Let me start off by saying that he has been a disappointment so far this year. I have not seen his performance in practice and he is not progressing at the speed we would all have hoped for. However, he has to be better than Bryan Thomas. I am sorry, I know some of you like him, but I have not been more disappointed in a player this year. He started off amazing..4.5 sacks in 5 games. Since then..not a single sack. Not even a half sack!!! This guy disappears in games in games and I think Gholston would eventually do a better job if given the opportunity. Before answering, please don't give me the excuse that we use BT in coverage more, because he sucks in coverage even worse. In 3 years playing OLB in the 3-4, he has recorded ZERO interceptions and only 3 pass defenses. We can seriously do without this guy and I think we should give the rookie the chance to play a full game before judging him on 4 plays per week.

The Jets coaches see way more than we do. I trust that they have assessed who is better, and BT is their choice. There's no way fans can make an assessment as to who is better based on the games they see. What possible motive could management have for not starting VG over BT? Everyone wants to see VG succeed.

I agree put the guy into a pressed situation instead of garbage time and when the game is already decided.

I think if we weren't in the playoff push Gholston would be playing a lot of snaps per game and maybe even starting...but they don't want to risk anything BT is a proven solid guy and gholston hasnt proven anything YET( i havent given up on him..just for this year)

well since he has done nothing but whiff tackles in those four games and blow an easy sack oppurtunity by not hustling (Denver) Gholston hasnt done anything to warrant giving him a shot HE WAS DE-ACTIVATED LAST WEEKEND! how many #6 overall picks (not QB's who were dubbed #3 for the season to promote development) have ever been made inactive? I dont know that answer but I am willing to bet a whole hell of a lot, Gholston is one of the very very few on the list. You dont deactivate a player making that much money unless he is a detriment to your team.

While I agree with you Bryan thomas is absolutely horrible, and he is one of the worst starting players on our team, maybe even the league, he doesnt deserve to lose his spot to gholston. That is not exactly because Thomas is lighting it up, more because Gholston has sucked that much ass. Now Marques Murrell on the other hand, should definately be given more snaps at OLB to see what he can become.

Mangina has an issue with Gholston and Murrell like he did with Vilma it seems. I heard today on the radio if the NYJETS dont make the playoffs Mangini is as good as gone.

well just because the radio stations believe mangini should be fired if we dont make the postseason, doesnt mean he will be. After a 4-12 season Woody garunteed him next year, so i doubt if he finishes 10-6 and misses the postseason by a game, that Woody fires him.

The strongest argument against Gholston starting is that, as bad as Thomas has been, Gholston still isn't starting. He must be having terrible showings in practice to not warrant any starting time. One of Mangini's strengths as a coach has been his willingness to use rookies; this has been pretty consistent throughout his coaching tenure. Gholston would start if he had done anything to show he might have a chance of being better than Thomas, he would start.

Today one reporter said that Gholston has his best week of practice this week.

They got Lowery at that pick. And they get a 3rd round pick in 2009.

I just think that a player like Gholsten could pay huge dividends if given some playing time. This guy played for Ohio State, not some average school that played against bad teams. This guy has played in big games and just needs the game experience to truly play to his potential. I agree that mangini has been good at playing rookies, but I think he has been bad at putting players in optimal positions to succeed and uses practice too much to assess players. I mean look at Leon, we all see every week that when Leon gets enough touches, we win. Yet how many carries did he get last week??

And youre right Jetsfan..I am just a fan, but I watch BT play every week and consistently do nothing. For a guy his size and with his talent level, he should be making plays every week. We are a 3-4 team and still haven't found our dominate 3-4 outside LB that can get to the QB like every other 3-4 has. I think this has A LOT to do with Sutton, but put Gholsten on the Pats, I bet he already has 12 sacks.

My sentiments exactly. Give Murrell a chance. Thomas is a lazy bum. He has the tools but won't give the effort. I'd rather have a guy going 100% than a more "knowledgable" guy going at 75%. And VG's had his chance. He's a lost cause.

wasn't BT like our first round pick as well?

anyway, with a limited 45 man roster, there is NO ROOM for a bench warming 3rd string 3-4 OLB wanna be.

the next 2 games are too important for an 'experiment'.

dance with the devil that brought ya.

yup. we took this bafoon over the likes of Ed Reed, Lito Sheppard and many other guys who were better than Thomas. Also shockingly enough, we had two starting DE's 2 years into their careers who we had assumed would be around for a decade, note that one has. Ellis and Abe. So why we picked thomas? I have no idea. but it haunts our franchise to this day, in my eyes, more so than even the D-rob deal did.

As i said before bring in Murrell let the man give it his all and see what he can bring to the table. Worst case: he is 75 times the ST player Gholston is/would be.

kerry rhodes and ed reed. the possibilities of what coulda been.........
no homo thats mad sexy, but really, we shouldn't be doing this hindsight thing.
we just gotta work with what we got right now, which is BT.

the most disappointing thing with BT is apparently, there was that article where he said he had that epiphany over the offseason; he promised to himself he wouldn't let what happened to him last year, in terms of work ethic and production, ever happen again. i'm not doubting he isn't putting in the work this year, but for whatever reason, he's really cooled down after sucha hot start to the year.

You're complaining about sacks when Gholston can't even get a freakin' tackle? C'mon!
