I thought Peavy was the one guy they wanted a truckload for? I'm all but certain they want at least 3 top-tier prospects, at least two of which being pitchers, in return for Peavy.

My memory isn't great, but I'm pretty sure I recall this correctly (or at least very close.)

Not to mention that he's one year removed from elbow trouble (the second elbow injury in his career) and has semi-questionable mechanics. Peavy's one of my favorite pitchers in the game, but I'm not sure I want the Yanks giving up a lot to get him... and it would likely take a lot.

If someone has injury concerns about Sabathia, they should have ten times the concern about Peavy.

Why the hell would that trade get vetoed? Greene is already 29 years old and he basically sucks.

Peavy is not coming to New York. The Braves offered 2 top tier prospects plus another 1 or 2 B tier prospects, and got denied. The Yankees don't have that in their system to give away. They don't want Hughes or any other Yankee castoffs, either. They want top tier MLB ready prospects.

Teix will hopefully end up in Boston, but I'm thinking now he could end up a National. Boras has been working with the Nats GM for a few days now, but that could also be regarding Lowe.

Sabathia is going to get an offer from the Giants soon, but it will be in the $100 million dollar range. We'll see if CC listens to his wife or the union.

There is a real strong possibility that the Yanks get none of the big 3 pitchers or Tex. Manny would be a knee jerk signing to try and save face.

    We shall see.

Signing Manny is hardly a save face move. He would bat 4th and A-Rod would move to 3rd, where I'd rather him be. Manny would play right field too.
Nady - Damon - Manny from left to right.

Unless the Yankees trade for Brandon Webb and pitch him every game, that defense would be a disaster.

C'mon. Manny is deffinetly a save face move, you can't deny that.
He is barely a blip on the Yankee radar at this point.

Why do you think Manny is so willing to let players like Tex and CC sign before him? Because he knows that's when he can seriously cash in; when a team like the Yankees needs an impact signing and has money to burn.

And for the record, Manny would more likely still play left, as that is his preferred position and Manny gets what Manny wants.

I see everybody is finally starting to see what I have been saying all along about how risky Sabathia is...lol..I didn't realize that fat slob is 290 pounds..second in MLB history.

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8882430/Teixeira-or-CC?-This-one-is-easy-to-call

"This speaks to a larger point: hitters are, generally speaking, more projectable and more valuable than starting pitchers. As great as Sabathia has been and as great as he's likely to be in the near term, his physicality and the unpredictable nature of pitching raise serious concerns, at least when talking about a deal that runs six-plus years. Teixeira, meanwhile, provides more certainty. And if his 2008 season is any guide, he's going to be one of the 15 most valuable players in the game over the next half decade. That's why Teixeira, and not Sabathia, is this winter's top free agent talent."

Only a fool can't see it. Seems we have more than a few here. Of course, the biggest fool of all will probably up the offer by 20 or 30 million this weekend.

That dosen't help your "point" at all.

It speaks the obvious truth, which no one has denied. Teix is a better investment, in that he is an everyday impact player who can potentially win you every game, while Sabathia is an impact player who can potentially win you every 5th game.

And who is this everybody? It's one writer, who only dabbled at the subject.

Manny also has to start wrapping his head around the notion that a 6-year contract for a 36 year-old player with a history of going off the reservation is cuckoobananas. What the Dodgers are rumored to have offered - 3 years / $75 million or 2 years / $50 million - sounds about right. Someone will pay him the money he wants; but the real question is whether anyone will give him the YEARS he wants. Frankly, I'd hate to see Manny as a Yankee, but I'd hate it less if they gave him a 5 year deal. I don't think anyone on the planet would ever offer 6 years.

Agreed. Manny is getting fed all this nonsense from Boras, so he has no idea what his true value is. He should end up in the area of $23-$26 million a year, depending on years/options/bonuses.

I think the Manny situation will end similar to the Beckett one, whoever bites on the guarenteed years, will win.

Right on Don. I think I posted about a month or so ago that CC is only a cheeseburger or ice cream cone from 300 lbs. ONLY the Yankees would pay 140 million PLUS for FIVE YEARS for a 300 lb pitcher.

Bill James wrote all about defenses. The difference in defense percentages in MLB players is so minuscule it doesn't even matter.

    Manny knows? Or Boras knows?

EVERYONE is waiting for CC to sign so they can cash in...

Dude, please. No one is going to even begin to think about the possibility of taking you seriously if you can't even take the time to answer a simple frikkin' question:

Using your "logic" about how bad it is to offer lengthy contracts to any pitcher, why was it then (in your opinion) such a mistake to pass on Santana, as you've stated so many times? Hmm? Can you even begin to explain that one?

The Yanks would have been shelling out the same amount of money over the same time period AND giving up at least one top prospect.

Face it. You can't even defend your own arguments. There are two possibilities as far as I can see:

One... you saw that Cashman liked Santana. You don't like Cashman, so you had to not like Sabathia. You voiced this opinion without knowing what you were talking about. Then, having voiced your dislike for Sabathia, you then tried to find reasons to support it after the fact. This has forced you to grasp at straws and willfully ignore the refutations of others, since it is clear that - even if the reasons for your dislike weren't irrational (but they are) - they are completely inconsistent with other beliefs you hold about what a smart baseball transaction consists of. They don't stand up to the slightest scrutiny.

I really hope that's the reason. It's at least understandable. People have a hard time seeing past their personal biases all the time. You don't like Cashman, and so anything he does or wants to do is something you see as the wrong move. Fine.

But if that's not the reason, then I feel sorry for you, because that just points to possibility #2: That you really are incapable of understanding simple rules of logic.

Basically, is it stubbornness or stupidity?

No, not everyone is waiting for CC to sign. Beckett is set to sign soon. Lowe is fielding offers. Lots of B levels have signed.

Burnett? He may sign because the Braves offered 4 + 1 if he meets a certain amount of innings pitched. Plus, his deal is worth around 16 mil a year, which is what they were looking for in the first place. AND if he signs with the Braves, the Yankee fans saying they would be crazy to offer him 4 years were right, the Yanks offered less than that.

The others don't want to sign because teams are low balling them. K-Rod is a good example of this, no one will give him what he is looking for, otherwise he would have signed already...I mean aren't we stating the obvious here?

No one wants to give FROD what he is looking for, because he valued himself far too high because of the saves record.

This all goes back to the same argument devil used previously. Teams are going to pay, what teams are going to pay. There is really only 1 player who could potentially milk a team, and that's Manny to the Yankees.

Yes. This is exactly my point and apply it to everyone. Everyone has over valued their worth, that's why teams have made low bids.
