Sure, coaches need to be given some time to get things flowing, but I can't agree with that rationale when it comes to Mangini this year. For the last five games the poor coaching and gameplanning was so obvious that even the TV commentators were baffled by it and pointing it out every week. It seemed like everyone in the world could see how bad the decision making was except for the Jets coaching staff. If the team had played with heart and motivation all year and wound up 9-7 after losing a bunch of hard-fought games, that's a different story. When you go 1-4 down the stretch losing embarassingly to very beatable teams to knock yourselves out of the playoffs, lose the final game to the Pennington Dolphins at home, and then implicitly blame the players in the post-game press conference, all the while sounding like you could really care less..... It's definitely time to go. And gone he is.
Someone had to pay for the collapse, it always starts at the top. Although we have seen an improvement in our draft picks, I am not talking about the ghost here. There is a good foundation to work off of, but like everyone else I am tried of waiting for next season.
sums it up pretty well. Add to that the almost deliberate inability to gameplan to your players' strengths and you have to go.
This is a dumb move by the Jets. Mangini wasn't that bad of a HC. He is barely under .500 and has made the playoffs already with this team. He only has one losing season since he had been here. He brought a lot of good to this team. He was in the process of making our 3-4 look good. Now what do we have to show for all that hard work? I predict this comes back to bite us on the ass. It will be just like the Chad Pennington situation. I would laugh my ass off if the Bills fire Jauron and were to hire Mangini. Just to come back and stomp the shit out of this franchise. Damn I'm bitter right now.
luckily the Jets organization apparently has a higher standard than simply having a coach that isn't that bad, and prefer an overall record above .500. but hey, with standards as low as yours, I guess you can never really be that disappointed.
i liked mangini but this year hes showed a consistent lack of 2nd half gameplan adjustments, and changes on the fly. which is why were always competitive in the first half and slowly fall apart till the final whistle. especially when it matters. in most of our losses they shouldve ran more, if im the HC. i tell schotty jr to eat a dick and remind him our RB leads our conference in rushing. he seems more like a student of the game and less of someone who will get in your face and take problems hands on. he does love gum though, maybe he thinks being a HC is like just the best seat on the field and he sits back and enjoys some wrigleys
Either they really are dedicated to be more successful or they are looking for someone that they can cash in on, like, Cowher. It takes time to build an elite team, I honestly think it would've happened under, Mangini. I guess we'll never know. Hopefully we wont be looking back on this move next year dreading this firing of, Mangini. Somehow, I think we will. We are going to end up with an absolute bad fit. I can feel it.
Kris Jenkins is what made that 3-4 barely seem respectable. That D couldn't provide consistent pressure, couldn't cover anything away from Revis, and without a fresh Jenkins, couldn't even stop the run.
Mangini can certainly chew gum with the best of them. The sideline shots of him while the ship is burning instilled visions of Walton picking his nose. I caught him saying a few words into his microphone a couple times this week. That's improvement I guess. He did a great job rolling his eyes when his geriatric QB would throw picks. Who calls the plays?
His half time adjustments were terrible. And maybe if he didn't seem like such a little ***** on the sidelines/post-game it would have been a harder decision. If they would have ran the ball every play in the last 5 games, I think they could have won 2 of them at least (I hope).
This kinda reminds me of how certain people felt when the Jets sent Hermy to Kansas City. Would most of those people want him back now? Hell no! Mangini is an even bigger fraud than Hermy. At least Hermy was good at his rah-rah speeches....
As an outsider, this may not be my place, but I think firing Mangini is a mistake.... I watched a morning presser of Woody / Tanny discusssing the future of the Jets organization, and I've got to say I wasn't very impressed with the way they handled it. The impression I came away with was that they both have too much power / control over the inner workings of the Jets. They talked about how they always work together in making important decisions, and yet, the majority of the decisions they make always seem to end up being a failure.... They're now giving Mangini the shaft, and for what??... Mangini wasn't the genius who decided to trade for Favre and allow Pennington to walk, and he certainly doesn't deserve to be fired just because Favre didn't get it done the way they / the fans were expecting. There was always the possibility that bringing Favre to the Jets would blow up in their faces, and lead to what has now transpired into reality.... Maybe they're the one's who deserve to be getting shafted. I don't see any evidence to support otherwise. It's now going to take more time to rebuild things, and with a new staff being added / arriving, there will certainly be a transition factor involved. I'm wondering about the patience of Woody / Tanny, and how long they're going to give the next HC before kicking him to the curb. For the fans sake in NY, I hope it's more than 3 years.... IN TUNA WE TRUST....
