Compare 2009's prospects with players that are already in the league: I'll start it off with Texas Tech's offensive duo - Graham Harrell reminds me a lot of Kenny Dorsey. Tall, lanky guys that can make college throws but lack big time arm strength. Harrell gets completely thrown out of his rhythm if he gets hit, just like Dorsey. I noticed this during the Oklahoma-Texas Tech game. It reminded me a lot of the Ohio State-Miami championship game years back. Michael Crabtree is a lot like Brandon Marshall. Big, strong, physical wideouts but sometimes they lose "it" during games and it causes huge drops and mistakes. Crabtree is a mediocre route runner, but that can be coached. I think he'll be a huge talent in the NFL, just like Marshall, but he really needs to work on his in-game awareness and screw his head on straight if he wants to be one of the best.
I know im going to get heat for this BUT Tim Tebow looks alot to me like Donovan Mcnabb, a strong guy that CAN run but doesnt have to. He has a big time arm, that i think if he stays in school another year he can really polish.
I hope Tebow comes out because he'll get picked before the Jets choice comes up and that will push a top player down a spot.
LeSean McCoy - LT, but if that's too big then a young Fred Taylor, and if that's too big then DeAngelo Williams. Tyson Jackson - Marcus Spears Aaron Curry/Clint Sintim - Karlos Dansby. Sintim gets there because Dansby was/is a good pass rusher, even though he doesn't do it as much as he used to. Curry gets there because he reminds me of Dansby right now, a well rounded LBer who can do everything at well above average levels. I think Sintim has that kind of upside too. While thats not as fun as watching him pile up sacks, it will make him a better all around player. Another comparison I like for Sintim is Adalius Thomas. Yes, I am a major Clint Sintim fan. The first round type talents under Groh recently have been solid players from Day 1 (Long, D'Brick, Albert), and Sintim fits that similar "good athlete, good football player, smart, mature person" profile. I expect him to be a good player fairly quickly, and potentially a great one...theres too many factors there to lock it though. Alex Mack - Nick Mangold. I also think he'll grow a beard in the pros. It seems like it's an elite C thing to do that. Scott McKillop - A hopefully not drafted by the Patriots Teddy Bruschi. Vontae Davis - Darrelle Revis Everette Brown - DeMarcus Ware Jason Smith - Chris Samuels - Basically, the forgotten elite T. He's going to climb up boards I think. Dude can play. Greg Hardy - Mike Vrabel, the '03 and '07 version, all the time. Maybe I'm overestimating him here, but I think he's a smarter player than he's given credit for. If he's not that versatile, then F it you've got someone with elite pass rushing ability anyway. He's got similar size and body type to Vrabel, which I don't think many of the other guys compared to Vrabel (any white dude with pass rushing ability in the 240-270 range) really have. Interviews and the actual draft will clear up Hardy's comparison. I think Merriman can fit here too. Depends really on how he gets used and what he's coached/willing to be coached into. Duke Robinson - Shawn Andrews. Andre Smith could get this comparison, but people are sleeping on Robinson. An in-shape Duke Robinson is a true elite G prospect IMO. Mark Herzlich - Brian Urlacher. Sick all around LBer whose coverage ability makes him a very good LB prospect. Brandon Pettigrew - Chris Baker - Solid TE that I don't think ever has a super amazing season. Hopefully, he gets a chance to catch more passes than Baker has in his NFL career. DHB - Randy Moss. Obviously probably won't blow the NFL world away like Moss did, but ridiculously similar as a player. Playmaker. I just think it's weird how a tall, lanky mofo WR like this guy can turn an end around into a TD, but then I remember he's really, really, unfairly fast. Vince Oghobaase - Richard Seymour type player. A tall, long, athletic, well rounded DT/DE prospect. If he gets drafted by a 4-3 team, adjust to comparisons to the other tall, strong, athletic 4-3 DTs out there like Williams, Henderson, or Haynesworth. I doubt he comes out, but when he does teams will be drooling. He'll be the best DT prospect since Ngata IMO. Beyond throwing mechanics, Phillip Rivers is a great comparison for Sam Bradford. Neither is a great athlete in the pocket, but they'll avoid the sack and get the ball to their guys. Both of them possess the same strengths. They both know their systems in and out, and both know how to put the ball in their playmakers hands in space. I like Bradford's potential to gain a little bit more arm strength through basic maturity, but if he doesn't he's still got a better arm than Rivers. Another decent comparison for both those guys is/was Chad Pennington before he had his shoulder shredded. Peria Jerry reminds me of Babineaux on the Falcons. He's got some really nice potential as a UT. Matthew Stafford is a Jay Cutler clone. Still, Jay Cutler was smart enough to stay for his senior year. I think it's just so stupid for a QB to come out as a junior, but theres a ton of factors that affect that. If he's mature enough, sure. But I really hope these guys understand what they're doing on this one, because NFL QB is not an easy career choice. I really don't see the fire to be one as soon as possible, but I realize money and that "zomg I might get injured" is a big deal too.
hmy:hmy: no way. Brown right looks like he'll be a situational pass rusher in the pros. He has a big game and then disappears completely for a few - check his game longs.
1. All pass rushers disappear at times. It's the nature of being a pass rusher. 2. Brown is one of the most decorated pass rushers in FSU history, and thats saying something. 3. Brown and Ware are both considered high character guys.. 4. Brown has a top 3 first step in this draft class. Michael Johnson and Greg Hardy are the only ones with a better first step IMO, and Hardy is debatable. 5. I say this for all prospect comparisons because it has to be said: DeMarcus Ware was not DeMarcus Ware(!!!!) coming out of college. Sick athlete, sick pass rush, dedicated player, dedicated person... 6. I also think that like Ware, Brown is a much better 3-4 OLB prospect than he is as a straight up DE.
idk i think Tebow can be an alright qb if he can just go somewhere and not have any pressure watsoever to play right, having a proven QB in front him so he can just chill and learn for 2 years.
