Any you are starting to act like the fool your nick implies. If you don't like what I say then say what you don't like instead of just acting like a child.
And you are even worse. You can never really state a contrary opinion so you too just resort to being a child. Oh, and what I wanted last year was Santana and give up Hughes. Seems I was as right then as I am now and you were as wrong then as you are now.
Oh, please. That's utter bullshit and you know it. What happens is that I refute your ideas and you can't even respond to the points, so you ignore them. What's left but to have some fun? Say the word, and I will go back and find every post of mine that stated - not only a contrary opinion - but a well-reasoned and logical one grounded in reality. In each of those cases, you either chose not to respond at all... or you responded with rubbish that did absolutely nothing to address the points I made. I don't really feel like going back and finding them all, but if you say the word, I will... mostly because I'm bored, but I'm also a bit curious how you would try to explain that away. 1. On what grounds were you right? You don't judge that non-deal in the span of one year. Unless you're a complete idiot, of course. Are you a complete idiot, Don? 2. You STILL haven't answered this question (I've asked it several times): You just said again that you wanted Santana last year. According to your own arguments that you've posted over and over and over and over again, six-year, big money deals to pitchers are stupid, regardless of who the pitcher is. That's the bulk of your argument against Sabathia. How,then, do you turn around and admit that you wanted to pay Santana the same amount of money as we would to Sabathia (at the same age), over the same number of years... only you wanted to give up several top prospects on top of it? That isn't just internally inconsistent. It's a sign of insanity. How does that make sense? I will now sit back and watch you ignore this question. Again.
Ugh, $15M is a lot of money for a guy with question marks on his health. I'm down though. Sheets was my most-wanted all season until the very end of the year. This might put a little pressure on Sabathia too. I wonder if this would officially put us out of the Teixeira running? Wow Don. I've tried to be nice to you, but you're bordering on insanity now. What I'm going to do is quote Cappy, since he sums up everything I would say to you quite nicely: The one time you presented a decent argument was when you said you'd rather leave the chase for pitching behind and pursue Teixeira, which I simply don't agree with. Everything else you've written has been this silly belief that Sabathia's weight is a clear sign we should not sign him. It's silly. Very silly. And I use the word silly because overall I still like you as a poster.
The Giants were busy filling immediate needs, such as their bullpen and middle infield. Starting pitching is not a drastic hole, like the pen was. Now that they've soilidified it(Howry, Affeldt) and signed Renteria, they can go into their wants. They have a meeting with CC this weekend, where they could offer a reported 6 year, $100 million contract, plus incentives/bonuses. Should the Giants sign CC, that would potentially take the "untouchable" tag off of Matt Cain. Cain could be potentially used to bring in a big bat. CC signing also puts the Giants as the obvious favorites in the West. They'd reportedly also be interested in an experienced 5th starter, such as Moyer... As much as I dislike Sabean, he's really done a fantastic job this off-season. He probably overpaid a bit for Renteria, but the Giants had the money, had the need and took the risk that he dosen't return to form. I'm thinking he deffinetly performs better than last season, but perhaps not at where he was. He is also just filling a spot until Manny Burris is ready to take over.
From what I've heard, a lot of people around the league seem to think Teixeira is a lock to go to Boston. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_y...g=ge-teixeiraredsox120808&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
The Yankees are seriously pursuing Sabathia, Sheets, and Burnett, and speculation is that Cashman has already spoken with Boras about Lowe. The Yankees and Pettitte are about $6M away from each other. Is it conceivable for the Yankees to wind up with Sabathia, Wang, Sheets, Burnett, Lowe and Pettitte in camp as potential starters, with Joba and Hughes in the wings, possibly both pitching out of the pen? Put Teixeira at first and bring back Abreu in right and I'd be a very excited Yankee fan. Maybe excited enough to not be so miserable about the Jets. (Obviously they wouldn't sign all of those starters, though it might not be a bad idea to go to a 6 man rotation with the health potential of selected guys in that group.)
I'm going to say that there is 0% chance of that happening. What you just listed adds about $80 million to the Yanks' payroll. Add Tex and Abreu to that, and you've just added another $30 million or so. I think they get Sabathia and Pettitte, and then one from the remaining group of Lowe, Burnett, and Sheets. I hope it's Sheets. Teixeira would be nice, but I sincerely doubt it happens. (I hope I'm wrong about that, though.) I don't think they go with a six-man rotation. I think they go with five, and if anything happens, you have Hughes, Kennedy, and Aceves ready to fill in.
Can't tell if you are serious or not. The way it looks now, I can't see this happening. I hope you're right though. IF Teixiera is a Boston lock, then the Yankees will drive the price up so high it won't even be funny.
I know, I just read stuff like this, though: “He is a perfect fit for the Red Sox and Boston,” said another club official. “A guy who plays every day, doesn’t need to be the center of attention, is a good teammate, and can hit like he does, I can’t see the Red Sox letting him get away.” ... and can't believe those kinds of comments pass as news. You could put any team in there in place of Red Sox and Boston. You mean a guy who is a great hitter, a good teammate, and who plays every day is a player who might be a good fit on a baseball team? You don't say! There are plenty of tidbits out there that could be reported and ARE meaningful. But when I read stuff like that, I just take it as Winter Meeting posturing and nothing more. Edes either needed a story, or some assistant to the assistant to the assistant of the GM wanted to be interviewed.
Again, I think that applies to several teams. Not saying he won't end up in Boston... I just take reports like that with a large grain of salt. It's a story just for the sake of writing a story. No new news.
I don't believe I actually had to go back, quote myself, and bold the part where I thought I made it pretty clear that I was daydreaming.
Baseball writers are such fawning little schoolgirls when it comes to following players, agents, and GMs around for scoops. They get so easily played, and they still go back for more.
