I got this text from GOGREEN and they said we signed S J.R. Reed to the active roster. I think he was a backup safety for the eagles and got released a month ago? I also think he played on special teams. Does anyone know if he will improve anything or was this just to add depth and more competition?

He was probably brought in to replace B. Smith on special teams. I don't know what Smith's status is, but this is my guess.

He's an ex-Eagle, probably someone Cohen likes. They deactivated Marcus Mason for this guy. I guess if we;re only going to run the ball 11 times in a game, we only need 2 RBs active. If that.

He was one hell of a kick returner in Philly back in the day..

Was hoping they would activate Clowney for Brad Smith's spot. So much for the possibility of a deep threat.

They deactivated Marcus Mason, I think Brad Smith's spot is still open.

I think they cut Mason, not deactivated him. The active roster isn't set until game day. I also don't think Mason ever made the active roster, did he?

I'm guessing this guy was brought in to replace Smith on ST's if Smith is injured.

Never heard of him. Still would like to see Clowney on the active list this week. i'm pretty sure he will though because i don't think they would take B. Smith's spot away for a Defensive player that doesn't know our system yet

That makes sense, I read a Jets blog and it specified 'activated', I should have thought twice about taking it for face value. Anyway, I doubt Reed is going to be on the STs coverage team on Sunday. i would expect to see Clowney activated in Smith's stead against the Bills.

Mason was never active for a game and he was cut. If Clowney can contribute on special teams i'm sure they will get him out there.
