OK - here are some serious questions from someone who admittedly does not have an encyclopedic knowledge of football:

Our defense looks like shit. How much of it is the play-calling and how much is the players?

Are our WRs not getting open, is Favre just not finding open guys, or is the o-line not giving Favre enough time to wait for guys to get open?

Which players are the biggest liabilities on the team?

Last question - this is something that has been nagging at me about the Vernon Gholston situation. In general, how much of how well a player plays comes down to coaching and how much is just the player? In other words, is Gholston's lack of impact solely because he is mentally not able to grasp what needs to be grasped or is it the coaches fault for not drilling into his head what needs to be learned? Or is the sad truth that he just doesn't have the physical tools?

No one on this board has those answers. They will tell you they do but they don't. Only 1 out of 32 wins each year and it is looking like this year it will be one of the other 31. We aren't around this team and we don't play on it. Draw your own conclusions and you will find at least one person on this board who agrees with you and 3 dozen who don't. They all think they can do better.

I think most of the blame for our defense goes to the players. Drew Coleman can't play, Elam can't cover, Lowery is hit or miss and Law is slow.

I don't understand how people can say they aren't getting open when the camera doesn't even show downfield half the time, but whatever. You look at Coles on that last interception, and I don't give a shit what everyone else says, he was open. He had a good few steps on the DB, but Favre threw it 10 yards behind him, so he had to stop and try to go back and break up the play. Favre has been more responsible for the lack of a pass game than the receivers, without a doubt. The line also deserve some of the blame.

Drew Coleman, Abram Elam, Ty Law, and Brett Favre, to a lesser extent.

Hard to say on Gholston. He isn't a bust YET, so it's hard to say. I think he's at fault.

It's all of the above. On defense, when we call a good coverage the pass rush can't get there or the secondary is confused. However, there are many instances where a bad coverage is called (only rushing 3. This only works well in the red zone where there is less space for the opposing offense to throw) or the linebackers don't call for the correct adjustments based on what the offense is showing. It's really bad. It will take a collective effort from everyone to improve our defense. The best way to improve it, is to look at film and make better schemes.

On offense, the Oline is playing well and Jones is running well. I don't know what's going on with Farve and the wide receivers. I'd like to think that Farve can make throws when he needs to. I'm leaning towards the wide receivers not getting open.

This coaching staff is mediocre on its best day. A complete inability to game plan. Incapable of in-game adjustments. Regularly outcoached by the opposition.

It will not get done with this staff.

Seems like the receiver's are overmatched every game. No solid route catches , No nothing what so ever passing the ball. An on D we cant stop anything in the air. We've been badly exposed these last 2 weeks and against teams we should of man handled.

H'mm lets see the Niners had a half time presentation to give there newest HOFer Fred Dean his HOF ring. I wondered how many NYJs have that ability to reach the elite of the league. So I started going thru the key players & excluding Favre here is my observation
    s

    Brick - Presently no
    Faneca - "
    Woody - "
    Moore - "
    Coles - "
    Cotch - "
    Jones - "
    Ellis - "
    K. Coleman - "
    Jenkins - "
    Barton - "
    Law- "
    Rhodes - "
    Thomas - "

    To early to tell

    Revis
    Harris
    Washington
    Keller
    Mangold

Now does that answer your question what is wrong with us. In plain simple english it is a lack of QUALITY players at the key positions

Now lets look at the Coaches

    EM Probably not
    Sutton For sure not
    Shotty Probably not

So besides average to below average players we have average to below average coaches. That is why we are on a constant merry go round to nowheresville

champ not every team has a hof player at every position. it is a team effort and many times the non hof guy makes the hof guy better by doing his job properly. the coaches also create that hof players fame by putting him in position to succeed.

someone should go through the rosters of al the teams and figure out who the hof players are on each roster. we have one, i wonder how many teams have more than that.
