If the Jets tank this season, I think it's time to finally do a complete cleanup. I am just not sure if Woody has the guts to do that.

Not for nothing..but we were not that much worse off than miami last year and we are in first place in the AFCE.

He should have gotten the job over Mangini, realistically.

Sounds like the old man is getting riled up a little bit. I was not high on the Favre trade either. I thought CP could do just as well and I thought that Shotty handled him poorly. CP does have a big injury black cloud as well.

Anyhow, with that said, jury is still out for EM. I know the last 2 games have been crap, but we still lead our division and are 3rd in AFC. West Coast games are tough, jet lag etc..but not an excuse. If you want to be the best you have to overcome those things. Look, we are not the 07 Pats. We are not going to roll over everyone. Unless this team completely collapses EM gets another chance. It take some time for this many new players to gel.

With that said, there is no reason with the talent on our defense and in the secondary that we should get passed on the way we do. It is not a talent issue, it is definitely a coaching/motivation/adjustment issue. I am not fond of Sutton and Shot. It is unfortunate that they were not replaced. I would really like to see Calahan as OC and it would have been nice to have Ryan as of DC.

Bottom line though is that the buck stops with EM. If he coordinators are bad he needs to fix or replace. I think the team is often flat and EM's energy and presence often reflects this. If that is his weakness, he needs coordinators and assistance that can compensate for that. Guys who are outwardly firey kind of like Donnie Henderson used to be.

In all, it is upsetting to watch the team in the last two weeks, but if you were predicting in Aug, I am pretty sure that you did not think we would be 1st in AFCE and 3rd in AFC at this point, so sky is not falling...yet.

I'm on the "Hire Rex Ryan" bandwagon. T-shirts forthcoming.

Spags runs an entirely different D- which would of course mean shifting around present players, cutting others and signing some newbies, this of course leading to another "rebuilding" period, etc.

Maybe my sons will be lucky enough to see a Jets team win the big dance.

at this point....i don't care if we need to blow the whole thing up...hell, maybe we can get our money's worth out of Gholston if we switch back to a 4-3.

its better to rebuild...then to be "spinning our wheels" thinking we're a contender.

I'm sorry. If Cowher is as interested as some say he is in coaching for the Jets, then give him 8 million a year and total control over personnel. The mans a winner.

You can even build a SB team around an undrafted or late-round QB, like Brady or Romo. My point is that evaluating QB talent in the draft is a significantly greater crapshoot than evaluating talent at any other position. I'm personally content drafting the more sure bets on day 1 and hope for a diamond QB in the rough on day 2.

Being in first place in week 14 is like kissing your cousin ... We need to make it to the AFC Championship game ... Winning games in December is the trick ... if we continue to play like lambs we're not going to make the playoffs. IMO- … playing the way we are now, it will take a miracle too win 2 more games.

Maybe like kissing are really cute cousin. We control our own destiny, if we win out we still have a chance a home field and a bye, it does not get much better than that. I agree though that we need to pick it up. If we flunk out the rest of the season, we will feel like sorry Mets fans.

You don't need 3-4 years. Actually if it takes you that long, you should probably be fired. Look at Sparano, Zorn, etc. You can go back a few years and add some more names to that list. Either you get it or you don't. If you don't have the talent on the team then yeah, it'll take a few years. But if you do have the talent and you are clueless, you will be clueless with the talent as well.

I think people forgot how bad of a coach Herm really was.

We will not do a complete cleanup. We brought in a ton of old or aging vets (Faneca, Woody, Favre, Jenkins, Pace, Richardson) and we will stick with what we have until at least Favre leaves. We are in win-now mode and our owner and FO are committed to that, even if we won't be "winning now".

Changing coaches, especially the head coach, is something that is done when starting anew.

Who got new head coaches last year? Atlanta and Baltimore. What were their first round picks in the draft? Quarterbacks. Miami did too, and they took a QB with the first pick of the 2nd round, but it was essentially the last pick of the 1st round since NE lost the 31st pick.

The thing about Ryan and Flacco is they play on run dominated offenses. Pennington would have just as many wins on those teams. If we stuck to the run, played good D, and passed deep off of play action BF would look like the best QB in the league.

The problem with Mangini is that he's just like Joe Walton, bad enough to be bad, but good enough that it took 6 years to get rid of him. Mangini is not a complete screw up like Kotite, he's Walton part 2. If you remember back that far, Walton got the job cuz he was a coordinator for the dominant team of his era, the Steelers. Sound familiar?

I still think it's pretty pethetic how a bunch of you two weeks ago thought Brett was awesome, now when the Defense and coaching staff are stinking up the place you turn on him. Not to mention the receivers are mediocre at best. I am still glad that I am now a Jets fan. I will stay one even after Brett retires. But get real guys this team is losing for a lot of reasons, and right now #4 is the smallest part of them. If it were not for him this team probably would be at least 3 or 4 wins less.

It's doesn't have to take 3-4 years to rebuild a team. You know I can produce a list of head coaches who had success right away.

If this season were to end with no playoffs and a regime change occurred, there's no reason why it would take 3-4 years for some other coach to rebuild the team.
The Jets could win big now if they had proper coaching and based on contractual status of many of their key players, the Jets will be in good position to win big in 2009 should the team be coached well.
