Haha yeah. It comes down to how much Woody wants to win over how much money he can immediately make.

Frankly, there are some parts about that presser that convince me that things will get worse before they ever get better. Other parts were encouraging. For starters, I want an end to the Brett Favre Experience. Now. Clearly, they'll at least give him the room to play his retirement games for the buzillionth year in a row.

I came away MORE impressed by Woody Johnson. I get the impression that he's taking a strong and active role in bringing about a championship, and doesn't see this team as just a fun hobby. The swiftness of this action was a good message to fans.

I came away LESS impressed by Mike Tannenbaum. He strikes me as a meathead that I'd never even consider hiring. I can only hope that he's an idiot savant in his own office, because at the podium, he sounds like a stuttering and stammering dope.

Which is what I've been saying all along.
    That's Woodys angle.

Favre was untouchable in this PC.
When the Reporter asked if the New HC were to bench Favre...Woody began saying that wouldn't happen then changed his tune.

    Folks.
    TannyWood says "FAVRE IS UNTOUCHABLE!!!"

Your problem starts at the podium today, and the guy they want back as the qb.

If those Favre jersey sales allow Woody to throw big money at players like Faneca, Jenkins, Pace, etc... & potentially pay the $8-$10mil per season it's rumored to take to get Cowher, then I'm glad he thinks that way.

To begin, public speaking has nothing to do with player evaluation or cap management.

Second, everything that Woody said today seemed to convince me that Woody's only angle on this team is solely financial, and that will be what dominates his decision-making throughout his tenure as owner. I'd hate to sound like I'm agreeing with Champ, but Woody is only chasing dollar signs. This firing wasn't swift action, it was knee-jerk reaction. He wants Favre back to sell more PSLs and jerseys.

As I said, I hope he's a genius in his little office square, because he has a very UNimpressive public presentation. That's not insignificant, but certainly something for which he can compensate elsewhere. The next two years will tell the true story for Mike Tannenbaum. Being handed a checkbook and an invitation to spend doesn't take any level of genius. The most recent television deal has made the mechanics of the salary cap easier, which may get easier still if the cap goes away altogether. I'll hold my judgment on the guy and revisit this some other day.

They did not give Mangini enough time 3years is not that long to turn a team completely around. Look at some of the other elite teams...they stuck with their coaches even when they had bad years. This is a joke....you could blame maybe 3 the loses on coaching but the others are on Favre. He gave the game yesterday to Miami as well as Seattle, and SF.

Mangini will coach again in the NFL and come back & beat the Jets just like Chad did.

    Probably right.

At least the Jets gave him some experience. He is still young and will be a head coach again.

They had to dance around the Favre questions because he's still on the team and his future is uncertain, and they don't know who the new coach will be and who that coach will want as his QB.

I think Mangini has to take a step back & prove himself before he gets another shot. He never really proved himself as a coordinator. He'll have to do just that, before he's considered for a head coaching spot. I think he may even have to go back to being a position coach first.

I can't believe Favre gets a pass here.

He flat out sucked as the season progressed. When they needed him most, in December, in the weather, weather that was supposed to be Chad's achilles heel, strong winds and so on, he failed. And failed horribly.

I can't believe they want him to come back.

I don't know about that. After the Spygate incident, Mangini is not loved throughout the league. Add the fact that he did poorly with a team that had 7 Pro Bowlers. I wouldn't count on him being back as a HC. Maybe as an assistant.

Plus, what's redeeming about him? He had one lackluster year as a coordinator, and before that he was a secondary coach. Hiring the guy now would be nearly as big of a leap as we took three seasons ago. But the real kicker might just be that 2008 deflowering of the Belichick coaching tree. Aside from Nick Saban (who failed at Miami) and Kirk Ferentz (maybe), there's no THERE there.

I realize that - that's why I'm asking if it will be REPLAYED later, I couldn't tape or listen to it at that time.
