I don't watch much college football, so I wanted to ask you guys if there are any solid NT prospects in this years draft. I know we have more pressing needs, but with Jenkins durability concerns I think it would be wise to try and find his replacement sooner rather than later.

BJ Raji is as good as advertised, and is better than he was advertised to be last year.

Rob Brace, his teammate, isn't bad either.

Terrence Taylor from Michigan has fallen out of favor because his team sucked this year, but he's got some nice upside as a 3-4 NT.

Dorrel Scott is a name most haven't heard, but he's got the size and skills for the job and he's been a fine player on Clemson's D line.

Scott, Taylor, and Brace are going to be nice little mid-round finds IMO. I doubt any have a significant impact early on, but given proper coaching and so on...they'll be players. All 3 come from schools with at least decent pedigree for producing trench players.

Also, an option not being talked about enough for our DL this offseason is Igor Olshanksy of the Chargers. He's not a NT, or even a playmaking type 3-4 DE in the mold of Castillo, Seymour, or Warren...but he holds his gaps and defends the run well. He's strong as hell. He'll be a young, proven starter on a good D hitting FA this year...they have no real reason to keep him unless they feel like Williams' age is going to force them to keep as many big bodies as they can.

As far as juniors who might declare...Cody is the name everyones going to keep an eye on. Boo Robinson from Wake Forest might declare. If he does, he becomes my #2 guy after Raji.

i would like to take a nt in the 3rd or later rounds...we need to spend our 1st to picks or even 3 picks on a wr, db, and ilb...if we can get one in free agency, we will be flexable in draft

I appreciate the response, but aren't these guys all a bit undersized to be an NFL NT?

    Negativo.

I look more at body type...all these guys have big asses and low centers of gravity...the weight will come once they get themselves some pro training. If I remember right, Kris Jenkins was drafted at like 315 pounds. Justin Tuck was drafted at around 260/265...he probably plays closer to 280 now and I've heard Giants fans get as high as 290 when he was rotating inside so much last year.

Imo, Raij and Cody (if he comes out) are the top guys to look at.

Considering Coleman couldn't buy a sack and Santa probably refused him one for Christmas...yea.

Why are you looking at guy's asses?

Height has a lot to do with putting on weight. Players like Richard Seymour and Julius Peppers can add a lot of weight to their frames and not lose any athleticism.

Justin Tuck was rotating inside to provide an interior pass rush. A lot of college teams are using big defensive ends inside now because their pass rushing moves are more developed. Tuck is a beast and usually holds his own against bigger blockers, but he wouldn't be effective inside for an entire game.

Kris Jenkins made himself into a 3-4 nose tackle...he almost ate himself into retirement. I know a lot of it is muscle too. He was under 300 pounds his entire college career. He was about 290 pounds as a 4th year senior at Maryland. He played a defensive end as a true freshman and weighed like 275 or something like that. Some guys can just put on weight. He's added about 60 pounds over 8 seasons in the NFL...and close to 100 since his freshman year in college.

Cause I'm gay. Duh. Why inquire? Feeling curious on Christmas?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say with the rest of your post. I'm not even sure you know to be honest. You just reiterated my post and threw in height, which doesn't matter a whole lot for the NT position (though Jenkins and Rogers have kind of turned me around on that).

Also, weight doesn't matter as much as technique, strength, and the balls to do the job. Jason Ferguson isn't even 320 and he's made a fine career for himself as a 3-4 NT.

What's everyone's problem with Kenyon Coleman? He's fine against the run, isn't that what he's supposed to do?

He was given the mega bucks by the coaching staff, and isn't playing like a mega bucks star.

Ignore that stars are paid way more than him.

Nah...I really like Coleman as a player. I just think a DL with Ellis, Jenkins, and Olshanksy would best optimize Coleman's performance...he had 5 sacks as a rotational DE with Parcells (runs the same kind of true, 2-gap 3-4). Not only that, but it makes our DL a legit monster because we would have some really good rotational guys with Mosley and DeVito...and this is with my favorite backup talent on this team (K. Brown) still not seeing a ton of snaps.

He's been decent. He lacks any kind of pass rushing skills it seems. He is not a Ty Warren or Richard Seymore type guy who lives to punish the otehr team. We need a big time player on our D line that can get after the QB. Ellis has been decent, but another DE would help greatly.

Very good player against the run.

I'd rather be in myself when the other team is passing.
