They didn't score early the previous 2 weeks. The D isn't playing well but neither is the O and if our O could do anything it would make life easier for the D. 2 TOs, bad Sts, almost all of Buf's points came from our mistakes on O and STs. We set them up for a great day but the D wouldn't let us lose.
I guess it was the "O" that made quarterbacks like Thigpen, Russell, Losman and Shaun Hill look like superstars? c'mon junc.... if the D showed up consistently....the Jets would've secured the AFC East by now. Sure we can stop the run....but when I could pass for 350 yards on that secondary..there's real problems
We got that run because the Bills put a play in that sucked. If they just kept on running, we would have lost.
I absolutely don't get why the Jet Defense is this bad. It makes no sense to me. Revis is an excellent corner. Rhodes is an above average safety. David Harris is an above average linebacker. Pace is a good player. Ellis and Barton are adequate. That alone should produce a decent defense. Their defense is abysmal. And it can't just be the defensive coordinator. Players play. The Jets make every QB look like Johnny Unitus. Now I realize that Lowery isn't exactly Champ Bailey. I realize that Ty Law isn't the Ty Law of 5 years ago speed wise. I realize that their linebackers, other then Harris are a little slow. But the other guys should be able to compensate for that and at least make it an average defense. Not this joke of a defense we have the privlege to watch every week.
-In the KC game we were in control until a Favre INT set up KC's 1st TD. Then we had the game in total control and Favre threw the INT for a TD. -Russell led Oakland to 13 points in 4 qtrs of football. -Losman played well most of the game yesterday, we had some good coeverage for a change and he was throwing some nice passes until the 4th qtr BUT all but Buf's final score was set up by INTs or poor STs. -Hill scorched us and our D was awful at SF but so was the O.Favre threw for 137 yds on 31 attempts which is brutal. The D has been better than the O most of the year. The D has been worse in recent weeks but overall this season the D isn't as bad as the #s b/c of all the bad situations our O has put them in. Remember this D now has scored 42 points for us and our O has given up 35. That's a 77 pt swing.
This thread is too kind! Offense: Once again we were dictated to , as to what was there for us. we looked desperate again , against a piss poor team (three weeks in a row) and ultimately our defense won this game. Field position: We started a lot of drives behind our 20 yard line. Special teams: Was Brad smith that much of a factor back there? Coaching : Oh my son (I'm older then him and an assistant coach) I have figured out that you don't actually coach. You let all your assistants and position coaches do all the adjusting ....Hey you call the time outs (2:06) left on the clock when your trying to run it down as much as possible. Defense: We are not ready for seattle , sorry if you think that bust yesterday was lucky , your dead wrong. Matt Hasselbeck will pick us apart point blank period! We better hope their defense is worse then our. I hate to be negative , but theres nothing to take away from that gift yesterday!
you do realize that our offense isn't JUST Brett Favre. Our Oline has done a complete 180 degrees from last season....we have the AFC's leading rusher....Leon Washington is a threat everytime he touches the ball. We're obviously a run-first offense.....so Favre's stats aren't going to be stellar.....and yeah, he throws his share of INT's...but he wins games. Our defense....has been killing us all year. We can stop the run (on occasion), but that's it. I only see 2 games where our defense was really dominant...and that's the Arizona game and the Tennessee game. Every other game, OUR defense kept our opponents in the game.
The D has been bad. There is no excuse for playing against JP Lossman and giving up 5.8 YPC almost 200 on the ground regardless of field position. Agreed the O has put the D in some bad spots but that's not an excuse for a one demensional team to run the ball right down the strength of our D like the Bills did yesterday.
The answer is pressure. We dont have fast LBs to get after the QB in a blitz and the other pressure from the front 3 is non existent. To compensate for slow players you need very creative blitzes and coverages and Sutton is not stepping up. Look at the Ravens, Eagles and Steelers, they have the most creative schemes each week and you never know who and from which side is coming. I wish we would blitz more because even if we got burned that would be better than watching the QB take have 7 seconds to pick us apart each week. Take some f'n chances. The fumble recovery was a blitz, do that at least 2-3 times a quarter next time.
I know the O isnt just Favre and I do realize we have a very good OL, great running game and very good receivers which is why I am frustrated w/ Fvare. I don't care about individual #s, he's not leading us to points. We had a great run fior a few weeks where he finally looked comfortable in the O but he has regressed the last 3 weeks. Our D kept us alive for most of the season. It won us the Miami game, kept us in the first NE game, set up the Ari game, won us the Cincy game, kept us in the Oak game, won us the KC game, won us both Buf games.
The Jets D has given up 319 points thru 14 games this season...that's in the bottom half of the league....19th worst i believe. Given our strength of schedule...that's horrible. The play is not consistent.....and that's gonna be our downfall in the playoffs...if we make it.
Our D hasn't given up 319 pts, you are adding in the points allowed by the O and STs which is 35. We are basically giving up a point more a game than Miami and a point less than NE and let's aslo not forget that this D has scored 42 points. You can't add in the 42 our D has scored(which everyone does) and discount the 35 our O has given up(which everyone does).
it's still bad, junc. I wonder if the Seahawks will give me 20 touches at HB next week....I'd probably get 130 yards with the way the Jets have been tackling lately.
Yesterday was our worst defensive performance of the year IMO. Did the defense make the play that won the game for us? Obviously they did. The defense looked more like the 2007 Jets D than the 2008 Jets D yesterday. The tackling was absolutely pathetic. It was pathetic to watch. The worst part about it is that we're going into week 16 getting worse instead of getting better. They now have only two weeks to get there shit together.
They didn't even do good until the final minutes, but still can't stop the run! They are the most finesse defense in the NFL. When I see the Ravens and Steelers defense, they want to hurt the offense, by tackling them hard, wrapping him up, and taking him down.
