He is an injury risk and every GM (probably Cashman included) had serious doubts about him. He is 40 pounds overweight and you don't lose weight as you get older. As somebody wrote the other day, he makes David Wells look anorexic. My hopes is he bails after 3 years. Best for the Yankees if he does.
There is a better chance he goes to Atlanta anyway. He is smart enough to realize he is better off in the pussy league where he came from.
Looks like the Cameron trade could still happen. I just hope the second player is not anybody anybody cares about. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/36024599.html "After an unexpected morning hiccup in negotiations, talks were back on track later Thursday for a trade that will send Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder Mike Cameron to New York for Yankees centerfielder Melky Cabrera. Asked to assess the status of negotiations, Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said there was "a strong possibility it could still happen." Perhaps as early as today, the deal could be completed, with the possibility of a second player going to the Brewers. Melvin said the financial aspects of the deal had been settled but talks continued on that second player coming from New York."
" To the Yankees, that was evidence that Pettitte was no longer worth $16 million per season, and for weeks they have let him consider a $10 million proposal, knowing he has no desire to pitch elsewhere. As the winter meetings broke up here Thursday, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman was trying to break the stalemate. On his way home, Cashman flew to meet with Pettitte in Texas, the latest stop in his off-season recruiting tour that has included visits with C. C. Sabathia in Las Vegas and California, Mark Teixeira in Washington and Ben Sheets here. If Pettitte wants to return, time may be running out." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/12/sports/baseball/12yankees.html?_r=1&ref=baseball
So much for that idea.... "An Internet report Thursday indicated that the Yankees had jumped back into the bidding for Teixeira, but a Yankees official shot that down, saying the only way the Bombers will make a legitimate run at the first baseman would be if they failed to sign another big-ticket pitcher. "Let's say we don't get Burnett or Lowe or any of the other big pitchers still out there, at that point, it would be a possibility," the club official said. "But it's highly unlikely." " Reading between the lines that would also mean they wouldn't go after Ramirez either as he would cost even more per year. They still need to add another legitimate bat though to offset losing Abreu and Giambi. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...yankees_focus_on_mike_cameron_as_aj_burn.html
no the bullpen wasn't the only problem for the Mets last year but if they had KRod and Putz in last years bullpen they win the division by at least 5 games and very possibly win the WS. At this point, no team has improved themselves more then the Mets.
They already have a Manny replacement. Jason Bay. Offensively he's close to what Manny was providing in Boston the last few years and when you factor in the defense and baserunning it more than makes up for it. Add in Teixeira and hopefully Saltalamaccia (if they come to their senses and give up Bowden) and the lineup is easily enough to win the division with the pitching the Sox have... Pedroia Drew Ortiz Teixeira Bay Youkilis Saltalamaccia Lowrie Ellsbury Ortiz says he's healthy, but I admit he is a question right now due to the wrist. Beckett however is completely healthy. You've mentioned him twice now as an injury question, but there is no need for it. He had an injury that requires nothing more than rest to heal, and he rested. No surgery needed, nothing. He's fine.
Lol, is that why Yankee fans continuously bring up the Mets in response to a Mets fan questioning the Yanks moves?
Why do Mets fans insist on invading the Yankees threads incessantly? Especially to make wholly irrelevant comments about how much they hate the Yankees and hope everything they do crumbles around them. Let's not pretend that the vast majority of Mets fans on this site are coming into Yankees threads for a serious discussion. It's sad that Red Sox fans can discuss the Yankees in a civil manner, but so many Mets fans can't. How many Yankees fans are posting that troll shit in Mets threads? It's one thing to see 17a in here joking around. It's a whole different story for other posters though. (And there are other Mets fans who actually participate in conversation, LTS being the first name that comes to mind, so no offense to those who are trying to actually participate.) Again, Yankees fans don't give a shit that no matter who the Mets sign, they'll still end the season missing the playoffs by a single game. Lament your failures in your own threads. Don't waste pages of ours.
I didn't realize you were the authority on who and where people are allowed to post. BTW who are these Mets fans that "troll" the Yankees threads? I have seen a bunch of Mets fans post in the Yankees threads because they enjoy talking about baseball. Just because they don't paint the rosy picture that you do doesn't mean they are trolling. There are an equal amount of Mets and Yanks fans that troll each others threads. Get off your high horse, this is a public message board which gives the right to post in whichever thread one chooses to post in.
Beckett has a history of injuries. He escaped them for a couple of years and last year it came back. That's why I have mentioned it twice. Granted, a lot was due to blisters but he still only averaged about 23 starts a year before getting to Boston. Or put another way, he has 193 starts in 8 years. Burnett has 191 starts in the last 8 years.
The injuries aren't comparable. Beckett suffered blisters, which were largely resolved when he came to Boston. Last year was a strained oblique, which isn't a chronic injury. Burnett has suffered chronic shoulder injuries until this past year. Beckett's problem last year wasn't as much injury as it was his general approach. In 2007, he came in to camp ripped. 2008 he didn't. The effect is the same as injury, but it's more easily fixed.
I just went into the Mets offseason thread for the first time, figuring I'd shut you up by telling you how there were no Yankees fans in there, but I was wrong. I didn't bother going past the first page, but of the names I saw, none contribute to this thread at this point. Whatever. As for my "high horse" you responded to a comment I made: To which you responded: The only reason any Yankees fan says a single word about the Mets in this thread is in response to Mets fans. If no Mets fan posted in here, I highly doubt you could search this thread for the word "Mets" and find a single post. We don't give a shit about your franchise. Have fun competing till September again next year!
That's an interesting stat actually. I didn't realize that. I'd still take an injury-prone Beckett over an injury-prone Burnett though. Even if what SJ said in response to you wasn't the case. I have to be honest, the more I consider it, the less I want Burnett. I'd rather get Sheets and Pettitte, and of course Teixeira. I'm even souring on the Cameron deal.
