I can understand the Brewers refusing to pay any of the salary, but if they're going to demand a second player for a $10M strikeout machine, they can bite it.

I also remembered something that doesn't quite fit right now. The Brewers were telling people they wouldn't do anything with the Yankees this winter because of the initial Sabathia offer. So why the about face? Clearly they're just trying to fleece us. Either take Melky for Cameron straight-up, or piss off Brew Crew.

How do you let go of the Melk Man (GOT MELK?) for a mediocre center fielder? Any player good enough for his own t-shirt should be worth more then an aging mid-level free agent.

But then we'd never trade anyone because, as we all know, every Yankee is worthy of his own t-shirt.

But from what I hear the Mets panties are pretty nice too!

Melky hit his ceiling really quick. Good-riddance.

    great arm though.

I don't think Melky is better then many CFs in the game but I just might take him over Cameron. Cameron is one of the most frustrating players to watch and root for. With money apparently no object to the Yanks I would imagine there is a better CF they could get.

And looking to break Kenny Lofton's record for most teams in a career.

Cameron was the 4th best defensive CF in the game last year (which is better than Melky was), and is more consistent offensively.

    Last year's OPS+
    Melky: 68
    Cameron: 110

    Career OPS+
    Melky: 84
    Cameron: 106

    For a one-year stop gap, it's a huge improvement.

I think they are getting him because of Sabathia. They are best friends and that was probably used as a bargaining chip when they met. To ease his transition to Gotham.

"Padres GM Kevin Towers confirmed that the Jake Peavy trade talks with the Cubs are now at an end, with the Cubs having pulled out.
"We were asking for a lot," Towers said. "For Jake Peavy, we would plan on getting a lot." Towers said the Padres will meet next week and decide whether they want to pursue further deals involving Peavy. The right-hander is due only $9 million next year, so it's not as though the Padres would default on their payroll if they don't move him. Still, the team doesn't want to risk him getting hurt before the big money kicks in with the 2010 season."

Now, if he were to change his mind about who he would play for.....

Cameron is the most overrated defensive outfielder, possibly of all time. You're right though, I guess he is an upgrade to Melky, my 7 year old son might be an upgrade to Melky but with all the money in the world It shouldn't be so hard to find an upgrade to Cameron.

I do think Don brings up an excellent point(every dog does have his day) in that Sabathia and Cameron are tight, that may have been a stipulation(on top of the extra 20 mil) to get him to sign.

Rosenthal says Atlanta is about to guaranty 5th tear to Burnett. I wouldn't mind losing him. He pitches best against the Yankees anyway. (Boston too but not the same) He is average against everybody else. That would save a lot of money as anyone else would be much less. Also allowing a better chance to go after Teixiera.

They're not buying him friends. That might be a nice little side benefit of the deal, but the only real reason they're after Cameron is the team has a need at CF, and Cameron is the best available option.

Hmm. I wonder if Bernie's been staying in game shape?

    Kidding... kidding.

You know, I couldn't stand Bernie when he was here, but CF has been a mess ever since.

So as for Cameron, talks have stalled and aren't expected to complete during the winter meetings.

At this point, I think the best thing for Cashman to do would be to make a legit offer to Teixeira, and see if he bites. If he does, see if you can ship Melky somewhere, hopefully Matsui as well.

Matsui needs to be our DH. He is a good hitter and can play OF in emergency situations. I'd rather the Yankees pull a 12 player deal deal to land JJ Putz:breakdance:

This is why the Mariners wouldn't be interested in Matsui. They are trying to liquidate for a rebuild.

    :lol::up:

I'm really done with Matsui. I have been for a while. Of course, if he's still here and he's our DH, I'll support him, but I'd rather dump him off already. For a guy with no injury history, he's spent an awful lot of time on the DL the past couple years.

I'd much rather Damon were the DH. Or Manny. Oh how I'd love it for it to be Manny.

I'll stand by it, Manny in a 1 year deal, is the only way I'd like him.
