Did you see twice yesterday -- once with Rhodes -- and the other Lowry (??) -- that they stopped before they got to wallace. Both times. THey were going to kill him -- and they stopped.
I'd swear that on numerous plays plays this year I have seen Jets defensive players actually look for contact (blockers) rather than try to get to the QB / ball carrier.
The Rhodes one pissed me off. Tackle the f***ing guy, don't stand there and dance. This team plays with no killer instinct.
he looked like it was drilled into his head, contain, contain contain, instead of kill kill kill, the Jets players instinct is shattered, they are tought to overthink everystep instead of just reacting
The team has QUIT on this coach. If I were a Jet player, I would request a trade as long as Mangina is the coach. HE SUCKS.
It seems our players are so inexperienced at blitzing that they've forgotten how to do it correctly. Is there anyone on this defense that wants to bring down the hammer on opposing QB's? Are they even allowed to?
They don't. Its a pathetic but its very true. This lack of passion has to be greatly attributed to poor coaching.
In case anyone missed, there was snow covering the field which probably made it almost impossible for players to cut hard. It totally neutralized Leon Washington. What the Jets should've been doing is sending bullrushes right up the gut.
honestly id have to say this was because of the snow. they are coming full speed around the corner and have to make a quick turn to get to the qb.. not easy with 6 inches of snow on the ground
6 inches; there wasn't even 6 cm. NE played in horrible conditions and Cassel threw for over 300 yards; something Favre hasn't done this year, and they sent the Cardinals packing with a pummeling. No excuses!!!!!!!!!!!
You really think there was six inches of snow on the ground? Nah not in the game I was watching. This can't be the case because Seattle looked like they were coming at full speed pretty often when they blitzed. The Jets LOOKED like they were coming into a backfield with 6 inches of snow on the ground but it wasn't the case. It was just that bad of an attempt to blitz. But hey, when you blitz about 5-10 times all season, maybe you forget what to do
When you always play a backpedal style defense blitzing isn't something that comes natural anymore. The Steelers and Ravens MO is blitzing. Our MO is backing off the defense 8 yards at a time in order to avoid giving up the "big play".
We are worlds apart from these 2 teams. These teams have some top notch talent on defense but regardless of players, their defensive philosophy is always the same, aggressive, smash mouth defense. I would rather give up an occasional big play than get picked apart and knocked around all game long. Watching both the blitzes where the guys hesitated to go after the QB really had me pissed, even my girlfriend asked me what the hell they were doing....I said maybe they think they are still at practice and forgot its gametime!
We just can not fuckin blitz. Saneca wallace had all day to throw the ball. 3 man rush would ALL be double teamed. Thats 6 players cover 3. Then the QB. They had 4 guys running routes on several players and we had 8 guys covering them. Double coverage on ALL the WRs and they still get WIDE OPEN. Fuckin pathetic day yesterday.
