to put the ball in the hands of leon washington. i just want a coach that understands that more to begin with lol. id like mooch but wed have to bring in a great hire at DC to solidify it in my book. but i wouldnt be opposed to it. id like cowher but im thinking the odds are pretty low. but moreso i think theres a plan in motion otherwise they wouldnt can mangini so quickly.
