Thomas stinks--he always has--but like Dslob there are those who will defend that draft pick and resigning forever--As for Gholston, IMO he better play EVERY defensive snap in preseason next year to see if he has it--if not take the cap hit after 2 years and move him.

It's way too late in the season to put Gholston to do anything. Let him go play some Madden. He is useless on teh field. Let someone who can contribute on the active roster.

Someone please answer this question, because I haven't been able to see every minute of every game: Has Gholston made a single, clean, hard tackle, either on D or on ST, all year?

To be fair, isn't Thomas playing a different position from the position he played in 2006, right before he got his fat new contract?

I would like to see gholston play some pass rushing snaps against the phins to go against long, its obvious he has not transitioned well to the nfl but maybe him going against another rookie who's he's gone against b4 will give him some fire and he can record his first sack of the year and boost his confidense

Gholston will not start...unless there's a significant injury to one of the other LB's....so there's no use talking about it.

If anything...he should've been more utilized in straight pass-rushing situations...but we all know he's hasn't shown anything to Mangini all year on the practice field (till recently apparently) to dictate such a move.

we'll have to wait till next year to see if VG will pay dividends for this team.

Mangini, or someone at the Jets did Vilma a favor by having have that knee surgery he needed last year. The surgery takes more than a single offseason to recover from and Vilma needed the surgery for years. When the Jets realized the '07 season was hopeless they told Vilma this was the year he was going to go under the knife, I think in the long run that is going to help his career.

why is this even a conversation? no gholston shouldnt start, no gholston shouldnt play, no gholston shouldnt be active.

i really doubt that all of a sudden he knows how to play football.

I think we should worry about Gholston being good enough to be activated for the games before worrying about him being good enough to start.

Somebody name a bigger bust for the Jets than Gholston..ever. Johnny Lam Jones played. Blair Thomas played. Neither were deactivated in their rookie year or any other year that I am aware of and they both sucked.

Biggest bust in Jets history after 14 games? Ah..okay Don. Have you ever heard of Mike Haight? Johnny Lam and Blair Thomas were the No. 2 pick in their drafts and were not considered busts after 14 games. In fact Blair Thomas actually had a decent rookie season and his future looked very bright. So it may be wise for you to hold off on calling him a bust just yet. k?

Sounds like he had a good week of practice. It's going to get better for Gholston. I have no worries yet.

Can't have two Free Safety's on your team, but having Ed Reed definitely would have been nice!

People are too funny first they make a thread complaining about BT's play on the field then when they offer a solution its like its to late in the season for an experiment... Let's just keep getting passed on and ran on.. Sometimes all it takes is a shot for a player sitting on the bench to bloom into a star but he must be given a shot first..would brady be brady if he wasn't given a chance.

2007 BT was moved to the strong side and had to contend with the TE, which some pointed to as the cause for his 'off year'.

2008 BT was moved back to the weak side (Pace picked up the strong side) so this move, plus his 'epiphany', gave cause for hope.

shit in one hand, hope in the other, see which one fills up first.

I'm of the same opinion, but I definitely wouldn't start him. The option shouldn't even be on the table.

I would put him in on all out blitz packages, and just let him concentrate on getting to the QB.
Only problem is, our defensive coordinator never heard the word "blitz", before.

Or how about Ron Faurot, the 15th pick overall in the 1984 draft? Two sacks in 20 games for the Jets and then he was out of the NFL.

If he can't do the job in practice during the week he doesn't deserve to start on Sunday.

Anyone who calls any player a bust after 14 games is a fool.
