It's certainly not where we need it to be but we are losing as a team here. The O has alos been awful, at least if one of those 2 phases was working I'd feel better. It wasn't the worst D performance, it wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. They were constantlt put in bad spots w/ TOs and poor STs but they still found a way to make the game's biggest play and keep us in it by creating TOs then sealing it late despite the ineffectiveness of the O. Defensively we are a long way away from where we need to be but our D won us the game yesterday- that's how bad our O was in that 2nd half.
by week 15...if the defense isn't "there" yet....pushing the panic button shouldn't be far behind. And I'll agree with you about the "O" too....they're still making mistakes...but at least they're still putting up points with the ground game. Mistakes we wouldn't be talking about if the Defense would put up some more "3 and outs".
They couldn't tackle my dead grandmother on first contact yesterday. It was pathetic. Which defensive performance was worse this year? The D made the play that won us the game, no doubt, but they looked awful for most of the game.
Fred Jackson must be the greasiest guy on the Bills squad...because the guy couldn't be tackled...same for that freak of nature Lynch.
He carried 5 or 6 Jets a few yards into the endzone. Pathetic. How about the screen play to lynch? There were 3 or 4 arm tackle attempts. WTF. They better be doing some heavy tackling drills this week. Harris and Revis need to give some lessons on how to tackle.
I think the Jets fan base is proving to be beyond embarrassing this week I can't believe all the garbage threads... With that being said, Our D has been real rocky lately for sure. But it has proved that if it is running on all cylinders it can be IMO one of the top 7 in the league. It has strung together a couple bad weeks, so a turnaround is on the horizon I feel. Our CB are the obvious weakness, and I think next year (jumping ahead) the Jets main priority will be to secure a good #2CB.
Sutton too, he's the worst DC I've ever seen in any football level, pro, college, pop warner, you get the picture.
It was embarrassing.....hopefully they work on some pass-rushing drills too....although, i'm not sure those are in Sutton's defensive playbook.
The O scored 17 against a Denver D that averages giving up 26 a game, the O scored 14 against a SF D that averages giving up 24 PPG. That's not exactly putting up points. That';s the first time they have had that problem all year but our O has been inconsistent all year and unless our D creates TOs they don't score. It's a problem when our D outscores our O in the 2nd half of a close game like what happened on Sunday.
That's fine, the offense played shitty in the 2nd half, I'm not disagreeing with you. They also started 3 drives in the second half inside the 20 and 2 inside the 5. It doesn't change the fact that it was our worst defensive outing of the season. It was embarrassing. I don't know how you can argue this.
It wasn't even close to out worst defensive outing of the season, it wasn't a bad outing at all when you factor everything in. The awful FP they had to deal w/ all day, the turnovers, the poor STs then they made a play to give us the lead and had to stop buf TWICE after that and did so each time. It's not all about the D, the D has not played well in recent weeks but the O has been as bad, if not worse. To only score 3 2nd half points w/ the FP our O had was inexcusable, the D outscored our O in the 2nd half!
Again, I'm not arguing the offense was bad in the second half. I NEVER said it was all about the D. I think we were watching different games. The defense looked atrocious for most of the game to me. I cannot recall a game this season where we were completely dominated at the LOS on defense and/or tackled as poorly as we did on Sunday. I guess we just disagree.
17 of the 27 points scored by Buf were guft wrapped for them w/ great FP. I never said the D played well but they werent' bad either, you have to counbt what they did to win the game too.
Junc, The Jets run defense let up over 5.5 YPC (on 30 carries) to the Bills. They couldn't tackle the RB all day. This past game and the Denver game were the worst run D I've seen all year from the Jets. The Jets couldn't stop Gore in the key situations against the Niners either. Their run "D" has been bad the last three weeks. They actually kept Losman in check for most of the day so I'd say that the pass defense was moderately effective (even though they gave Losman way too much time IMHO). Were guys open and Losman just couldn't find them? Only the people in the stands and the coaches tape can tell. On your point about the defense scoring more than the O in the second half you are technically correct and the offense did look bad - there is no denying that. However, just as you've blamed the offense for putting the defense in bad positions the special teams put the offense in a bad position a number of times in the second half. Also, if you look at the first TO it was the result of tipped ball on a high pass by the QB. It wasn't anything special (pressure, great CB play) that the defense did. And if you look at the game changing play it was obviously a bad call (coach) and bad play by the QB in that situation (even if it was a good blitz). All in all the defense has not been the better than the offense lately or throughout the year (no matter what you think of the job that Favre has done).
They had serious issues tackling against Denver as well. That is the first game I remember thinking the D was all around horrible.
In no way am I saying our D has been good so let's set that straight. I thinkt he D has been bad as well as the O and neither had been helping each other out until the D stepped up Sunday. We all know both sides of the ball can and need to play alot better. Hopefully that play o Sunday sparks them in the right direction.
