Follow me on this. I came up with this only using players already on this roster. This is the way I believe the Jets Defense should be in '09. Just follow me on this.

    Scheme

    4-3

    Defensive Line

    Vernon Gholston (LE)
    Kris Jenkins (DT)
    Sione Pouha (DT)
    Sean Ellis (RE)

    Linebackers

    Calvin Pace (OLB)
    David Harris (MLB)
    Abram Elam (OLB)

    Cornerbacks

    Darrel Revis
    Ty Law

    Safetys

Dwight Lowery (Yes, move the man to Safety).
    Kerry Rhodes.

    Coach

    ???

    Thoughts?

No Ty Law! Not sure about Elam at OLB, but I like Lowery at safety

    it's **sione** pouha.
    elam isn't an OLB.
law isn't a starting calibur CB.
    wouldnt mind lowery at S.

i'd rather stick with the 3-4 and get a coach or DC with some fire in him. enough of this conservative bull

I know Elam isn't a Linebacker, but I believe he could play it.

James Harrison is the same height as Elam, and plays LB for the Steelers. Thing is, Elam is small as far as weight goes. Maybe if he puts on 20 pounds. There's no doubt Elam can lay some hard hits on people. That's probably one of the good things we've seen this season. Also, he is fast coming in from the outside blitz. Perfect for LB Blitz situations, which is what would help this teams pass rush. We saw what he did in the Meadowlands last week against Buffalo.

Cowher would be nice. But in all seriousness, we all know Mangini will finish out his contract. The only chance we have is for Tanny to bring in someone who knows more about football than Mangini does (Which shouldn't be hard), as Defensive Coordinator.

On a side note, I see you changed your Sig, lol.

I'm not against Lowery at Safety but I dont know about Elam at LB and I dont know about starting Pouha on the D-Line. I would like to see another CB brought in here as well. I could live with Law being on this team but I dont want him starting at CB opposite Revis.

I started the same thread last week and got crucified--As I stated last week, WE GET ABSOLUTELY NO PASH RUSH WITH OUR 3-4. Did anyone notice our # of sacks today? Zero. It's ok--Mangini thinks Bryan Thomas is a star.

Make we can put together a package deal. Thomas and Smith, for a 3rd or 4th Rounder.

actually i don't think our personnel is that bad. it's just that our defensive scheme SUCKS. we really don't want to create that much pressure, from the looks of it.

if we had the PIT/BAL/DAL defensive coordinator, who actually show complexity in their defensive gameplanning and stress getting QB pressure with their blitz packages and stunts, i think we'd see a real difference here. even with the current personnel we have on the team.

Yeah, I agree. But we really need a coach with some balls. Plus I think Gholston would shine in the 4-3

Yes, and drop Jenkins back into coverage. Worked for me once.
