With 3 games left in the season, the Jets could be picking anywhere from about #16 to the late 20's in round#1 in April. My 1st Rd targets are Secondary, LB and WR (not a huge 1st Rd receiver fan) and 1 possible DE. Possible first round targets: William Moore, S Mizzou.......Big Safety that would look very good with Rhodes. The Jet's Safeties are interchangable, so Moore would do well. The Jets need another Safety, plain and simple. Moore had some nagging injuries in 2008 that slowed his production. Many Mocks have Moore in the top ten, but I believe his stock will drop some with underclassmen declaring. May be availbale if the Jets lose their last 3, but is doubtful. Jets may have to trade up a few spots if they covet Moore. Vontae Davis, CB Ill.........I believe Jenkins is the #1 CB in the draft, Davis had an off year and could be available in the mid-teens. The Jets need more secondary help and could trade up a few spots to get Davis. Alphonso Smith, CB Wake........doesn't have great size, but is a playmaker (int. machine) and a nose for the ball. Good speed and recovery skills with very good techique. I like how Smith looks back for the ball while covering Wideouts. Should be available when the Jet's pick. Rashard Johnson, S, Bama.........a very smart player that plays the run very well. Hits like a freight train and has good, not great coverage skills, but needs some improvement. Johnson will be available in late rd 1. Brandon Spikes LB, Florida..........I love this kid and would be a nice player next to Harris. Seems to do everything well. Florida's defense wouldn't be the same without Spikes. Spikes has the potential to be a star LB in the NFL. Definitely will declare, especially when Florida wins the championship. Clint Sintim LB Virginia...........plays outside, but is very well suited to play inside in a 3-4. Many scouts and draft experts agree Sintim has all the physical tools and strenght to play inside. I saw 4 Virginia games this year and Sintim was the best defensive player for Virginia and it wasn't even close, he's in on almost every play. Coached by Al Groh's 3-4 defense!! Drops into coverage, stout at the point of attack stopping the run, gets to the sideline quick. Has Football insticts and desire, something VG sorely lacks. Available when the Jets pick. James Laurinaitis LB, OSU......James where have you gone??? The "little animal" could have been a Top Ten pick last year, now projected to be a late Rd 1 pick or even falling out of the 1st RD. I like JL, he a smart tough football player, I'm just not too sure if he would do well in our 3-4 in the middle. Not as physical as AJ Hawk, but a smart player that makes a ton of plays...... that could get run over in the NFL. I like, his playing partner Freeman in a later Mid Rd for depth and special teams. Jeremy Maclin, WR Mizzou........could go anywhere from the teens to the mid 20's. I hope Crabtree declares, so it pushes Maclin's stock down .A very special player that could be easily gone when the Jets pick. I predict a mid -teen to a early 20's pick. Expected to declare. Reminds me of a bigger Tory Holt. I'm a big Maclin fan...I'd love him in Green & white. Darruis Heyward-Bey WR, Marland..........Big target that is productive despite Maryland not focusing on the pass. Might be a good choice with Maclin gone. Some like Heyward-Bey's upside more than Maclin, I'm not sold on him yet. This player could have a huge upside and ton's of potential. Could be a risky pick...Bust potential. Tyson Jackson, DE LSU.............The perfect 3-4 DE, the Jets really good use some more help at DE.
I wanted to add 2 players to my 1st Rd Jet Targets... I'm still Projecting WR, CB or ILB...should be the Jet's targets in Rd 1. Kenny Britt WR, Rutgers...............Local player would be a nice fit with the Jets. Britt's size and ability make him a great fit with NYJ. Coles days seemed numbered. I'm still hoping for Maclin as my #1 WR target for the Jets. DJ Moore, CB, Vandy...........Let's face it, TY Law is a Joke. The Jets may strongly consider CB in Round 1. Revis is our only solid CB and Lowery may be moved inside. Moore has played very well in the SEC. Has good size and quickness. Looks every bit the part he can play CB in the NFL....should declare and has been rising up many boards. Great kickoff returner also.
