I wonder if we could have traded up to get Ryan. Rather than trade for Favre. Ah well, too late to think about that now.
This smells of revisionism. A) It requires hindsight to know how good Ryan was going to turn out to be. B) We picked up Favre well after the draft. It wasn't an either/or situation.
mcoy is a 2010 draft pick.we might be in position then if favre leaves 2009 k.c./ratliff qb if they don't workout what will we be?8-8 at best probably around 6-10 2010 qb of the future i.e mccoy get it?
I don't think you know what revisionism is. Re-read my post again. Also, every pick in the draft requires "hind sight" to know how good someone will be in a point in time in the future, yet people still draft players every year. That's because you have a scouting department and you get players you PROJECT will be good. Ryan was a highly touted prospect, so it's not like he's a Tom Brady or something that nobody ever heard of or had reason to consider. If we were in the market to get a QB, the draft would have been a better idea. I don't think the idea was ever to let Chad be the QB if they could help it, and KC has pretty much proven he can't be a starting QB so far, and the CS has shown very little confidence in him. Knowing those facts, drafting a QB isn't a terrible idea. That's why I said I wondered, it probably wasn't an option but who knows. Trading down and taking Flacco was another idea. I don't think we wanted the #6, but I doubt anybody else really wanted it either. We weren't about to trade with the Pats, and the Pats probably used smokescreens to get us to take Gholston anyway.
When was the last time a rookie played at a near pro bowl level and/or took a team to the playoffs? Drafting a QB to play the next year is typically a re-building process. Atlanta and Baltimore got amazingly lucky this year. To bring up the idea that Ryan and Favre were equal in the June/July time frame is crazy. One is a rookie the other a future HOF QB coming off a pro-bowl/conference championship appearance year. I know which way I'm going each and every year with that equation.
I actually thought about that a few weeks back but never said anything about it. I wouldnt mind getting Donnie in JET Green, at least until we can get a QB through the draft that would be our definite Franchise QB
