A lot of people compare today to the final game in 2002....and rightfully so...we can either be division champs, a wildcard, or not make it....and in both departments we need help.

Here is the difference though....in 2002 the Jets got off to a 2-5 start and had to fight all season just to give themselves a shot on the final day of the year. That was a feel good story...when you come back and show all that heart....things tend to go your way. On that day....on that magical day....they did.

This year...the Jets collapsed into this spot. All they had to do last week was beat a 3-11 team and they'd control their own destiny....all they had to do was win ONE of their west coast trips vs horrific teams and they'd control their own destiny. When you collapse....things tend to not go your way at the very end....ask my NY Mets.

The 2002 team was better straight across the board.

The difference is that there was less people on message boards that year, so you had less of a chance to hear about how there was no chance in hell.

Also, there was a young QB playing for us, and not a 39 year old who just casually brought up how he might have an injured shoulder.

That and in 2002 not everyone expected a Super Bowl. 2002 shocked the hell out of people.

What people forget about 2002 is the Jets were heavy favorites coming into the season and got off to a horrendous start which caused them to switch their QB....then they came back.

The difference is the Dolphins had a dumber coach than we did in 02. Juron is not going to get an opportunity to blow this game in the 4th quarter he did it in the second quarter.

ok so what your saying is that as a result of less message board traffic and lower expectations there is a difference between beating a bad team to control your own destiny and the reality of the jets shitting the bed...

dude your posts are not even optimistic theyre just stupid

This season is very similar to 1986, when the Jets started 10-1, lost five in a row to end season, made playoffs, won WC card vs. Kansas City and then ended the season in Cleveland in OT, thanks to the Gastineau Penalty. It took the franchise a decade to recover after that season. Hope it doesn't take as long after this latest debacle.
