Take this for what it's worth, but in the post game show on SNY, Ellis was interviewed. He was asked what sort of adjustments the Jets made at halftime on defense? His answer, "Nuffin, we just needed to make better plays." Not ragging on Ellis here, but what kind of Defensive Coordinator gets torched like that in the first half, and makes ZERO HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS???? As much as I hate the Pats, I think they're the best at figuring out what's not working in the first half, and fixing it to start the second half. Is our coaching staff that stubborn??? Do we really think that our "gameplans will work" if we keep hoping at halftime? I think Sutton is horrible. Everyone makes adjustments at halftime...I guess just not the Jets. Now at the press conference after the game, Favre was asked what things the team is doing differently in these two losses that they haven't been doing when they beat the Titans and Pats? He said "Shotty is still calling the same game since week 1." Well if that's the case, then that's just awful. I've said it before, that by week 12, people have enough tape on you to figure out what you do. You need to exploit the other team too...Seems lately like we're the only ones being exploited. I think other teams are completely taking away our short passes, the same ones that beat New England and Tennessee. Now since Schotty is still calling the same plays as week 1, Favre see's the short routes taken away, and he just throws something deep up for grabs. I'm just frustrated when our team is saying the coaches aren't changing things up at all...You always need to be adjusting and tweaking, or else you'll be left in the dust. Which is normally what happens to the Jets down the home stretch. But I'm not being a darksider, just hoping we start to adjust, make changes, and get ready for the Bills.
We dont have the long ball threat that many teams have so when you can man coverage on the outside it allows teams to stop the run and quick slants because they are loading the box. Would you double Coth or Coles if you were a defensive coordinator? We have not shown that we get a threat down the field. Teams will continue to stop us until we start throwing the fall further down the field. How hard is it to game plan for a team when you know you only have to really cover the run and 10 yards for the line of scrimmage? Our Defense is another issue but when the offensive is clicking our defensive can rest.
Forget teh long ball, although that would be nice, what happened to the 15+ yard passes. Weve seen barely any deeper passing plays, posts, crosses, whatever. What happened to Keller up the seam? Where is our passing game? Fav-ra looks old and hesitant out there. There is no desisiveness to his game. Maybe its our recievers not getting open but without the camera angles i cant tell, but i doubt it. How can noone be open with a 5 wide set?
What happened to establishing the run? with this O line and Richardson blocking for Jones, why is it if we go one score down the running game is completely abandoned? The running game is what gets the Offense in rhythm, sets up the play action, and holds momentum. the first time we get the ball in the second half, we line up in shotgun three times in a row? Not even a hint at a run? Jones leads the AFC in rushing and is forgotten about if we go down a score
Here's something I noticed in the past couple weeks in Favre's postgame press conferences. Last week, he made a comment that Schotty called the same plays he calls all the time, and went on to say something to the effect of "if I could do it all over again, I'd call, er, back up his calls again." (It wasn't those exact words, but it was close. It was clear he wanted to say something more like "if I were calling the plays, I'd probably have changed a few of them." This week, he could barely get it out that he was fine with Schotty's playcalling. He literally choked up and couldn't finish saying what he was saying. Like the bullshit was getting caught in his throat. By the end of the year, Favre is going to say something about Schottenheimer. Hopefully it'll happen in the next team meeting, rather than the media. Someone needs to wake that assclown up.
He may or may not, but I can't figure out why they have not gotten this guy into the offense somehow. They should stop pussyfooting. Put Nugent on IR and put in Clowney. This is make or break for us. We have to pull out all the stops.
That would actually make a lot of sense. I don't think Clowney will necessarily be the gamebreaker people make him out to be and I don't think we should bench any of our other WRs, but the whole lets-have-two-active-kickers thing is ridiculous. edit: good catch.. my mistake
the long ball is not our strength -- jones 10 carries 56 yards in a game that was tied in the 3rd quarter -- defense allowed something like 9 of 11 3rd and 4th down conversions?? they need to get off the field and they don't attack enough
Nugent is inactive so putting him on the ir would not allow us to bring in Clowney. Brad Smith is probably injured and can't play next week (just my guess) so Clowney may sneak in there
Very interesting. Yesterday was one of the very few days I didnt bother to listen to any post-game. I think the points you made speak volumes, and are very true about this CS, and their failure to make adjustments on the fly; also agree about the strong ability of NE to make adjustments, and thanks to Favrenstein for the link.
thats killed us all year long, our inability to adjust at halftime. It is uncanny sometimes how we completely inept at adjusting at the half. The other team figures us out and kicks our ass. I cannot tell you how irate this makes me. Is somebody watching this game? Can you not see what we are doing is not working?
also, is it true jones only got 10 carries yesterday? I thought i heard that somehwhere, and if so,........why?
sometimes i wonder if the reason why nobody is making adjustments is because Mangini is a pompous moron who thinks his game plan is fool-proof or the CS is really clueless. I notice that after a loss...Mangini's constant gripe is "The players don't execute the GAME PLAN" and "too much miscommunication"...... here's an idea, Eric....how about "changing the game plan" on the fly??!! Sometimes the game won't be as cut and dry as you think it will be....and you'll have to make changes.
Apparently, his style is to devise the gameplan and go with it, come hell or highwater. maybe he is too proud to ever admit that changes in it ever need to be made. There are enough decent players on the team to figure out that if there is a failure to regularly execute the gameplan, something is wrong, starting at the top of the foodchain. Id sutton is as inept as many here think, maybe the players arent buying into the gameplan. They are playing on their heels, not on their toes. Yesterday they seemed to be a step behind everywhere. Last year they couldnt stop the run. Now...they are just very inconsistent.
You couldn't have made a better analysis. What happen to Mangini being a "game specific", or whatever he calls it, coach? Doesn't he always say he coaches each game differently, depending on opponent? All those quotes point to something totally opposite. Funny to say this having Favre as our QB but, we don't scare anybody deep. Favre's deep passes are just chucked up as deep as he can throw it, with the hope that either our guy, or nobody catches it. Now teams know we are an underneath team. Throw it to the TE over the middle, or Leon in space. They know what to look for. Listening to the quotes, it's no wonder we've done nothing. We've been exposed. It's no wonder we are known as a first half team. We show the opponent the game plan in the first half, then they make adjustments to stop us, and we come at them with the same plays. I'm done with this fuckin' coaching staff. I've always given Mangini the benifit of the doubt, but i'm done. Hey Brett, go back to mowing your lawn. You look tired.
