Doesn't watching the Steelers play just make you jealous?

It's funny how far on opposite sides of the spectrum it appears the Jets and Steelers' defense is. Whenever you watch the Jets on 3rd downs, doesn't matter if it's 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 20, you always expect the opposing team to convert. When you watch the Steelers, you always expect them to stop the team. I'm shocked most of the time when the opposing team gets a first down on the Steelers. They've done this also with probably the toughest schedule in all of football.

Take a look NY Jets players and coaches, that's the kind of defense that wins superbowls.

Well, they just have a shitload of talent. Joey Porter wouldn';t even be good enough to start had he stayed there, and hes got like 17 sacks!

The Steelers are what happen when you don't change your defensive scheme every 3 years.

damn, looking up, the Steelers have not allowed 300 yards of offense ALL season. That's ridiculous.

That D is loaded but the biggest reason they are that good is because of Dick LeBeau

I really do think most of you guys put too much emphasis on the coordinators. They are important, but as godly as you make it out to be. That D would still easily be top 5 with Sutton at the helm.

I got off the coordinators are everything thinking when Hackett left (who was awful, no doubt) and the offense was still the same crap.

Pittsburgh is dam good and I enjoy watching them. I will thoroughly enjoy watching the NYJETS kick their asses in the AFC Championship game.

Pittsburgh Steelers = not a pussy defense.

I've always liked this team due to their agressiveness. It's my kind of football.

No. I don't agree. The coordinators and coaching in the NFL, in my opinion, is ALMOST as important as the players. Now obviously, you need good players to win. Absolutely. And players can overcome bad coaching. I mean, even Barry Switzer couldn't sabotage the 3-headed monster in Dallas. But, unless you have elite talent, COACHING is what separates the middle level-talent teams. There is such a slim margin for error and schemes are just so important. Football really is like a chess match, moreso than any other sport. In basketball, you can play zone or man to man. In football, you can do soooooooo many more things on the field.

For instance, if Jim Johnson was coaching the Jets, I can guarantee more wins. We'd not only blitz more, we'd blitz more effectively, with more precision and with wayyy more disguises. Do the Eagles really have a front 7 that's more talented than the Jets? Maybe, but I'm not sure it's nearly as much as it looks on the field. That's coaching.

Defensively it certainly does. They are extremely aggressive and make opposing QBs look miserable as a result.

I wish our coaching staff would take a couple hints..

I disagree. You honestly don't think we'd have a better D (beginning with better disguising, stunts, and zone blitzes) with Dick Lebeau calling our defensive plays? I think the talent is here, it's just that I don't think we've utilized these guys to the best of their abilities.

I couldn't agree more with this post and specifically the second paragraph. And its so true and extremely frustrating just thinking about it. Eh, it's just a game for us fans though so what can we do?

Jets fans overrate their players so much. This defense has more holes then a block of swiss cheese. Their is only 3-4 players on this defense who are good. The rest are nothing more then average/below average type players. Their really isn't much any coordinator can do with linebackers who can't rush the QB or cover tight ends. The numbers speak for themselves. This is a not a championship caliber defense.

if the blitzes weren't so vanilla and predictable, they'd have some more success pressuring QBs.

    Pussy playcalling doesn't help.

Thank you. That's my opinion too. The defense looked ok earlier in the year because Jenkins was ungodly. Now, he's worn down and it's clear that everybody else except Revis is pretty crappy.

Before it was we didn't blitz enough. Now, it's "our blitzes are too simple!" It's not that, it's that our linebackers are shit. Could better coaching help the defense? Yes. Could it alter its fundamental state of mediocre? No.

We dont even blitz well unless we bring the house. How many times do you see us blitz only to have a CB wiff on the QB or get easily blocked by a RB. I think we should blitz more, dont get me wrong, but the players have to execute better on the rare blitz's that are actually called.

I think we rush three to often. But just because we rush three shouldn't always mean giving up 25 yard chunks. And it wouldn't happen if more than one of those 8 guys dropping back could cover.

I have seen the CBs miss. I know Lowery missed Hill in SF, but most of the Blitzes seem to be a "beat the guy in front of you" blitz. That doesn't work all the time unless you have a Ware, Porter, or Harrison. The Jets need to confuse an OL once in a while. They don't do it.

Bob Sutton is not the problem its the one and only Pillsbury dough boy Mangina! I think he is getting fatter by the minute! He is a clueless control freak! Bring on Cowler and lets get defensively aggressive like an East coast football team should be!