I don?t have that much clue where guys are ranked right now, gotta read me into the Prospects and watch some Tape, after our season is over. I?m just curious, are Maualuga, Raij and Cody out of reach?
This is a very good list of people who will be around when our 1st rounder comes up. Would have to grab Vontae Davis if he's available & if not, then William Moore. Tyson Jackson & Kenny Britt would be excellent 2nd round picks.
I love the Brandon Spikes pick, guy is a beast in coverage and can lay some hits on people. Kenny Britt can be a first rounder, it'll depend on his 40 time but if he can put up a 4.3 he'll go before the second round.
We should actually look to trade down this year. Losing that pick to Green Bay for Favre really stings. PATS have 2 2nd round picks this year & I've seen a lot of mock drafts with them taking Emmanuelle Cook from South Carolina with one of those picks.
WWS, THX!! I think Britt has a shot to go in late rd 1. Can you imagine how much better Britt would have done this season with a really good QB?? It's real hard to tell where players are going to go yet, since most Juniors haven't declared. The Jets should definitely be able to get a very good player among the above listed players.
CKNY^.....Brandon Spikes and Jeremy Maclin are my 2 favorites that could be there when the Jet's select!! I love Spikes.....he's going to be a GREAT PRO!!!
WW85, no problem. You're right about Britt possibly moving up -- its a long 4 months & anyone can move up or drop down. I'm also a Brandon Spikes fan, even though IMO, we could fill the hole at ILB by re-signing Eric Barton short-term & also by getting a new D coordinator who can tell the difference between his a$$ and his elbow.
Terrence "MT" Cody.....I believe he stated earlier in the year he was staying in school. IMO, one of the quickest big men I've ever seen, the Kid is a Freak of nature.. Rumors that he has dunked a basketball when he weighed over 400LBs. Cody's best playing weight is around 365 LBs. Should be a Top Ten pick next year! Maualuga...........People either love him or hate him. Hits you like a freight-train going down hill. Not the most fluild linebacker and will probbaly not break 4.6 on a quick USC track. Has been immature at times, but is still the leader of USC's defense. Could be a Boom/Bust player. I'd rather have Brandon Spikes in the middle for the Jets. Spikes is an all-round great player with few weaknesses. Raij...........Could have declared last year. Probably the best NT in the draft and should be a late 1st Rd pick. I don't see the Jets' going NT in Rd 1. Some scouts feel Raij may play some DE in a 3-4.......I'm not sold on it.
Duke Robinson is a guy I'd like to see the Jets take a look at to replace Moore at RG. I know there are significantly more pressing needs, but Robinson's the best player at position in this class by a mile. In the short term, another position might make more sense, but if you get the chance to get elite play at a spot for the next 10-15 years, it is something to consider. The Jets drafted David Harris even though Vilma and Barton were already in place.
Thanks. Maualuga might just be too bad in Coverage, along with Harris, but they would be one kick ass ILB-Duo. Maybe I?m thinking too much ahead, but if he would be there, and we pass on him, the Dolphins, who pick just behind us will gladly pick him up and we gotta face him twice a year. Last year, really hoped Raij would come out, I felt he would be a absolute Steal, in the 3rd or 4th, where he was ranked. Now, I wouldn mind Picking a NT like him in the 1st. Jenkins was banged up a lot this season, and it really showed, especially the last few games. And he needs a lot of breathers, I wouldn?t be surprised if the Snaps would be anything like 60/40 between him an Pouha. I feel that a young good NT is definitly a need to spell Jenkins and take over after the big man is done. Raij or Cody, both are amazing players, Raij is the stout little angry Runstuffer like Wilfork, while Cody is basically Kris Jenkins 2.0 . If we get our Hands on one of this guys, I?m happy. Built the Trenches Raij as a 34 DE? How should that work, Cody I can see, but Raij is too small and not quick enough to do it.
I agree Raij should be a NT, I was stating that some think he can play DE in a 3-4, I don't agree. Here's a case where staying in school helped a player, he's going to make a few million more staying that extra year.
