That's a pretty long post for someone who is "indifferent" and you make a lot of incorrect assumptions about anyone who doesn't agree with you. People like Chad because he was a Jet for 8 years and you hated him before he went to Miami, so that argument doesn't fly. Again, no Jet fan is rooting for him, especially now, but the facts are the facts and that's what you're struggling with. You and others left him for dead, laughed when he went to a 1-15 team, said he couldn't play and would be replaced by Henne by mid season. With each passing week he looms larger and larger in the scope of the Jets (yes, the Jets) season, so he is a relevant topic here. Had we let Cassel go in camp after 8 years here the same would be said about him. If you don't like seeing him discussed then you are in the wrong place, not us.
Pennington=The every other year champ....this year he is doing well b/c he had a shitty year last season..this has always happened. 2002=22 tds 6 ins in only 15 games ended 9-7 2003=only played in 10 games and had 13 tds and 12 ints ended 6-10 2004=beast team and he had 16 tds and 9 ints ended 10-6 2005=3 games then went down to injury and btw he was 2 tds 3 ints before he went down ended 4-12 2006=NFL comback player of the year...started every game and had 7tds and 16ints ended 10-6 2007=started 9 games then lost his job to clemens...only had 10tds and 9 ints and could not bring us back into games. ended 4-12 2008=this year he has started every game so far and only has 12 tds and 6 ints so far 8-5 every other year pennington does well...wait until next season, he will either get injuryed and be placed on ir or lose his job to chad henne. I don't want this stupid bs where every other year have to wait...this is why the jets made the move, because pennington always has a bad year the next season
Really? We're calling a rookie coach a "real" head coach? If I'm not mistaken, our "posers" went 10-6 and made the playoffs in their first year. Chances are Miami will go 10-6, too. With Chad Pennington at quarterback. Against last place schedules. Hmm...
But doesn't that mean we should have kept him until he was in "bad year" mode again? One other thing thats worth mentioning. Take away the Arizona game and Favre has 14 TD's and 14 ints. It was a great win for him and the Jets but it was one game and it bloated his stats.
I'm just saying getting rid of pennington was smart, because he was painful to watch every other year for jet fans...yes maybe we should of kept him this year, but i don't mind at all that we have favre because he will bring the jets to the playoffs and if you don't think so, well....your not a jet fan then.
This again...take away those 3 games that I can remember where Ronnie Brown won them the game, a trick play won them the game, and Ricky Williams won them the game...all the same games where Chad didn't score any TD's or 1 TD and/or led them to a FG and you can pretty much give Miami 3 more losses on this season and an afterthought, therefore, "bloating" the wins stats for the Dolphins. We can do this all day. We can make all the arguments abt the defense creating all the TO's in that AZ game, but we still had to drive the ball downfield and get a score, whether it be a FG or a TD. What? You don't think 3 and outs can't happen? Regardless, this doesn't mean you can "toss out" certain games/points just because you want it to fit your argument. We've been scoring a lot of points this season. Our O has struggled lately and I place the blame on the OC primarily, then comes Favre and the receivers. There's only so much a QB can do when the WR's are running shitty routes that play into the hands of the Defense. That's why he's been settling for the checkdowns. But I've seen him make the long throws, the throws w/ zip behind them, the tight throws, etc. His arm is fine, it's just gotten to a point where there's really no place or nobody to throw the ball to.
its not like were out of it, and its not all favres fault which plays are called. idc i still love to sat brett favre was a new york jet
I think my point was Favre had one really great game and then a lot of medicore ones. Its not a stretch to point out. Our wins have come from game management and the running game. Much much more then Miami's wins. Rushing stats jets - 352 attempts for 1644 dolphins - 367 attempts for 1505 yards And I am not making excuses for favre like "he has worse recievers then Chad does". Thats laughable.
I huge reason Pennington was so successful early in his career was that Chrebet was still on the team. Chrebet is a check down passer's dream, and consistantly sustained drives and had yards after the catch. Pennnington is a good QB, but he absolutely requires an excellent team around him in order to flurish. Pennington can not make it on Pennington alone. No O line - Pennington done; no D - Pennington done; no fast short-range receivers - Pennington done. That is not to say that Favre wouldn't struggle in the same scenario; the only difference is the intangible of velocity and the ablity to throw deep, which a D has to respect; also Favre has proven he can take a hit and not break (he only seems prone to the occasional boneheaded throw). Last year, Pennington made a lot of very questionable decisions when throwing the football resulting in costly interceptions, mostly due to the fact that he was running for his life half the time due to the human turnstiles - Clarke and Clement.
The same thing can be said about Chad. Of course, maybe it wasn't a 6 TD game, maybe 2...3? Still don't see how we'd be better off. I agree with this statement. Our wins have come from game management and the running game, whereas the Dolphins have used a couple of trick plays followed by the wildcat. We don't use the wildcat unless it's to get a 1st down. They're looking for a homerun by running it on 1st downs for which they have been successful. (See Dolphins record this year) Yes. Thomas Jones has better rush yards between Ronnie Brown and Ricky "Sticky" Williams. Again, I agree with you here. Favre DOESN'T have worst receivers than Chad does and that statement IS laughable. They do however have better gameplanning and have made all the right calls on offense that helped them keep the chains moving and/or got the ball to their play-makers (whether it be Ginn or Camarillo). So here's me giving all the credit to the Dolphins CS for the good job they've done in turning this team around in 1 year. They have a better coach, coordinators and system down South. A system that turned an avg QB to an above avg QB. You happy now? Can we all move along now?
BTW, the Dolphins season this year is highly reminiscent of our 2006 season. A very easy schedule. What this translates to is if we win the next 2 games and have to play Miami in our house for the division title on the 28th of December, we will definitely come out victorious. If we lose either of the 2 next games, it won't matter.
Farve over Chad for the division and the playoffs all day long! Does anybody think Chad can get it done in the Meadowlands with the wind whipping over Farve? I think NOT!!!!
No I saw them. The best thing he did in those games was manage the games and not throw an INT. Good journyman play to offset his horrible performances.
Bullshit. Favre was outstanding in those games, especially during crunch time. He's making throws and manipulating defenses in ways that Penny only dreams of. Just because passes aren't bombs doesn't mean anyone can make them. Favre made a career of making short passes win the WCO.
If we lose, we immediately have to depend on help from someone else; in my mind that is not being the best and being playoff ready. It also usually means an early exit in the post-season.
The point that you cannot see is that we as fans have the right to attack mgmt decisions. It it clear from records that Chad was not the issue and mgmt thought it was by bringing in Favre and releasing Chad. Its not about Chad, most folks on this board will always love him but realize he is a fin now, its about how mgmt f'd up in its assessment of team weakness. Miami has considerably less talent than us, yet has the same record. Mangini and co should have known that equipping Chad with weapons and even further strengthening the def would have led to the a better result than bringing in Favre. Now we have no future at QB. Favre is SB or bust, you better believe this and the big question is who do we go to next? We released a QB in his prime at 31 who has not gotten hurt this year and has a better passer rating.
