I wish, but sadly I don't hate you guys like I used to, I would rather your team in the playoffs 1,000 times over the Pats here I'll try, "ggrrhhh, Ricky Williams is a loser pothead, Channing Crowder kicks kittens, absolutely terrible excuse for the humans race the Dolphins are" On the debate, as of right now I would go D'Brick as I like his pass blocking better at the LT position, but after season two for Long it would be up in the air as you never know about a sophomore slump
Wolfe...I was SO pissed you guys went and lost the damned seatle game. My consolation was if we lost the game, at least the patsies didn't win again... Now we have to win. Nasty.. Jake for me, because "Long is a big, angry, drooling, head snatching force." thanks TJ
I like it, but it has been a very different style offense Long is playing in so it is a bit hard to judge against the more predictable I mean traditional style that D'Brick is playing in, Long has done alot of run blocking this year within the Wildcat and it has been great, but the opposing defense often has troubles reading the plays which would work to Long's advantage. Again coaching in you neck of the woods as played a big factor in his development and ability to ease right in with less growing pains. I think Long will be more well rounded in his career and D'Brick will be more one-dimensional, I just like that one dimension a bit better at the left tackle position for a passing offense. For running I would love the ability to run on each side interchangeably making Long the pick, I guess it all depends on preferance of style as I think they are both great players
So you think Brick is far ahead of Jake in pass blocking then, huh? I mean, if you thought they were pretty close in pass blocking, Jake's run blocking would easily tip the scales, no? So you think Brick is head and shoulders a better pass blocker then, huh?
as of right now yeh, and in the foressable future, he is built better for it in case of the speed rushers, in the long hall the smaller stature will keep him at a level where he can maintain great mobility in the first step back. If I was a run first coach then I would pick Long as my LT, but for me I am more pass orentated so I would take D'Brick
I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, but also remember that this is D'Brick's first year with a competent OL coach working with him. Just imagine if we had Calahan working with the OL for the past two years, I think D'Brick would be even better.
I think that Jake Long is going to be a stud LT for years to come. Brick has played very, very well this year. He is just not quite the complete package as Long appears to be. You never know though. Joe Thomas had an incredible rookie season then took a step back his second year. Same is true for Marcus McNeil.
I dont see any possible way you can say that Brick is head and shoulders a better pass blocker than Jake. I dont even see how you can say Brick is better than Jake in Pass Pro. Jake has allowed less sacks w/ pretty much the same exact schedule. In fact, Jake faced even harder match ups w/ the 2 flex games that we had against Ravens(Suggs - 8 sacks) and Texans(Mario - 11 sacks) vs. what you had w/ the Titans(Vanden Bosch - 4.5 sacks) and Bengals(Odom - 2 sacks). So what are you basing your opinion off of that Brick is head and shoulders better than Jake in Pass Pro? I mean, hes been a turnstile the past 2 years... and while he is having a very good year in pass pro this year, I still dont think hes been better than Jake has been in his ROOKIE year... Also, you mention Brick's smaller stature will help keep him more mobile in the future? Brick is 6'6 312lbs... and Jake is 6'7 310lbs. Its not like Jake is some tubby lineman that is going to be slow... the dude has Abs, lol! Hes lean. I mean, hes a monster, but he is lean...
Honestly, Long is going to be great, and Brick (and I'm saying this for the first time) will be great too. Brick could become one of the best at defending the pass, but Long will dominate is run blocking. I like my QB's blind side protected, so I voted Brick with green shaded glasses. Sue me.
On our team, Id say Brick. The rest of our line is better at run blocking than pass blocking. Most of our big runs are between moore and woody anyways. We need a better pass blocking line, so I choose Brick.
i would say because brick is a better pass blocker, but then youll just respond that long has allowed less sacks this year. which is apparently the end all comparison between pass blockers.
Well no...I think D'Brick is legitimately better as a pass blocker and will remain so for the rest of his career. Long is kind of aided by the Dolphin's offensive system as a whole...which is why I'm not sure what he'll look like next year and so on. Pennington knows that offense better than Favre knows ours, we pass more, Pennington doesn't hold the ball as long as Favre does, and theres probably other factors I'm not even listing...Fasano's a good blocker as a TE...is Long always left on an island by himself?
No complaints regarding Brick's performance this year. He's been pretty solid. But when you compare Brick's first year in the league to Jake Long's it's clear as day that Long will be the franchise tackle we all hoped Brick would be.
Well, all I'm asking you to do is break them down. Specifically, what does Brick do better technique wise? What have you seen from Jake in his pass pro that you dont like? Specifically, what moves do you feel Jake struggles w/ compared to Brick? Break Long down, or break Brick down... or something! I'm just asking for more than "Brick is a better pass blocker b/c I say so". Bring some meat to the table and backup your statements!!! Lets make this an insightful football debate...
What about our offensive system aids Jake? Its Tackle friendly? As far as you passing more, we are actually very close to each other... as we both are pretty balanced. You've only attempted 22 passes more than the Fins (about 1.5 more per game), and we've only ran it 18 more times than you have (about 1 more time per game)... so I'm not sure how much that really is a factor. And yes, Long has been left on an island from Week 1 against you guys...
