Kerry Rhodes is a good player, excellent skills, good mind and dedicated professional. He looks lost on the football field right now and he is doing what the coaches have asked him to do. This is Tannenbaum and Mangini's team every single player has been fully tested both physically and mentally. This is their team, nobody else's. This team looks like a team that is confussed and doesn't believe in what its doing against mediocre at best competition. You can call it adjustments, execution, scheme, it doesn't really matter its not working and in a professional league based on Competition accountability falls on the HC.
The Falcons...from last season to this season...are night and day. The roster primarily remained intact...except for the significant change at QB & HB. My point is....Petrino failed with his coaching philosophy and the team wasn't winning......basically the same roster this year, but Smith has them winning. In conclusion....a coaching change doesn't necessarily mean that a franchise will be futile for the next 2 to 3 seasons. And in the Jets' case....we have the talent......just need a different coach to try a different approach. That's just my opinion....I see that you're a Mangini supporter..and you're welcome to that....i just don't agree with Mangini's approach.
My only case would be that Coughlin did a much worse job than Mangini did with the Giants and he constantly had players calling him out for being outcoached. Then they get hot and it's all history from there.
With the schedule we have next year and our love affair with the 3-4 I give us a minimal chance at winning 7 games.
well my argument is in regards to Mangini being fired as coach but not being fired from the organization. He and tannenbaum have put together some really really good draft classes so I think it could be wise to keep Mangini along in the personell department and have him help out during the off season
The only case I can make for not firing Mangini is he appears to have exceptional prowess at chewing gum.
The PSL's...can we stop acting like people won't buy these things? Everyone here knows they'll sell. They're PSL's and this is America...you REALLY think the Jets will have problems selling these things?
Do you have a clue at what's going on in businesses around the Metro area. The mall they are building may well fail.
Here is the case: The team was a mess last year at 4-12. We would have taken 8-8 this year. Those expectations rose with Favre's signing == but he has been bad the last 4 weeks. Therefore, Mangini will either win 9 or 10 -- with a bad QB. How many other 9-10 coaches will be fired this year? None. They have won 9-10 with good wins over good teams. The defensive philosphy has to change -- and Sutton is gone. Romeo would be No. 1 on that list -- and will only help. (Think back to the last time the Jets changed coordinators.). Also, the offense will be back -- and the defense will be back -- with a chance to get a playmaker at LB (I hope).
True, how much of this is Rhodes adjusting to being the only deep safety on the team? He's used to playing close to the line, but Elam's skillset is that of a guy who can't cover deep, but CAN play close to the line. Does it suck for Rhodes? Sure, a little. But he's a big reason why we don't get killed on the deep ball this year. I realize team motivation is part of a coaches job, but if players can't motivate themselves to play well after starting 8-3...I mean shit that blames going to get thrown all on coaches? And it should fall at least partially on the players. Mangini, Schotty, and even Sutton never even touch the ball on Sundays, yet on this board they're the only ones with problems. Maybe we should start holding our players accountable?
Just one thing on Romeo... I haven't seen too many Cleveland games this year, I avoided most of the primetime games they were in due to them sucking, but has their defense been at least agressive. I know their offense really struggles because of all of the injuries to the QB's, but how has their defense looked?
The only reason why we have that many wins is because Tanny brought in a lot of FA acquisition in the off season. Had nothing to do with Mangina.
In his first year as a HC, kind of like Mangini. Ever notice that new coaches tend to win alot of games early nowadays? I know. We've been not futile for 3 years under Mangini, but fans live in a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world. But we saw that in '06, when a n00b coach took over an aging roster. We saw that in '08 when that n00b HC built up one of the best Jets rosters we've seen in years, jumped to an 8-3 lead, beat two top teams in row...on the road. You think Smith's time with the Falcons is going to be all sunshine and gum drops? Or Sparano's in Miami? Understandable, but in the end firing him makes 0 sense unless he's actually lost the roster. And I'm not talking fan speculation on a message board lost the roster...when a coach loses the roster everyone knows he's lost the roster.
Because Woody doesn't operate that way. A coach "leaves" the Jets on his own by their choice. That would Groh and Edwards. Woody never really "fires" anybody and he only hires rookie candidates with no prior HC experience. I guess they're easy on the payroll or something. The only way Mangini is leaving is if Mangini decides to. Woody ain't gonna do a damn thing but sit back and watch the PSL receipt count and Tanny is Fatboy's pal. It is what it is...
I thought we couldn't sell...PSL's...why does this stuff change whenever it's convenient too? Before Mangini was going to get fired because Woody would have to do something to sell PSL's. Plus, Edwards was chased out. I'm pretty sure he was going to be fired either way.
I think he got plenty of credit in '06, and even earned a false moniker! I agreed at the time, but where has he /they (as in CS) gone? Last year was his pass. This year, it's not because they have lost 6 games so far, but HOW they've lost 6 games so far! Passing against teams that can't stop the run and vice versa. There's no identity and there's definitely been no passion the last 1/4 of the season. The positive in keeping him is that he's a better roster builder than Hermway was, and 2006 is a feather in his cap but if there's a better proven candidate willing to take the job, adios "mangenius"
I want Tanny to pick the coordinators, not Mangini. If that's the case then he should get another shot