Brown is a stud. He'll destroy his workouts- he'll run better than any DE- and it translates on the field. He has unbelievable athleticism, a lightning-fast first step, and he closes like a missile. He's got better football instincts than given credit for but also has the short-area quickness to recover. He consistently explodes off the ball, dips his shoulder, turns the corner, and finishes. A lot of tackles can't mirror him and will slide out early in anticipation of the speed rush and then Brown will use a Freeney-esque spin move back inside. He's the best JR. DE and a top 15 pick in my book.
Some really good comparisons(Jackson, Stafford, Herzlich, Robinson) but also some one's that make me scratch my head. Oghobaase doesn't even dominate at Duke, Seymour dominated the SEC. Vrabel's an intelligent player - a guy with top intangibles and Hardy's a turd who plays when he wants to(But when he plays...look out). Pettigrew's a better all-around talent than Baker. He'll add a lot more in the passing game while also being a valuable in-line blocker. Larry English- LaMarr Woodley Brian Cushing- Bobby Carpenter Rey Maualuga- Junior Seau BJ Raji- Vince Wilfork Taylor Mays- Sean Taylor Michael Crabtree- Anquan Boldin Malcolm Jenkins- Nnamdi Asomugha Nate Davis- Drew Brees Derek Pegues- Reggie Nelson
agreed i see and hear alot of tebow here in jacksonville.i think his best bet for success is to stay 1 more year and end up on a team like the colts where he can sit behind payton for 4 years and get his motion down right.he's defintitely nota first rounder
Or better yet, behind Brady in New England, to a team that already adopts a lot of plays from UF's playbook. That would be his easiest transition, especially considering BB is one of the few coaches smart enough to give him some specific packages that will utilize his talents as a ballcarrier.
Oghobaase: That's just his sophomore year. He was Second Team All American and First Team All ACC this year, and is second amongst active players in the ACC with 20 TFL. Not to mention he's got similar size and a similar build to Seymour, who dominated the ACC (GT) also. The Hardy one I think is his full potential. He's got the potential to be a very completely, well rounded player. He can also line up at TE like Vrabel, and has a similar build. Right now, he's a sick pass rusher, but he can and IMO will be more. I guess Merriman is a good one, but I was trying to stay away from it. He is the closest thing to a Merriman since Merriman came out... Baker is a very good catcher who IMOs been underutilized. Hes a really good athlete and we've seen him make some sick grabs when he's had the chance. His real strength is the running game. I think Pettigrew is very similar, and it's really not a knock to compare anyone to Baker. He's a good TE IMO, it's just that a good, well rounded TE isn't valued as much nowadays. Not bad. I really like the Jenkins, Raji, Engli, and Rey R. I really think Cushing plays more like Harris. I'm not sure he's quite the all around athlete Harris is, but he can always prove me wrong.
Seymour attended Georgia.* I haven't checked Oghobaase's stats but the few times I've seen him I haven't been all that impressed. I do have some Duke tapes so I'll go back and look as I do with most prospects but he seems to be a popular name right now and I haven't seen it. Hardy's an awesome athlete, Vrabel's just not a guy that comes to mind when I think Hardy. I love the guy too- I watch as much SEC football as anybody and you're justified in loving his talent, I just question how well he'll do in the NFL when he has such a poor attitude. Merriman comparisons are tough because of his unique role in Maryland's defense. Hardy's got a rangy build similar to Gaines Adams and can dominate games like Gaines did. Harris was known as a "between-the tackles thumper"(Mayock's exact words) at Michigan. And then his stock soared when he ran the 4.5. Cushing is best playing over the TE at USC. Actually, his worst game this season was when he slid inside for a game against Arizona(I think). I like the Carpenter comparison due to his combination of athleticism, versatility, experience, and to the fact he's also overshadowed by another LB on the team.
Wooooooooow. My bad. Well, he did also play with Marcus Stroud at Georgia. I was wondering why when I was Googling who the other DT was he played with (all I remembered was that Seymour was part of a DT combo in college and it was a Georgia school). You'd think I'd be smart enough to figure out it wasn't GT when the search pulled up nothing. I haven't seen him much at all. He's just a guy who's bandwagon I hopped on a while ago because the size, physical ability, pedigree (top HS prospect that chose a top SCHOOL), and production have made him the single most intriguing DT in the nation to me. Another intriguing non-senior DT is Boo Robinson from Wake Forest. He's the guy making room for Curry, and is a really good potential 3-4 NT. He reminds me of Wilfork moreso than Raji, who isn't as bulky as Wilfork was coming out. Iunno. He's got a similar build to both Pace and Vrabel, and plays with the ferocity of a Merriman. I'm not sure who that makes him comparable too, but if his head is where his skills are, then his ceiling is that of a legit game changer as an all around player. Also, like Merriman in college and Vrabel as a pro, Ole Miss has had no problem with moving Hardy up anywhere. He's line up at TE, WR, DE, LB, and DT. Maybe more, but thats just out of what I've seen. Yea, thats why I like the Carpenter one here too. Still, I think Cushing is the stiffest out of those 3 guys coming out of school and I agree that his strength is playing over the TE. He's not playing as fast as he used to, and that's kind of hurt him to me. He's a guy I'm sure a team could find something to do with, but I don't buy into enough for me to really hope he becomes a Jet. Watch him become a Jet because I said that.
