I hear people saying: We’ve got 7 pro-bowlers, we should be in the playoffs, some argue that the defence isn’t aggressive enough. For me Mangini is right where is thought he would be, on track. Apparently this team still won 9 games this year... And there were a couple of big wins amongst them. People raved about Arizona, New England, Tennessee, but we beat them all, and we beat them with performances of the coolest authority. But I'll remember this season as one in where the Jets, had great games against solid opposition, whilst not caring against the lesser teams. A Classical re-building syndrome, that happens in all sports. I mean, Jets just aren't that solid as a top-team should be. We are going from 4-12 season to 9(10) wins this year. That’s a fairly good turnaround. The roster on all three sides is still not complete. There are a lot of things that we can improve on, but there are also things we have improved on from last year. The new O-line doesn’t look that bad. The Brett thing went okay I guess. We should have kept Pennington, but I wonder, if we had kept Chad onboard, would we have won against the lesser teams and imploded in the end anyways? One thing is for sure, measured strictly against last season, Mangini has improved. We have a winning record. If the draft goes well, and the roster is improved in right areas, this team can make the playoffs next year, hopefully with something real to play for. Concerns should be voiced around the QB-spot. What to do? Get Matt Cassel? Give Keller (EDIT: Clemens) a shot? Don’t know, but it sure is possible to win the SB without the best QB in the league. But I think with regards to next year, we are in good shape. If Mangini got the boot, we would only reverse the positive process, and would have to wait another 3-4 years before we have a team ready. Mangini would not be the only one to go. A couple of coaches, and some players. the new guy would get his players, implement his schemes, the players would have to adjust, all-kinds of things would have to change. And I think its a premature decision to make a this stage. If it makes you feel better, a football-game for me is won between the lines, and we have two quality lines. Give the core group of players, and this head-coach one more year, and let’s talk about it then. :raiders:
A new DC will come in and institute this crazy thing some teams use called... the Blitz He'll look like a genius.
The only reason why we went from 4-12 to 9-6 right now is because Tanny brought in a ton of free agents. Had NOTHING to do with Mangina. Only thing he showed is that he can't coach the talent he has and is not HC material. Only way I take him back is as a ball boy.
Mangini equals the playing field for all the teams with less talent to beat the Jets, I hope he stays.
we made it over .500 because of our easy sched that we didn't take advantage of. We face the AFC and NFC south next year, we don't have a shot at .500
I don't know if I'd chalk it up to more luck (Buffalo strip sack, just barely beating MIA) than the acquisition of the FA's. Other than Faneca and Woody, there's a strong argument that the 2nd half-of-season play of the others has been quite underwhelming- yes, I'm including Jenkins and Pace in the shitacular group (along with Franks, Favre, Law).
Mangini is not going anywhere. He's signed, Woody is building a stadium, and in this economy there is zero chance Woody is going to start with a new contract for a coach when this guy won 9 or 10 games and had 2 out of 3 winning years.........even though he blows.
We whipped the best team in the AFC south in their building. We have no idea how we turn out next year, make a few changes on the staff, get better QB play and we should still be a playoff contender.
Agreed. And there is completely no reason Mangini deserves to stay. Remember that whole "3 year plan" bullshit he sold when he came here. Well, year 3 is almost over. It's time for change. See the sig.
First off barely beating Miami in Miami i dont want to hear it.. A win is a win and we never trailed against a team that could win the division.. And wtf did you expect from Pace?? he had a career high 6.5 sacks last year and now has 7.. He never was a star just a solid player..
There was absolutely no excuse for the initial MIA score to be as close as it was. New coach, Chad wasn't playing anywhere near the level he's playing at now, new players, coming off a terrible season- we nearly gave them that game on a silver platter. WTF did I expect from Pace? How about more of what I saw in the preseason and a few games into the regular season- consistent pressure on the QB, closing lanes, tackles behind the line. I'm not looking for a sack monster but don't try and sell me on the fact that his first half and second half of this season serve in stark contrast to one another.
We also were on the road in the hot Florida heat where Miami has thrived for years and we had a QB who was here for less than a month. Miami had a similar ituation at QB BUT Chad played in henning's system and was used to change. We dominated play most of the day, our K getting hurt really hurt us and our new QB in his first game couldn't get a few 1st downs to ice the game which was understandable week 1.
No excuses- we barely beat a sub-par team, before the even rolled out their "Wildcat" game plan- that's it. I don't buy the "heat" argument. There were players on both sides who had not played in such heat before, yet one team was able to overcome it- Chad hadn't seen such conditions on a routine basis during his tenure in NY- Jake Long surely hadn't, etc. etc. This team has given away games that we should have won this year, and barely won some others. It just doesn't make any sense when you consider that we beat NE and blew the doors off of Tenn and Ariz.
That subpar team is in 1st place and has a better record than us. Say what you want about Miami but they are a quality team and we beat them on the road.
No, you're misreading me. I'm giving them all the credit in their world for the turnaround- I think that it's great. What I'm saying is that in the first game of the season they were playing equally flat, unmotivated, mistake-ridden football. I simply think that we had the talent to win that game with a higher point differential than we saw. Miami in the first few games wasn't playing very inspiring football, which serves in stark contrast to the other 2/3 of their season.
