I mean Jesus... this is why Jet Fans are pissed off. We played arguably the best game I've seen the Jets play in about 3 or 4 years. Then we come back against the Bronco's a lay an egg, and rather than come out firing this week against an inferior 49ers team we lay yet another egg. AWESOME... that's an understatement. Pathetic would be more like it. I'd like to see our entire coaching staff go, period. But what sucks is that there really aren't any other options out there that will make us any better anytime soon.. (Bill Cower would be ideal, but the chances of that happening are REALLY slim... I mean REALLY)The coordinators we have are terrible at in game adjustments, and Bob Sutton is just plain bad... there really is no other way to say it. Someone needs to be held accountable for the past 2 weeks performances. We have played without energy on both sides of the ball, made stupid mistakes, and acted as is these teams were gonna just roll over and loose because we showed up on the field. That stuff starts with the coaches, allowing that attitude to take hold of the team. So I ask again... What happened to the team that went to play in Tennessee. Thats the team I expect to see play every week, yet it doesn't look like it is going to show up again this year, and for me, well I blame that on the coaching staff, and more importantly our coordinators... Mangini should be runnin up one side of them and down the other for the past 2 weeks performances. Just some thoughts from a once again frustrated Jet fan, watching our team embrace mediocrity again... Ellis
They got exposed for what they really are by Den & SF & I am sure you knew that before starting this thread
My feelings are that we have the talent to be an above average team, but lack the coaching to take that step... With that said, We ran into 2 mediocre teams... We made the Broncos' look like they were all world and made Shaun Hill look like Joe Montana, and Bryant Johnson look like Jerry Rice... and I wouldn't exactly call the 49ers a passing team...
What happened? The Jets came out against the Broncos with a brain dead game plan in the first half that saw them pass on first down just 2 in 11 tries and saw them run on second down just 1 out of 8. That was enough to lose the game against any even moderately effective opponent. Now either they scripted that idiocy, which it's hard to imagine, or they just freaking react to the last play's results on every down. This is bad coaching plain and simple. Schottenheimer and Mangini cost us the Broncos game by being unprepared to contest it well. The 49ers game was more pitiful play calling. Here was the opening sequence: 1st down run by Jones for 3 yards. 2nd down short pass by Favre for 5 yards. 3rd down Favre incomplete. 4 and out. So the next series, after opening up the game with the same pitiful pattern that had lost them the Broncos game, the Jets decided to get tough and ran the ball 3 straight times and were unable to move the pile on 3rd and 1 and so they had another 4 and out. Finally on their third possession they passed the ball on 1st and 2nd downs and got a 1st down. Then they went right back to run the ball on 1st down and pass on 2nd and 3rd and wound up punting. Jesus, the playcalling is inept right now. Watching the Jets offense is like watching a patsie playing Three Card Monte while the defense sits back secure in the fact that there's no pea under any of the cups so it doesn't matter how hard the Jets are reacting to the moves.
I am most certain that the coach and the coordinators we have in place will ALWAYS peak at 10-6 season w/ an easy schedule (but I pray that I'm wrong). We could and will always do much, much worse. But, I'm convinced this CS could have a Cowboys/Giants talent-filled roster and we'd still manage to have Tony Romo dink-n-dunk downfield, get Brandon Jacobs 10 touches, Marion Barber 5, and have Plaxico, TO, and Roy Williams display some of the poorest performances where fans start believing all 3 have lost a step and can't get separation anymore along with pedestrian numbers all during the course of that "good" 10-6 season. I guarantee it.
This has a lot to do with our defensive problems. The offensive problems (particularly in the passing game) is what is really troubling me right now.
i'm hoping they just got too cocky and took both teams lightly. We'll see this week against Buffalo what the Jets are truly made of. Great teams will bounce back from 2 tough losses
We win a close one to the Bills, we lose to Seattle, because we cant win in the west and hope we beat the Phins, because if not, they need to sell this team.
My biggest fear of all is that the reason Mangini doesn't hire good assistants is he doesn't want people around who know their shit cuz that would make him look bad. He doesn't want to sit there in the meeting room and not know how to respond to something a competent person said.
I don't know. Still searching for that team. I heard a sick rumor that they might be making an appearance at the Meadowlands this weekend.
i agree. i've been complaining about running on 1st down too much for weeks. the D knows exactly what we're gonna do every time we get the ball.
The greatest part about it is we also refuse to ever use the play-action pass. Schotty hates it for some reason. Why do we always get these idiot OCs? One guy hates the shotgun, the other guy can't stand the play action pass. Watch, the next guy will hate the screen.
Thomas Jones 3 weeks before Denver he has 26, 30, 27 carries. Thomas Jones 2 games since Tennessee he has had 16 and 10 carries. Combine that with a QB that has played terribly and a passing game that isn't working and there is the problem on O. Give T. Jones the ball. On D, they can't get off the field on 3rd down, the rush D has softened some but is not the problem. The continuation to call the 3 man rush formation is sickening. It hasn't worked at all this year, scrap it from the game plan immediately. They have to generate pressure on the QB. The fact that the CS doesn't know that the best way to mask a bad secondary is to pressure the QB has made me lose complete faith in this CS.
